World Class Bluesmen orbits in to Nighttown with his Swingingand Soulful 8 Piece Band with Full Horn Section!Travis Haddix began playing the piano at the age of seven in his home town ofWalnut, Mississippi, located thirty miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. The turningpoint in his musical learning experience came when he was eight, when thelegendary B.B. King came to Memphis and began playing daily at the studios ofWDIA. Travis was awed by King;s guitar virtuosity and he hung around the radiostation every day to learn all he could. Soon, Travis' piano playing fell by thewayside and was replaced by the guitar, which he plays on stage and in the studio.

Years later, the Haddix family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Travis, now abudding star, continued to refine his craft by singing and playing throughout theNorth. The original "Moonchild", he earned the nickname from his beamingpresence on stage and his always broad smile and energetic, sexy performances,In 1959, Travis moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he joined the D.L. Rocco Band andachieved regional notoriety that led to a prominent spot with the Little JohnnieTaylor group. Travis also contributed material to five albums by Artie "Bluesboy"White. His material is also covered by Artie “blues boy” White, Dickie Williams,Jimmy Dawkins, Michael Burks, Charles Wilson, the late Son Seals, and Lee ShotWilliams.

Haddix has received rave reviews in Living Blues Magazine, Blues Revue, RealBlues, Big City, Jefferson and Audience Magazine, and he has toured Europe since1992. His style evokes the sounds of the great Stax-Volt days, when the likes ofSam & Dave ruled the urban blues roost. His fifth release on Ichiban Records is ABig Ole Goodun', featuring the Travis Haddix band (together since 1988). Heproves, once again, that he is a fixture in the modern blues industry with songs like."Make Me Say Please" , "From Bad to Worse", and the made-for-jukebox single, "(She Called Me) Knucklehead".

Travis received 4 awards in 1999. Best Male Blues Artist, Best New Blues Artist,Best Blues Entertainer and Contemporary Blues Artist Of The Year. In 1989 hefounded Haddix publishing Company and Wann-Sonn Records, and recorded tenCDs under his own label. in 2007 travis won the Gay Rose Production Keeping theBlues Alive Award.

Next time you have a chance, check out the movie April's Fool which featuresTravis' hit song, Everything Is Everything.

In 2007, Travis' single, "Dick for Dinner" from "Mean Ole Yesterday" was nominatedBest Blues Song by the Blues Critic Awards 2007 Readers Poll-ComtemporaryBlues. Travis was in great company; the prize was awarded to Omar Kent Dykes &Jimmie Vaughan.

Dynamic straight ahead jazz when NYC guitarist and Cleveland Native returnsfor hometown gig.

“one of the finest straight-ahead jazz guitarists on the current NYC jazz scene.”- Robert Silverstein, MWE3.com

From his fresh interpretations of jazz standards, to his lyrically evocative originals,Brooklyn-based guitarist Rick Stone is an artist with a clear musical vision. Hisfluid, full-bodied sound pays homage to the great jazz masters of the past whilemaintaining a personal style with a contemporary edge.

Rick is a respected teacher at Jazzmobile, BCM, Hofstra and other. His trioperforms regularly at the Garage, the Bar Next Door and other NYC venues. In2010 and 2011 he toured Italy extensively as a guest artist and clinician.

Rick’s latest CD Fractals (2011) features his working trio with bassist MarcoPanascia and drummer Tom Pollard. Says Tim Fischer in Just Jazz Guitar “Stonecomes across as a solid bebop guitarist, updating his harmonic and melodiclanguage to include the developments of the younger generation of New Yorkguitarists. Odd-time modifications to standards, wide-interval exercises, and exoticmodal intros are just a few of the more modern devices Stone explores throughoutthe album.”

Rick Stone began playing guitar at age nine in his hometown of Cleveland. Hedeveloped an early affinity for the blues, but it was in the mid-seventies that hispassion for jazz was sparked after hearing a live performance of saxophonistSonny Stitt. His musical quest led him to Berklee College of Music and then on toNew York where he found a fertile and stimulating environment in Barry Harris’Jazz Cultural Theatre. While studying with the legendary pianist, Rick honed hiscraft sitting in alongside veteran players like Tommy Flanagan, Lionel Hampton,Clarence “C” Sharpe, and Junior Cook. Then, under the tutelage of jazz mastersJimmy Heath, Ted Dunbar, Donald Byrd, Tony Purrone and Hal Galper, he earnedhis M.A. at Queens College.

Soon Rick was developing a reputation in his own right, leading all-star groups withmusicians like Kenny Barron, Eric Alexander, Vernel Fournier, Richard Wyands,Ralph Lalama, Dennis Irwin and Billy Hart in performances at Carnegie Hall’s WeillRecital Hall, The Smithsonian Institution, The Blue Note and Birdland. STANLEY JORDAN$20.00 Friday 8/21 8:00 pm Buy Tickets 10:00 pm Buy Tickets

Mack Avenue recording artist and Virtuoso Solo Guitarist back at Nighttown fora great Friday night!

In a career that took flight with immediate commercial success and criticalacclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonicmusical persona of openness, imagination, versatility and maverick daring. Be itbold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, to blazing straight ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisationalworks—solo or with a group—Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners onbreathless journeys into the unexpected.

Key to Jordan’s fast-track acclaim was his mastery of a special technique on theguitar’s fretboard. Instead of conventional strumming and picking, Jordan'sinnovative "touch technique" is an advanced form of two-handed tapping. While ahandful of other players were using similar techniques, Stanley’s fluid, multi-layered textures and sheer virtuosity raised the bar for excellence.

But his technique, though impressive, is always a means to a musical end. Hismusic is imbued with a warmth and sensitivity that has captured the imagination oflisteners worldwide. A classically trained pianist before playing guitar, Jordanwanted greater freedom in voicing chords on his guitar, so he applied pianoprinciples to do so. Jordan's touch technique allows the guitarist to play melodyand chords simultaneously with an unprecedented level of independence. It alsoallows Jordan to play simultaneously on two different guitars, or even on guitar andpiano. He says that “I think of it as a single instrument, but one with a wide range oftonal colors—that’s why I do it.”

To date Jordan has performed in over 60 countries on 6 continents. He hasperformed at many festivals, including the Kool Jazz Festival, the Concord JazzFestival, and the Montreaux International Jazz Festival. During the 1980s hecollaborated with a diverse array of artists, including performances with Art Blakeyand Richie Cole and recordings with Stanley Clarke and Kenny Rogers. T

Jordan has received four Grammy nominations. His most recent album "Friends"was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Jordan came to prominence with the release of his 1985 album Magic Touch, arevolutionary project that placed him at the forefront of re-launching legendaryBlue Note Records into a contemporary entity in jazz and beyond, as alsoestablished the then-twenty-something Jordan as among the most distinctive andrefreshing new voices of the electric guitar.

In 2007 Jordan signed with Mack Avenue Records and released State of Nature in2008 and Friends in 2011. For Friends, he invited musical guests includingguitarists Bucky Pizzarelli, Mike Stern, Russell Malone and Charlie Hunter; violinistRegina Carter; saxophonists Kenny Garrett and Ronnie Laws; trumpeter NicholasPayton; bassists Christian McBride and Charnett Moffett; and drummer KenwoodDennard.

Jordan has maintained an extensive and consistent international touring schedule. In between tour stops he is now at work on his next highly anticipated album fromMack Avenue Records, for release next year.

Featuring: John Pizzarelli-vocals and guitar, Martin Pizzarelli-acoustic bass,Konrad Paszkudzki-piano, & Kevin Kanner-drums.

John Pizzarelli has cultivated a winning career by singing classic standards andlate-night ballads, and by playing sublime and inventive guitar. Using greats likeNat "King" Cole and Frank Sinatra, and the songs of writers like Sammy Cahn andJimmy Van Heusen as touchstones, Pizzarelli is among the prime revivalists of thegreat American songbook, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliantguitar playing. Born on April 6, 1960, in Paterson, New Jersey, Pizzarelli has been playing guitarsince age six, following in the tradition of his father, guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli. Hanging out with his father, John was exposed to all the great jazz music of the era, from Erroll Garner and Les Paul to Django Reinhardt. At 20, he began playing with

from Erroll Garner and Les Paul to Django Reinhardt. At 20, he began playing withhis father, then went out on his own. Since 1992, the John Pizzarelli Trio has touredextensively. In 1993, they received the honor of opening tour dates for FrankSinatra and joined in the celebration for Sinatra's 80th birthday at Carnegie Hall.

John Pizzarelli's voice has continued to develop with time, displaying both charmand humor. He has recorded as a leader for Chesky, Stash, Novus and RCA, and in1997 appeared in Dream, a Broadway production of Johnny Mercer songs. Along the way, Pizzarelli has earned rave reviews. "The John Pizzarelli Trio hasnever been tighter, and Pizzarelli himself has never been looser," the Village Voicesaid of a 1998 New York show. "We can say we're as lucky to listen to (Pizzarelli) asNat Cole fans were in the years before he became a legend." Pizzarelli was alsonamed "Jazz Vocalist of the Year" by Swing Journal in their 1999 Readers Poll. Telarc records of Cleveland signed Pizzarelli at the end of 1999 and has had twelvehighly acclaimed and successful albums on the label to date. Double ExposurePizzarelli’s latest album, Double Exposure, focuses on two distinctstyles to make a single fine recording. Set for release on May 15, 2012, DoubleExposure is a collection of tunes by some of the great pop songwriters of his owngeneration that are framed squarely within traditional jazz arrangements.

Pizzarelli appears on several tracks on Paul McCartney’s 2012 album, Kisses on theBottom. He performed with Sir Paul at an iTunes concert at Capitol RecordsJohnPizzarelli2 Studios and the two also performed together at the GRAMMY® Awardsin Los Angeles.
