Gain a world of experience & build a global vision for social change through World Bridges. Join us this summer for our Leadership Exchange Program in Ecuador! World Bridges (www.world-bridges.org ) offers international volunteer experiences and training for young adults of color from low-income backgrounds. Centered on principles of participatory education and social justice, the World Bridges Leadership Exchange Program (LEX) is specifically aimed at those who have limited or no international travel experience. It integrates volunteer work, leadership development and global learning with training in cross-cultural cooperation and conscious international travel. World Bridges provides up to 75% of program costs, including training, international travel, basic travel insurance, and volunteer opportunities through our international partner organizations.  The program fee in 2011 is $2400. Participants are responsible for: Participants are responsible for a minimum of 25% of program fees, personal spending money; obtaining and paying for a passport and any required visas; local transportation to meetings in the Bay Area; and attendance at all scheduled meetings and events. We provide participant fundraising training and opportunities. In addition, the LEX team is required to attend and help facilitate a year- end event for World Bridges highlighting the LEX experience. This event will be held in the fall in the Bay Area (date and time TBA). Program duration is from May 1- September 1 st . LEX commences with an orientation meeting on Monday, May 2 at 6pm. We meet every other week (evenings and weekends, in consideration of participant schedules) from May through July. From July 29-August 16 (dates subject to change), the entire LEX team will go to Ecuador, one of the most fascinating nations in South America. The international program will involve cultural immersion, volunteer and/or community work, and ongoing training and team-building. There will some days set aside for rest and leisure activities. Application Deadline Monday, April 4 nd 2011 (received by midnight). Interviews will be conducted evenings between April 6-15. Participants will be notified of acceptance by April 18. To be eligible for the program, you must: • Be a US citizen or US Permanent Resident • Be a young person of color, age 18-30 • Be a Bay Area resident through 2012 • Be able to attend every program training and meeting • Be able to demonstrate financial need • Have no or limited international travel experience (exceptions made for applicants able to pay full program fee • Have a strong desire to learn about different cultures & communities at home & abroad • Be very self-motivated & reliable • Demonstrate prior involvement in serving a community/volunteer work • Be willing and able to share your experience with other organizations & individuals You can learn more about what we do at www.world-bridges.org TO APPLY: Complete the application and return it to us so that we receive it by Monday, April 4, 2011 (by midnight ).
