IntroductionHow This Book Will Help YouThis book was put together so that you can figure out if a tiny house workshop is right for you. And if so, show you the options on where and how you can attend one.

When you’re done reading you’ll know who’s who in the tiny house world as well as your options in regards to gaining the confidence and knowledge to start and finish your tiny or small house project.

Why a tiny house workshop?

These construction workshops are designed for people like you and me, who love the idea of a house that demands very little from us.

For me, simple living has become a way for me to make a transition into a more quality based lifestyle while reducing the number of items I own and maintain.

The goal is to keep what you love and find another home for the rest. This way your time, money, and energy are readily available for whatever you want to accomplish or create within your life.

A tiny house, or just a simpler life, as a foundation for your future?

Without a shelter and food, what is man or a woman? How can one evolve without a proper shelter and nutrition?

Little homes along with technology are changing the way we think of home by making smaller spaces more doable than ever before.

So let’s do our part to make tiny homes and technologies easily available for those who want them.

Thank you for your interest in a better world,

Alex PinoTinyHouseTalk.com

Why Go To a Tiny House Workshop? There are many reasons to hit up a tiny house workshop if you’re interested in building or living in a tiny home sometime.

To Meet Like Minded People

Where else can you meet with 20 or more other people who are also passionate about little homes?

This part turns out to be way more fun than you think! Just go in wanting to meet people and you’ll have even more fun.

To Get Comfortable with Home Building

Some people already have construction experience but some of us don’t. Going to a tiny house workshop is a great way to start becoming familiar with home building.

Even if you start by attending a Tumbleweed lecture weekend workshop you’ll learn a lot if you’re a complete beginner.

And again you’ll get to meet some great people along the way.

To Learn How to Design and Read Plans

If you’ve ever wanted to draw up your own floor plans or learn how to read construction plans this is a great environment to learn in.

To Gain Construction Experience

Some workshops offer hands on experience with building! This is great because you’ll get to become comfortable using power tools in this environment which will leave you feeling more confident about building.

To Learn Tricks of the Trade

Some of us aren’t fortunate enough to have friends or family teach us the most important rules for home building and carpentry.

Especially when it comes to building tiny and on wheels.

Workshop teachers have spent years building and remodeling so they’ll show you those little tricks that make a big difference.

To Possibly Tour a Real Tiny House

Not all workshops offer a real tour of a tiny house, but some certainly do.

And in these cases you’ll get to experience what it’s like to be inside of a real tiny house on wheels. This helps if you’re wondering whether or not this would work for you or not.

To Meet Your Favorite Tiny House Enthusiast

Have you always wanted to meet Dee Williams, Jay Shafer, Derek Diedricksen, or Dan Louche?

Going to a workshop is a great opportunity to hang out, design, and maybe even build with one of them. Here are some of my photos from going to a few workshops:

Tiny House TeachersJay ShaferAs you probably already know, Jay Shafer has been living in his own self created little homes since 1997.

He is founder of Four Lights Houses, a company that offers tiny house enthusiasts books, plans, workshops, and completed homes.

Jay’s homes have been featured on “The New York Times”, “CNN”, and “Oprah”.

Today he spends most of his professional time creating new designs and teaching others how to build their own simple homes.

Dee WilliamsDee Williams has been living her custom designed Tumbleweed tiny house since 2004.

Using mostly reclaimed materials, she was able to build it for just $10,000.

Today Dee helps other people get started by hosting beginner construction workshops.

She has appeared in “Yes Magazine”, “TIME”, and has spoke about simple living at “TED”.

Dee is also co-founder of Portland Alternative Dwellings.

She has her own how-to manual called Go House Go and offers two sets of building plans.

Derek DiedricksenDerek Diedricksen has been building micro houses in his backyard since 2007.

He also plays in a Rage Against the Machine tribute band, hosts and directs Tiny Yellow House on YouTube, and is the author of Humble Homes, Simple Shacks...

Derek is experienced in utilizing unwanted, reclaimed materials in his micro shelters and has built several for less than $1,000 each.

He has been featured in the “New York Times”, “PBS”, “NPR”, and “ABC”.

Deek will show you how to save money with reclaimed materials while answering your questions on building a tiny home.

Dan LoucheIn 2009 Dan Louche designed and built his first tiny house when his mother was in need of a new home.

Soon people were requesting to use the plans he developed to build the house. Dan also put together a detailed step by step book, Tiny House Construction Guide.

His company, Tiny Home Builders, is family owned and offers people interested in their own little houses a guide, plans, custom homes, and a build along which is equivalent to an Internet-based building workshop.
