INTRODUCTION

PURPOSE

PEDAGOGY

The success of every business lies in effective financial decision making. Financial analysis as a tool for decision making has been used by industry practitioners across the world. The availability of large amount of data along with the changes in technology has necessitated Excel integration in to financial analysis. At present, most of the educational institutes in India teach financial analysis using traditional 'Pen & Paper' model while the industry practices the analysis using Excel. Thus there exists a gap between what is offered in educational institutes and what is practiced in the industry as Financial Analysis. With a view to bridge the gap, CIML organizes this workshop on Excel Based Financial Analysis.

The workshop aims to introduce excel integration in to the methods of financial analysis. The two day workshop will start with introducing to the participants with the basic excel requirements in order to do Financial Analysis. By the end of the workshop, the participants are expected to create their own financial model for Valuation of Companies using Discounted Cash Flow technique

Each session will be led by resource person(s) who will quickly review the theoretical concepts before proceeding with the excel applications for the same. The sessions will be completely Excel driven and will be practically rigorous. Participants are supposed to bring their laptops and are expected to complete the individual / group tasks assigned to them during the sessions.

Each group is given a stock of a particular sector. They would be building a financial model from scratch, forecast the models, do validations, identify the right valuation approach and arrive at the valuation of the stock.

Each group will present the models they constructed. They will justify their assumptions and approach to the entire class

TARGET AUDIENCEThe participants are expected to be thorough with the basic concepts of Financial Management and Financial Statement Analysis. Familiarity with basic excel though expected is not mandatory. The participants can be academicians, research scholars, industry practitioners as well as students aspiring to have a career in finance.

Prior to starting his own firm he worked in Citi Bank, Ocwen and Atom Funds Management (Australia).He is a Board member representing Asia for Finance and Investment Board of Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK. He is involved with in various regulatory boards overlooking policies and frameworks. He was the Vice Chair for the recently conducted IFoA Asia Conference 2016 in Kuala Lumpur and Upcoming IFoA Asia conference 2017 in Hongkong. He is also the Mathematical Advisor in Scientific Review Committee, a National level Committee set up by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Intel to promote innovation in Basic Science and Maths. He was the Regional Co-ordinator for ASEAN Countries and Bangladesh during Indian Science Congress 2014. He is the President of Christ University Institute of Management Alumni Association, Board Member of Actuarial Consulting Congress of Asia and also is an Advisor for Karnataka RajyaVigyanParishad (KRVP)

Prof. Soumya is an Assistant Professor and Head of Finance Specialization in Christ Institute of Management, Lavasa. She is an associate member of Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (UK) and has 17 years of teaching experience. She is a post graduate in Commerce as well as Management and has completed ICWAI (Inter). Her teaching and research interests include Financial and Management Accounting, Financial Management, Financial Analysis and Taxation.
