Workshop on Domestic Solid Waste Management Theme: Don’t Trash Your Environment! About the Workshop This UMCCed Workshop with practical training session, held in collaboration with GPAM and ZESB, aims to provide participants the “Learn & Do” in limiting domestic solid waste for final disposal. A solid waste stream dominated by organic waste and inorganic materials will create environmental hazards and a source separation must be carried out: a) inorganic for recycling; b) organics for composting; and c) other hazardous waste for safe treatment and disposal and that all these waste are to be diverted from landfills. Benefits of the Workshop The goals of this Workshop are: a) to provide awareness that domestic solid waste problems are contributed by the consumers’ attitudes and actions; b) to disseminate the four-step approach to domestic solid waste management: recover, reduce, reuse and recycle; c) to show-case ways where consumers can play major roles in reducing domestic solid waste problems; and d) to provide a platform for networking among multi-stakeholders for latest information exchange and technology updates on domestic solid waste management.
