WORKSHOP FOUR
Prototyping + Dialogue = Features
WORKSHOPOVERVIEW
WHAT ARE INTERESTING OR USEFUL FEATURES THAT CAN BE INCORPORATED INTO THE PLATFORM?
GOALS+ find unexpected connections between possible participants
and their purpose for using the platform+ to suggest possible/novel platform features and functions
METHODSPrototyping
DESCRIPTIONWorkshop Four requires rapid-fire ideation and creation. From three buckets you will choose “who,” “what,” and “how” to suggest a hypothetical context. Then you’ll design an abstracted tool that supports possible interactions within that context. Afterward, you will have the chance to present your tool and discuss it with other participants.
VIRTUAL + PHYSICAL
The remainder of this slideshow demonstrates what physical participants will be completing at the Proposium event.
As a virtual participant you will be following similar steps for participation, but will be using other means- such as a web cam- to accomplish it.
Read the annotations found at the bottom left hand side, shown through the yellow plus icon:
This will give you a sense of how your virtual participation will work in relation to the physical participant.

STEP 1: CHOOSE THREE PHRASES: ONE FROM EACH OF THE BUCKETS PROVIDED (5 min)
WORKSHOP 4: READY, SET, DESIGN!
STEP 2: THE THREE PHRASES SHOULD SUGGEST A CONTEXT TO CREATE A DESIGN TOOL (20 min)
we use the materials gathered (structures, surfaces, and fasteners) to create one design artifact
Virtual participants record themselves via webcam, name the phrases, show the tool, explain how its features can inform possible features of the graduate network platform. Video should be 1–2 minutes long.
