I Am Afraid
My name is Jane and I am afraid. I am afraid of dogs. I am afraid of cats. I am afraid of birds. I am afraid of rabbits too. Wait, that’s not all. I am afraid of pirates. I am afraid of trains. I am afraid of sailors. I am afraid of boats. But most of all I am afraid of monsters. I am afraid of monsters with big eyes, and one big nose, five white teeth, and three legs. They are purple and blue and very ugly. What can I do?
Father says: “Close your eyes.“ Mother says: “Sing a song.“ Grandfather says: “Play music.“ Grandmother says: “Eat ice cream.“ My teacher says: “Draw a picture.“ My best friend Kim says: „“When I am afraid, I close my eyes and think. I think of nice things – music, the sea, flowers and basketball games. When I open my eyes, I’m smiling and I’m not afraid anymore. I can do anything.“
I can do that. Thank you, Kim.
