Workplace Health & Safety

The Workplace Health & Safety Program has been

developed to ensure compliance with relevant

legislation and to also meet the needs of each of our

facilities.

So how do we as Health Care Facilities ensure

compliance with Legislation?

Page 5: Workplace Health and Safety - Microsoftmel0207lsprod.blob.core.windows.net/uploads/mercycq... · Workplace Health & Safety As an employee you are obliged to: To ensure their own health

Workplace Health & Safety

We do that by adhering to the Workplace Health &

Safety Act 2011 and Regulations 2011 and the

various Codes of Practice.

National Harmonisation Laws came into practice from

the 01/01/2012 where Australia has been working

toward ALL states and Territories having the same

OH&S laws. Where possible these will remain exactly

the same all around Australia

The objective is to minimise problems with trying to

comply with nine different sets of laws

Workplace Health & Safety

The ACT is the umbrella or the big picture

The REGULATION is more detail with laws

The CODES OF PRACTICE give specific guidance

eg First Aid Code of Practice

AND

The STANDARDS provide guidance documents and

support

This program is available through the Intranet on the

Applications tab with the following icon. The user clicks on

the icon which directs you to the program you then type in

the chemical name and press enter, the program will then

Chemical & Hazardous

Substances Management

The WH&S Department conducts risk assessments

on hazardous substances. The WH&S Department

must be notified of any chemicals that are required to

be brought into the facilities for whatever reason i.e.

trial similar product etc, this is imperative to ensure we

are meeting our obligations and not putting staff and

patients and visitors at risk of an exposure.

Staff are not to bring in their own substances and use

them

reported to your Supervisor/Manager and you must log a report on the
