Aging Backwards Escapades

Lip ServiceAs the “anti-aging petri dish,” I like to try all thelatest products and innovations so I can tell everyonewhat works and what doesnʼt. People always send meproducts for review and I try to be fair and at least testthem out. I once received a box of lip plumpers thatsat in my kitchen for a while, so out of guilt or curiosity,I decided to try the product one morning rightbefore my weekly radio show on Mix 100.7 Nancy &Chris Mornings in Tampa Bay. I smoothed the plumper onto my lips as directed at about 6 a.m. and left for the radio station.By the time I arrived 30 minutes later, I couldnʼtfeel my tongue. My lips were plump, alright, but if Icanʼt feel my tongue I canʼt really say, “This is a greatproduct!”

At some point in the show, the brilliant andhilarious radio personality Nancy Alexander, and I gotto talking about this particular lip plumper on the air, commenting about the lack of feeling in my tongue. Itold everyone that I wouldnʼt say the name because Ifelt I could not endorse this product with the peculiarside effect. Within one minute, every phone line lit upand we continued to get calls begging for the nameof the product. We must have gotten dozens! Finally,to put a stop to all the calls, Nancy revealed the nameof the product, which sold for a whopping $35 for aquarter of an ounce! I prefer to plump my lips naturally with Cynthia Rowlandʼs Luscious Lips lip pump andkeep my tongue intact. (CynthiaRowland.com)

Fraud DoctorA friend and I decided to visit a California plasticsurgeon for a consultation. Another friend of oursrecommended him because, being out in Camarillo,he was much cheaper than a comparable BeverlyHills doctor. Plus, he didnʼt charge for consults. Wewerenʼt seriously considering having anything done,we just thought it would be a fun road trip from LosAngeles and an interesting experience. At the time,I was about 45 and she was 42, but she put down 37on the forms we filled out. We went in together, andshe was the first one in the chair.

He looked at her file, took a cursory look at her and told her she didnʼt need a thing. He said she was still young and perhaps a little Botox was all she needed.

Itʼs true, she didnʼt need anything, but if she had any area that wasbeginning to show her age it was her neck, which is usually the first place to show age for many people.

I was next in the chair. The doctor looked at my chart and launched into a discourse that almost rivaled Lincolnʼs Gettysburg Address about how he could give me a necklift and get rid of “all this,” as he gestured under hischin.

Whatʼs amazing about this is I had already had aneck lift at age 38, and my neck has been comparedto that of a teenager by some of the doctors I know.My friend and I were both in such shock that we wererendered speechless. We walked out of the doctorʼsoffice and to this day we laugh about the fraud doctorwho wanted to give me a neck lift with my teenageneck. So, watch out for anti-aging “specialists” whojust want to take your money and arenʼt really goingto do anything for you.

Aging Backwards Expert Opinion

How old are you now? Uh, uh. Notso fast. If your first impulse wasto tell me how many years it hasbeen since you were born, stop

right there. There could be a hugedifference between your chronological

age and your biologicalage. And you have control over

that difference.

— David A. Kekich,Maximum Life Foundation

“Use this space to write down details of how your chronological age may differ from your biological age:

Example: “My doctor told me that smoking is not only bad for my health but that it is also aging me.”
