This year, 12 outstanding senior award recipients, plus Keri Weinman our first graduate from the 3 Plus 2 Program with the Bush School, were recognized for their accomplishments at the luncheon which included invited family, staff, and faculty members. The students are shown in the accompanying photograph (front row; Keri Weinman, Chelsey Villareal, Maggie Branch, Elaine Lochte, Ashley Wilde, back row; Blane Counsil, Maggie Madden, Jessica Santos, Shelbi Greaves, Jason Edmondson, Tennyson Hull, Kiara Jaraczewski, Randee Williams-Koeller). These seniors have accomplished a tremendous amount in their time as students in our department. The guest speaker for the event was one of our former students, Erasmus EddieTrevino ’88, the Executive Officer for the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA). Mr. Trevino provided inspiring presentation, encouraging the seniors to continue seeking engagement and to be prepared for the challenges and opportunities they will experience in the future. Congratulations to the senior award winners, and thank you to the Undergraduate Office, Dr. Fred Boadu, Donna Chester, Donna Adcock, Amy Connolly, and Hannah Chavarria for coordinating such a nice event. International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education On Monday, I had the opportunity to meet with three members of the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE). Dr. John Nichols, Professor Emeritus and Former Department Head here in agricultural eco- nomics, currently serves as Chairman of the Board of ICARE, Dr. Armen Asatryan ‘04, a current member of the Board of Directors of ICARE, and Dr. Arthur Grigoryan , the current director of the ICARE program at the Armenian Nation- al Agrarian University. We had an interesting discussion about the ICARE, current efforts, and some future ideas/ opportunities. Seminar Speaker On Friday, the agricultural economics seminar committee will have Dr. Robert Donovan , owner of Proximity Farms, here in the Department to present a seminar on Thermodynamics of the $4.7 Trillion Dollar Logistics, Distribution, and Transportation Industry with a Focus on Food, Water, Chemistry, Physics, and Medicine with a Relationship to Cost Expenditures, Profits, Injuries, and Overall Health Functions”. The seminar will take place from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. in AGLS room 129. Dr. Donovan will be meeting with several faculty and students during the day. He will also be attending Friday coffee at 10:00 a.m. if you have a chance to stop by and say hello. I hope you all have a great weekend.
