student I want the student to feel that they can learn. In

foundational courses some students feel that they can’t. Cross-training across areas - so all staff/faculty can problem

solve and help students. I believe any efforts, be they large or small, that make

students feel part of the academic community, make them feel special and privileged, will go even further to promote student success.

We need to develop new ways to engage students in their success and eliminate failure syndrome… Encourage and develop professors in using new approaches…

need The College is [a] conduit for students … giving them the

skills and proficiencies that they need to be successful as they move forward.

We offer diverse programs to meet the needs of the diverse population of our city.

To understand our students' experiences… people need to interact with students as they navigate our systems or take classes or use our other services.

…Get a better understanding of what students need versus want, [and] ensure that the policies, programs, etc. are reflective of the data.

success I define student success as the achievement of student

goals, whatever they may be. If a student comes to CCP for a degree and attains one, that is success. If a student comes to better his or her command of the language, that is success. Within the classroom, every positive step toward that goal is a success.

…We have departments like the Center for Male Engagement, Student Success Initiatives, and other leadership programs (cohorts) that are very successful.

…Make sure we have a clear guideline of what fostering student success will look like on the College level.

faculty I think faculty need more opportunities to work on

scholarly projects and attend[ing] more conferences in their respective fields.

We have quite a few admins, faculty and staff who take a personal vested interest in students...

More collaboration between administration and faculty.

Increase research by faculty and students. Provide training, such as a Research Institute for interested faculty or more FCTL programs about research and grants. RETURN TO

college Our students are not traditional college students. We offer foundational courses to prepare students to

succeed in college-level courses and professional tutoring and counseling to support all students.

What do students need? Look at other urban community colleges.

…make our students feel part of an elite group – college students.

[Students] don't understand college culture.RETURN TO

communication Having more open lines of communication in the

classroom with students. Due to a breakdown in communication between

departments, students aren't getting… how to use resources.

Starfish Connect… is helpful for communication with students and may improve grades and lower attrition.

Communication across the board is a problem. Problems are not directed correctly.

We need to work better together and communicate better. RETURN TO

support Many students don't have a lot of support system. Better communication and training for administrators

and faculty in supporting international students. More financial support is needed. Programs like Single

Stop are helpful but a drop in a bucket. FYE are necessary to provide students who do not have

family or community support. [CCP has] strong supports for various needs…

service Improved and more strategic approaches to promote services.

Make customer service a meaningful part of performance reviews.

Centralized or better aligning supportive services on campus.

I believe we might explore [Northeast] area community service options which might attract students as well as fulfill some course assignments.

campus Recent changes to campus to make friendlier, create

commons, more ‘college like’. If you do not attend class at the main campus you do not get

to experience the possibilities available from the college. [CCP offers] many campuses [that are] strategically located. More curriculum at all campuses. Need more services at regional campuses. The campus is not inviting once you enter the doors. [Students are] not able to navigate around the campus.

community Student success can also be thought of in terms of the

benefits to the community which gains more literate, knowledgeable citizens and a more skilled work force.

We are a beacon in the community and serve the community in a variety of ways.

The College has a spirit of community for those who need it or want it.

I believe any efforts, be they large or small, that make students feel part of the academic community, make them feel special and privileged, will go even further to promote student success.

training Develop partnerships with nonprofits for training. …Determine the needs of companies [and] develop training that satisfies the local demands…

Tension between training certificates and academic degrees existing because it is not clearly defined and understood.

We do not have an Ad campaign geared towards job training programs.

Use words like “career” rather than job training …Career has more of a continuum.

college Don't forget that employees at the College who may

benefit. Promote brand of College. Raise visibility and clarify

the value of the College. When it comes to the story of success at the college in

non-credit, I don’t think I can name any. The college should take a tiered approach to

educational offerings versus being all thing to all people. …We should play a convener role with other colleges to

help fill talent needs when attracting business!RETURN TO

need This needs to be an ongoing conversation. Job placement-we need to do more to place students in jobs. We need more emphasis on adult learning. There needs to be funding for people to take these courses. The definition of what WEI is doing needs to be clarified. Many see us as 13th grade or advanced HS – we need to

change that perception. Credit versus non-credit may be serving totally different types

of customers so we need to understand how to serve each.

job Analysis of what in 5 years will the impact be for jobs in

region. Programs that lead to jobs that pay more than what they

make now. Job placement-we need to do more to place students in jobs. The institutional barriers stem from reputational brand

challenges. How do we know that people actually get jobs? Promotion of the people who actually get jobs thereafter.

Staff/ Faculty are talented and do a great job here at the college but it is not highlighted to the public.

business In Northern Liberties, Fishtown there are lots of small businesses that need hires but need them to be trained.

Identify what is the hottest trend in the business world… Targeting small business, meeting their needs through

tuition Remission…can help create opportunities. Intro to CCP! At their place of business, let people know

who we are. Offer entrepreneurship courses to help people start businesses, and business management.

student We must understand that students don't understand

how to be a college student. All speaking same language (students too). [Track] student complaints, where students fall off the

path. Use existing governance structure to address issues and

increase communication/include students. MyCCP challenges – better orientation for students

around the tool, more student engagement and personalized connections.

college Expansion of an Adopt-a-school partnership that goes beyond

what currently exists at the College and engages the whole of the College community (faculty, administration, staff, students) addressing holistic needs of a school within the K-12 pipeline…

Remove unnecessary barriers which face external partners when attempting to engage the College and create more real opportunities to connect and collaborate

CCP can work with the larger community …to get students invested in pursuing their educations through advertising, open college days for parents and their children to tour a college campus.

World-Class Facilities

Page 25: Word cloud slideshow

student If we don't care about the school, why should students care

about the school. The facilities need to have enough support to keep students on

campus it doesn’t have to be fancy just a standard of service that expresses care and success.

Students need a college experience and should have a student union, lounges, clubs, performance areas, food/drink…nearby

Students need to know that they’re on a campus: Defined boundaries

Students have no place to gather that are not shared by other academic functions.

need CCP needs to recognize and strike [a] balance between

two types of students (Main Campus [appearing] “Campus‐like”)

Need center on disability: no place for students with disabilities to test

Campus lacks robust student life – need more social [and] non‐academic gathering spaces for students

Bathrooms need major overhaul I need the ability to join meetings remotely from NERC

to main [campus] RETURN TO FACILITIES

space Increasing communal spaces for faculty and students

would encourage more collegiality. There is not enough space for students to hold their

own council meeting. The World-class facility has a physical space to

communicate the mission and value of the facility and promote engaged citizenry - … we should have civic spaces.

Need for large event space (for transfer fairs, community festivals, etc.)

campus The presentation of the campus is paramount. The Viaduct is an unsightly edge of our campus. The furniture we use around campus does not support

“peer learning”. The CCP campus needs to be fully ADA compliant. Need for stronger link from CBI to rest of campus. Scheduled time between classes causes massive

bottlenecks, difficult for some students to get from one end of campus to another.

building We are doing a disservice to the history of the Mint building.

Our Student Life building clearly says students are not the priority. They need club space and charging stations throughout the campuses.

We may have great buildings but we are terrible with our maintenance.

Better Wi-Fi is needed throughout the buildings. Need better/simpler security system for accessing buildings -[example:] tap card access

classroom All classrooms should be “smart classrooms”. The classroom furniture is [of] mixed types [with] a sense of

“left overs”. For ideal learning environments, Active Learning Classrooms should be put in place at least enough of them to match industry standards…

The classrooms are very frustrating… you try to use something [and] it is in need of service. The students and faculty get frustrated.

More computerized classrooms with student work stations.

facility No fields [or] facilities for athletes. Clear ROI on improving facilities both in student

impression and employer/partner perception. CBI is a good example of a world-class facility. CCP is behind most colleges in its facilities & [the]

NWRC is behind all of [the] CCP campuses... The change for CCP to become a world-class facility

should be done with clearly defined and communicated goals and objectives, then steady regular progress.

student [Provide] online chat to recruit new students on the

Internet. [CCP] guest students need emails. Attract international students. Create new models of student success to increase student

college Review college policies [for opportunities to decrease

expenses]. Students want college “experience”. [To increase revenue] offer services to those outside College

(e.g. Printing/Duplicating and catering). Increase grant funding….empower people in other areas

within the College and leverage existing partnerships. Partner with other community colleges to work collectively in

developing a strategy to increase state funding. Market programs to increase public awareness of the College.
