  • Histor ical/Biographical Notes

    The first family member of the Tyler family mentioned in the collection is Job Tilor (Tyler), bomin 1620 and settled in Andover (deed refers to land near Town of Marlborough) and hisdescendants, notably the Rev. Albert Tyler, 1823-1912, of Oxford Mass. The collectioncomprises genealogical information of the Tyler family, as well as the Crane, Forrest, and otherfamihes related by marriage to the Tylers. Photographs, mostly daguerreotypes of Albert Tylerand his family, portray many of the family members during the period ca. 1850-1900.

    Insight into family interests are indicated by the scrapbooks of art, poetry, clippings, etc., and byan extensive postcard collection of Worcester and Worcester County, ca. 1900-1930.Scrapbooks include extensive family histories of the Tyler and Crane families. Additional familygenealogical information is inscribed in several bibles owned by family members.

    The Tyler family is very large. The concentration of this collection is primarily on the AlbertTyler family of Oxford and their descendants.

  • Scope and Content

    The collection consists of Tyler family records, photographs, ephemera, etc., given to WorcesterHistorical Museum under the provisions of the will of Clidstine Crane in 2000. Included are some60 postcards of Worcester and the region ca. 1900-1930, photographs (mostly daguerreotypesand tintypes) of family members, letters and memoranda relating to contents of the collection,commemorative covers including First Day of Issue cover of Clara Barton commemorative stampwith extra Clara Barton stamps. Also included are financial records of family members, ca. 1830sand 1870s; autograph books and diaries, ca. 1870s-1902; scrapbooks, including two scrapbooksof genealogical information; and miscellaneous records, including writings and sketches of AlbertH. Tyler, ca. 1880, memorial book at the death of Walter D. Tyler, 1945, deed to land fi^omMoses Tilor to Job Tilor situated near Marlborough, Mass., November 12, 1664. Publishedworks include bibles, early 19"' century, with genealogical information, early 19"* centuryschoolbooks, and other published works.

    The collection provides significant insight into the genealogy of the Tyler and related families, andactivities of the family from the 17* century to the early 20* century.
