November 2014
“ Success is walking from failure to
failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”
~Winston Churchill
W ow, I am shocked – every year at this time – by how quickly the weather has changed. It was not that long
ago Dale and I were sitting on our deck enjoying the sun and the sounds of the birds in the bushes and trees surrounding us; and now the deck is almost empty and the birds are scurrying, feeding for the upcoming winter.
I am thankful for this time of year, because it gives me the chance to reflect on what I have accomplished so far and what I have yet to do. This year I am also very thankful for the friendships I have because of you. To have such a fine group of diverse women to learn from and lean on is truly priceless.
Enjoy this very busy time of year with family and friends, and remember to take time for yourselves.
Cary Sue
November 17:
Meet Woodstock’s Own Expressly Leslie
November 2014 Page 2
WPBW Programs
L eslie didn’t know a thing about the food business—or any business, for that matter—when she began cook-
ing up her vegetarian specialties for the public. But she mastered the steep learning curve so well that Expressly Leslie on the Woodstock Square was recently named "Best Vegetarian Dining Experience" in McHenry County in the Northwest Herald Readers' Choice Awards. Leslie will describe her entrepreneurial journey at our November meeting, which she will also cater. Come and enjoy the colorful, flavorful and healthful delights of this exciting cuisine and hear her fascinating story.
Thank you to these members who have volunteered to bring the following:

Member Profile: Chrissy Blair
C hanging lives for the better has been Chrissy Blair’s goal ever since she was sixteen years old and working as an activity aid at a long-term care facility. “It made me realize how
much I enjoy being around the elderly, bringing smiles to their faces,” she recalls. “It was some-thing that changed their daily lives, and it caught my heart in a way I didn’t expect.” In college, however, the degree she pursued was a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. Her dream since she was young had been to work in the field of homicide and criminal justice, and after earning her degree, she took on a role with the Lake County Adult Probation Team. Six months later, she went back to helping the elderly. “I just haven't found the right opportunity yet to pursue criminal justice,” Chrissy says. “One day I would love to be an adult probation officer. But the last twelve years have prepared me for where I am today in the healthcare field.” For nearly three years she has been the Community Liaison at Crossroads Care Center of Woodstock, a skilled nursing and sub-acute rehab facility. She enjoys working together with resi-dents and their families to implement the best plan of care. Outside of the working world, she enjoys spending time outdoors, being with family and friends, doing adventurous things, and exploring what the world has to offer. She says that some places she would love to travel to are Australia, New Zealand, Italy, and Alaska. “As years go by, I know that I always want to stay in the field of helping others,” she says, “whether it’s to better their lives, to make an impact on the person, or to change the lives of others for a better future.”

WPBW Minutes
Meeting of October 20, 2014 — submitted by Chrissy Blair
T he meeting was opened at 6:00 p.m. by President Cary Sue Lavan. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by introduction of members and guests. In honor of the Halloween season, as everyone introduced
herself, she told the group what her favorite candy was. Rita Unzner became a new member; the group welcomed her and is excited she is part of WPBW. Rita has worked in the construction business for over 25 years, and enjoys every part of it. She also enjoys event planning, helping veterans, and is very involved in several committees. Welcome again Rita, we are glad you are part of the group and can’t wait to see what you can bring to the table with your years of experience.
Minutes The September minutes were approved by the membership, upon motion of Tricia McCoy and Sandra Pierce seconding.
Treasurer’s Report Phyllis went over the report. Sherry Thurow made the motion to approve the report. Second was made by Glenda Miller and the report was approved by the membership.
Committee Reports:
Garden Walk – We as a group discussed the Garden Walk, talked about the manpower needed, the costs and time it takes, as well as weather permitting, and decided as a group that we will put the Garden Walk on hold for 2015 upon motion of Shari and second by Tricia McCoy. As for the Mums Sale, we sold less this year than last. For next year’s mum sale we will be asking that everyone put in an hour of their time to help out, if able to.
Studio Art Tour —Turned out great this year and people really seemed to enjoy it. WPBW is excited to announce there will be another Art Walk in 2015. It will take place the second weekend of September. If anyone would like to help with the Art Walk please let Tricia or one of the other members know. Tricia would also like to order more signs for advertisement.
Discussions & Announcements:
If anyone would like to help with Christmas Clearing House you can sign up online. It will be November 28th, and November 29th. Thanks for all you ladies do. If at anytime during the year a group member would like to propose a budget for their fundraising group please submit it to Cary Sue and Phyllis for it to be reviewed and discussed. Members also signed up for being in charge of raffles prizes or to bring wine. Could we please have that mailed out? The next meeting will be Monday, November 17 at Home State Bank at 6:00PM.
