Dear Families
Today brings for the students, a close to Semester 1. I was extremely happy with the Student Chronicles and Semester Reports that went home on Tuesday. The students all made a genuine effort to progress in their learning.
This photo demonstrates that our students not only are successful in Literacy and Numeracy but also enjoy exercising their musical intelligence.
I am especially proud of our teachers who implemented the Australian English and Mathematics Curriculum this semester. It is a challenge to develop understandings of a totally new structure, implement the teaching and then assess student work against the new standards. All staff are going to build upon this knowledge during our Professional Development Day on Friday. We will discuss our new Curriculum Policy as well as develop our skills to adapt the Classroom into Classroom (C2C) materials next semester.
Staff changes for next term are:
Farewell Welcome Alicia Strong will commence Maternity Leave Carolyn Shields is returning Rebecca Garrigan who is moving to Rosebery Primary To be advised Dorothy Howell is on approved leave Juliet Phillips continuing Marnie Jackson will be relocating interstate Penny Luke Di Nowland is “moving on” Helene Sweatman
We wish all those not returning in Semester 2 all the very best.
Congratulations to Tempe Cotterill who will marry Mark Noonan over the holidays. On behalf of the school community we wish them every happiness.
I would also like to congratulate Kerry Vincent who won the Senior Teacher Early Childhood position. Thank you to Ms Garrigan for acting admirably in this role.
I wish all of our school community a very safe,
happy, restful holiday and look forward to the
students return on Tuesday 24th July. Staff will
return on Monday 23rd July when teachers will
discuss successful strategies on how to
engage all students in their program and to
further plan for the term.

Thank you to the following parents and friends for so generously volunteering their time to help out at our Sports Carnival: Nick Marsden, Rowena Kalikajaros, Mark Noonan, Donna Warner, Kim Stalas, Karen Deane, Cassandra Dale and Natasha Colley. Without your help the carnival would not have been such a success. On behalf of the year 6 students thanks also to Chrissy Woodbury, Carol King, Jo and Paul Dale, Annabell Luck, Fiona Heath and Sharon Roulston who cooked
and sold sausages on Sports Day. $480 was raised which will go towards the cost of their children’s graduation dinner later this year.
Last year the Palmerston City Council (PSC) hired a consultant to advise on the traffic flow around schools. I recently received a copy of the recommendations for Woodroffe. Please note that road works are expensive and that PSC is responsible for public roads and Woodroffe is accountable for any works on our land. Therefore this will be a long term project. However the School Council Chair, PSC and I agreed for the Kiss and Go to be constructed outside of the Preschool and for the signs to be erected in front of the school. The Kiss and Go is all day so parking immediately in front of the school will soon be illegal. I expect this work will start on Friday and be completed before school returns. I would like to remind families that you can park in the cricket oval car park and children can easily walk safely to the school. Sharon Reeves
