They had a great time and were very brave in trying lots of new activities and staying away from home. Huge thanks to the staff who accompanied and supported them. For out Harvest Festival celebrations this year, we have decided to do something a little different. We will be collecting donations for Exeter Foodbank but rather than collecting food, we are asking the children to bring in some coins. We have marked out a giant apple on the floor of the hall and are going to work together as a school to cover it in as many coins as possible. Please look around at home for any money boxes or copper collections which can help with this project and raise money for the foodbank. The children need to bring their coins in on Tuesday 12 October. EYFS: This week in the early years, we have been focusing on autumnal objects such as conkers, cones and leaves. In our ‘mini maths’, sessions we have been continuing making patterns with these objects. Can you notice and then describe the patterns that we made? Years 1 and 2: In Key Stage 1 this week, we have enjoyed playing our brand new Glockenspiels! We played our instruments during the instrumental part of the song ‘1,2,3,4,5’ and used the notes C, D, E, F and G. Years 3 and 4: This week in Year 3 and 4, we have started our focus on the Book of Bones, an extraordi- nary book about some record breaking animal skeletons that links to our science learning. We have been learning how to use compara- tive writing by using superlatives and similes to describe and compare the features of animals and their skeletons. We are aiming to create our own ‘guess who’ animal profiles as seen in the Book of Bones by using our de- scriptive and comparative skills. Years 5 and 6: We have started our new English block of work, instructions! To get our imaginations flowing, we were set a task of ‘1+1=what?’. This involved us choosing two random objects in the classroom and making a brand new object. We had to pitch our ideas and explain how they worked. Outcomes included: Gorilla Gloves (sticky gloves for goalkeepers during football games and becom- ing Spiderman in their spare time), Aquarium Tables (glass tables that store fish inside) and The Pop-it Bottle (a bottle made entirely out of Pop-it material to ‘cure boredom’). LOST PROPERTY We already have a large amount of UNNAMED uniform. We also have a large amount of donated uniform and very little room to store it. All unclaimed items of clothing will be disposed of at the end of this month. Go to page 2 to see a message from WAPTA and pictures from the Grenville residential!

A Message from Woodwater Academy PTA (WAPTA) Our first events are coming up in the next few weeks. After a long break due to covid, our class cake sales are back! In case you are not familiar with these: every month our classes take it in turns to hold a cake sale in the amphitheatre near the Year 1 & 2 classrooms. Parents of the class are asked to donate bought or home made cakes for the children to sell on a Thursday from around 3.10pm. All adult volunteers are very welcome to help, especially in the younger classes. A letter will go out a week before each sale so you know when it's your turn!

On Thursday 14th October it is the turn of Year 6 Horowitz class so please support them if you can.

On Thursday 22st October there will be the first non-uniform day of the year. A donation of £1 is welcomed and will help towards projects in school.

Lastly, if you're going into town on Saturday 9th October the PTA is running the Barnfield Charity Car Park from 7.30am to 4.30pm. Two thirds of the takings will go directly into school funds. Many thanks. Lisa, Chair, Woodwater Academy PTA
