The Child and Family Centre provides office-based counseling services forchildren and youth up to the age of 18 and their families. Those presentingwith acute mental health issues are seen on a priority basis.  Services may include:

CHILD AND FAMILY CENTRE

Individual and family counseling Parent education and support, individually or in groups Therapeutic groups for children and youth Case management and referral to other services Court-ordered assessments under the Youth Criminal Justice Act TAPP-C (The Arson Prevention Program for Children) assessments, inpartnership with Brantford and Brant County Fire Departments

The Day Treatment programs provide a comprehensive therapeutic school-based program in partnership with the Grand Erie District School Board.Services are provided to children ages 6 to 12 in the elementary program andyouth ages 13 to 15 in the high school program. Services are for children andyouth who are experiencing significant social, emotional and/or behaviouraldifficulties and have difficulty managing in a regular school setting. The child oryouth may also be experiencing difficulties at home and/or in thecommunity.  Services are provided to both the child and family. The ultimategoal is to reintegrate the student successfully to an appropriate settingwhether that may be his/her home school, or an alternate school. The programs focus on:

Camp Unity is a specialized summer day camp experience addressing the uniqueneeds of children and youth aged 6 – 18 with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder(FASD). Camp Unity is provided in partnership with Mohawk College, the Brant HaldimandNorfolk Catholic District School Board, the Boys and Girls Club of Brantford, and aparent and advisory council that provides recommendations and consultations onan as needed basis. Camp Unity’s objectives are: Program Eligibility Camp Unity is available to children and youth aged 6 – 18 with Fetal AlcoholSpectrum Disorder. CAMP UNITY

To provide the opportunity to maintain academic abilities during thesummer months; To provide a therapeutic environment to promote growth in social,emotional and behavioural well-being of the children and youth whoattend; To provide respite and relief to the children/youth and their families;and To build capacity within our community in the following disciplines:Child and Youth Work, Social Work, Teacher, and Educational Assistantregarding FASD. In addition to the regular camp program, Camp Unity offers a Leader,Junior Leader in Training, and a Junior Leader program for teens tobuild life and leadership skills. Junior Leaders participate in weeklytraining and program preparation for the following summer.

Camp Unity is grateful to the Brant Business Builders networking group for their loyal and generoussupport through their annual golf tournament, and to United Way Brant’s grant funding. Support fromour community partners, donors, and grant funders make this essential program possible.

GROUPSTherapeutic and educational groups are offered to children, youth and parents toaddress a variety of children’s mental health issues. Groups that are offeredthroughout the calendar year in Brantford include:

Intensive Child and Family Services is an intensive home, school andcommunity-based program for families with children and youth to the age of18 who are experiencing significant social, emotional, and/or behaviouralproblems that make it hard for them to manage in their home, school and/orcommunity and other less intensive supports are not enough. Those withacute mental health issues are seen on a priority basis. The program has a Day Treatment component for those children havingdifficulty in school settings. The Day Treatment will be available only to thosechildren within the intensive program, and will be individualized based uponclient need. Child and Youth Workers and Social Workers work collaboratively with thefamily to set goals and develop strategies to achieve them. The programoffers families an opportunity to build on their strengths, skills andrelationships. The program offers:

RESPITE SERVICESRespite services provide goal oriented, temporary care for children/youth withmental health concerns, allowing families and caregivers time to “recharge andreflect”. Respite provides opportunities for families to better address life challengesand help them maintain a healthy home environment. Services may include:

This program provides support to students from grades JK to 12 in the GrandErie District School Board and the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic DistrictSchool Board. Woodview provides services in Brantford and Brant County.Services in Haldimand and Norfolk are provided by REACH.  Services are forchildren and youth who are experiencing mental health symptoms and whosedaily life is being negatively impacted.  Support can be provided in a variety offormats to accommodate and best support the student, family and schoolstaff.  The type of service offered will be determined in collaboration with theschool, student and family. Support can be provided to students and familiesthroughout the year, not just the school year.   Services may include:

SNAP®SNAP® (Stop Now and Plan) is a proven program that teaches children withbehavioural problems, and their parents, how to make better choices ‘in themoment’. The program benefits children and youth who are acting out by focusingon regulating emotions and teaching them to stop, think, and plan positivealternatives before they act impulsively. Results show that boys and girls who learn SNAP® are less aggressive, have morepro-social friendships, are less anxious, are better at controlling their anger, arebetter students, and associate with positive peers. Woodview’s SNAP® program is provided in partnership with Six Nations of the GrandRiver.  SNAP® Program Components:

TAPP-C

This program is offered in partnership with the Fire Departments of the City ofBrantford and the County of Brant.  The goal of the TAPP-C program is to reduce therisk of fires set by children and youth in our community.  The fire departments offerfire safety education and an in-home fire safety check. Woodview conducts a clinicalrisk assessment and provides strategies to deal effectively with a child or youth’s firesetting behaviour. The program also helps to determine why the child or youth hasbeen involved with fire and whether he/she is likely to continue to be involved withfire.  To make a referral or find out more information about the program, please callthe Brantford Fire Department at 519-752-0540.

TELE-MENTAL HEALTHTele-Mental Health is a creative solution for increasing access to child psychiatry andreducing wait times for children and youth in rural, remote and underservedcommunities. Tele-MentalHealth:

Uses videoconferencing technology, Provides consultations with child psychiatrists to children/youth andtheir families without having to leave their community, Provides direct consultation that allows for diagnosis and treatmentrecommendations, and Provides agency staff with vital education and training to build theirprofessional expertise so they can provide better service to children andyouth in their community.

Tele-Mental Health is a consultation model with access to specialized mental healthconsults provided by three Hubs: The Hospital for Sick Children, the Children’sHospital of Eastern Ontario and the Child and Parent Resource Institute. There are six Service Coordination Agencies across the province coordinating accessto service. Three Service Areas are dedicated to the general population serviceproviders; and three overlapping Service Areas, are dedicated to First Nation, Metis,Inuit and urban Aboriginal service providers. Woodview is the Service Coordination Agency for the service area that includesWellington, Niagara, Haldimand, Norfolk, Brant, Perth, Oxford, Elgin, Chatham-Kent,Lambton, Huron, Bruce and Grey. As a Tele-Mental Health Service Coordination,Woodview is responsible for outreach, partnership development and organizationalsupport. All publicly funded mental health professionals working with children and youth arenow able to refer to the service. This includes professionals working in:

Child and youth mental health agencies School boards Hospital out-patient programs Family health teams Aboriginal Health Access Centres Friendship Centres Youth justice settings Child welfare agencies Other community-based agencies that provide childand youth mental health services

YOUTH JUSTICE

This program provides counseling and support to youth who are experiencingsocial, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties and have come into conflictwith the law. Services may be office, home or community based. Support isalso provided to families.

A Wraparound facilitator helps families with children or youth with complexmultiple needs to identify their unique strengths and needs, develop apersonalized plan to address them and build a team of both informal andformal supports to assist them. The support team may include familymembers, friends, neighbours, other volunteers and service providers. AWraparound plan is developed for the family and the team meets on a regularbasis to ensure that the plan is working and make any adjustments needed inthe support available to the family. Respite is offered when needed. A Community Team guides and supports the Wraparound process and iscommitted to developing partnerships between families and the localcommunity. The Community Team is made up of parents, service providers,business leaders, faith communities, and volunteers. The Community teamsupports the Wraparound process by accessing community support in theform of donations of goods and services and community resources forfamilies.
