    The theory of language learning

Woodleigh Language School believes that as much

language is learned through integration as by formal teaching.

The grammatical aspects of a language are important in

achieving accuracy, but fluency is the key to understanding

and communication. Grammar is introduced as the need

arises and when understanding permits full explanation.

    Track record

Woodleigh Language School has grown out of the

Schools long experience with full time pupils from across the

world. In the past twenty years, Woodleigh has hosted

children from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Korea, Taiwan,

Hong Kong. In 2008, the niece of former students joined us

to experience the same as her aunt and uncle!

Offering opportunities to long-stay as well as short-stay

pupils has meant the School having to gear itself up to

welcome children of very limited experience in spokenEnglish. The results have been highly impressive, with former

pupils rising to Head Pupil positions in their senior schools

and one becoming a Chemistry lecturer at the English

    Speaking University of Hong Kong.

The Schools history of success is largely down to ensuring

full integration into every aspect of School life.

    Learning a foreign

    language opens a

    childs mind to

    the opportunities

    in the world.

    Grammar, syntax

    and spelling are

    important, but

    fluency in the

    spoken language

    is the ultimate

    goal.

    Woodleigh Language School provides a

distinctively different learning style from many othercourses.

    Limited numbers

By offering the chance for a limited number of foreign

students to live within a thriving School alongside

native English speakers, fluency comes through total

    immersion. Attending normal curriculum lessons

alongside their two English guides, with no more than

one other foreign student in the same class, visitors

integrate into the School very rapidly.

    Wider opportunities

Additional to the taught curriculum, all children have

daily, coached games sessions and ample free time to

exploit the exceptionally beautiful natural resources of

the School grounds. Tennis courts, a heated

swimming pool, judo classes and gymnasium all extend

the opportunities for social integration and further

    language learning.

Woodleigh Language School- fluency through integration -

    The Programme

As a thriving School, Woodleigh offers an

exceptionally full and busy programme to each of its

pupils. Music, Drama, Art, Sport, Design Technology

and PE are an integral part of the teaching week,

alongside all the usual academic subjects. With highly

individual tailoring of the curriculum, every child is

constantly working to the upper limits of their

potential. All full-time pupils have an Individual

Education Plan detailing their personal targets, set in

conjunction with their teachers. Short-stay pupils

have a report written for them, following their stay,

detailing their progress and suggested further work.

Short-stay visitors will be able to choose to join in
