Lyrics Poster ProjectFor this project, we will be creating a poster of one of our favorite bands, using a single

image and the lyrics to one of their songs. In the end, the image will only be visible through the text of the lyrics. Use the following steps to complete the project:

STEP 1

Pick one of your favorite school appropriate songs. Go online and find a website that has the lyrics to that song, and copy them.

STEP 2

Open up a new Microsoft Word Document. Paste your lyrics into this document. Highlight your lyrics, and click the ‘Clear Formatting’ button above Font. You lyrics should now be in plain text.

BEFORE AFTER

STEP 3

With your lyrics still highlighted, find the ‘Change Case’ button. Select ‘UPPER CASE’ to change every letter to an upper case letter.

STEP 4

Go through each line and backspace so that your lyrics are one continuous line. Once you are done, copy all your text, and save this document as ‘Lyrics’ into your Multimedia / Web Design folder in case we need it later.

STEP 5

Create a new Photoshop image that is 1000 pixels X 1000 pixels. Use the Paint Bucket Tool to make your background black. Save it as ‘LyricsPoster.psd’

STEP 6

Select the Horizontal Text Tool. Select White as your color, and a font size of 10. Now paste your lyrics. You will notice that the lyrics will run off the page. This is normal.

STEP 7

Put your cursor to the right of the right-most letter that is on your image, and hit enter. The lyrics to the right of the cursor should move down to the next line. Repeat this until you run out of lyrics. At this point, you will need to paste your lyrics again and start the process over. Continue doing this until you have reached the bottom of your image.

STEP 8

Go back online and find an image of the band that sings your song (The more square the image is, the better). Copy and Paste this image onto your document, and transform it so it takes up the entire space of your image.

STEP 9

Go to your Layers palette, and while holding in the Ctrl button, click the ‘T’ next to the layer with your lyrics on it. Now go to Select => Inverse (or click Shift + Ctrl + I). Now go to the layer with your band’s image on it, and press the Delete key. If you did everything correctly, the image should only be visible through the text of your lyrics.

STEP 10

While still on the layer with your image, go to Image => Adjustment => Brightness and Contrast. Change the Brightness to 35, and the Contrast to 25.

STEP 11

Now click the Horizontal Text Tool again. Using 60pt Font, and a color that goes well with your image, type the name of your song. Then, go to Edit => Transform => Rotate, and rotate the text approximately 45 degrees, and put it in the bottom corner.

STEP 12

Make a duplicate of the layer from Step 12. Change the text to the name of the band, and the Font to 125pt. Use the move tool to move it to the opposite corner.

Now that you have completed your image, make sure you save it and submit it to the classroom dropbox!
