Woodburn Public School Shane’s Simplicities...... Classes for 2013 As advised last week our school has secured the enrolment of 104 students and therefore established our 5th class for the 2013 school year. Following the loss of a few families who moved away last year and the damage to properties during the storm last November, which has made a few homes uninhabitable for a period of time, our projected enrolment was of concern. With this exciting news we have been able to finalise our structure for 2013. That magic number of 104 students has made a big difference to our class sizes, with students now benefitting from the reduced numbers in each classroom. This year is likely to be our toughest in securing that target given projected intakes against losses, although if we lose families throughout the year this may prove a silly statement. Classes are as follows: * Kinder – 19 students (Mrs Johnston) * Year 1 – 18 students (Miss Johnston) * Years 2-3 – 22 students (Mrs Tebbutt) * Years 4/5/6 x2 – 22/23 students (Mrs Duncan/Mrs Cattle) A BIG welcome to Mrs Cattle who joins our fabulous school, teaching the 2nd 4/5/6 class. Our senior classes will continue to utilise targeted Literacy and Numeracy groups across both classes as was the case in 2012. This will allow for teachers to target learning to the individual needs of students and to better support their learning journey. These groupings are likely to commence next Monday. All 5 classes have access to Student Learning Support Officers (Teachers’ Aides) to provide support through literacy and numeracy sessions. Shane’s Simplicities......Classes for 2013

As advised last week our school has secured the enrolment of 104 students and therefore established our 5th class for the 2013 school year.

Classes are as follows:* Kinder – 19 students (Mrs Johnston)* Year 1 – 18 students (Miss Johnston)* Years 2-3 – 22 students (Mrs Tebbutt)* Years 4/5/6 x2 – 22/23 students (Mrs Duncan/Mrs Cattle)

A BIG welcome to Mrs Cattle who joins our fabulous school, teaching the 2nd 4/5/6 class.

Our senior classes will continue to utilise targeted Literacy and Numeracy groups across both classes as was the case in 2012. This will allow for teachers to target learning to the individual needs of students and to better support their learning journey. These groupings are likely to commence next Monday. All 5 classes have access to Student Learning Support Officers (Teachers’ Aides) to provide support through literacy and numeracy sessions.

following students as elected leaders for both Richmond and Bundjalung sports houses:Richmond Captains – Hayley Trustum & Bailey TrustumRichmond Vice Captains – Faith Taylor and Josh MillsBundjalung Captains – Amelia Corbett and Blair PiggottBundjalung Vice Captains – Cheyenne Horder and Jai Deahm

These students, along with our school captains, will help to role model the effective leadership skills for fellow students. I congratulate them on their election.

Car Park Access I appreciate the cooperation being provided by parents following the change to student ‘pick-up’ procedures that commenced last week. With the opportunity to add a new access point to our car park staff considered what we believed to be in the best interest of student safety. Given the busy nature of our car park and the tight access it has, when the opportunity arose to have a new access point provided it was enthusiastically accepted. Again, I extend my thanks and appreciation, and that of staff, to all who have quickly obliged with the new arrangements.

Wi-Fi Network As this term evolves so does our ability to connect wirelessly with the internet and school network. The network access is a secure network and at this time is limited to DEC devices. This helps us to maintain the safety and credibility of the DECs

secure network and minimises risks of students accessing material that is not in their best interests. The introduction of a wireless network adds to the portability and interaction opportunities for staff and students that does not rely

on computers being ‘fixed’ to the schools network.

School Photos Our 2013 school photos are set for Monday 4 March. Your child/children will be taking home from school the order envelopes. The taking of our school photos have made a gradual transition to earlier in the year following a request from parents a few years back. With our school photos now being taken in Term 1 the photos will be a little more evidence of just how tiny our Kindergarten students are when they actually start school – which is sure to be a lovely reflection in years to come.

It is important to note that the school does NOT deal with the money for photos and therefore is NOT in a position to be providing families with change on the day of ordering. Please either send along to school the order form with the correct payment or utilise the Credit Card option made available by the School Photographer.

Book Packs & Voluntary Contributions

Book packs will remain at $40 per child in 2013. Voluntary contributions are still $20 per student or $40 a family. Paying these as soon as possible will be a fabulous help! As an added incentive we will have a prize draw of 4 tickets (2 adult, 2 children) to either Sea World or Movie World for the Book Packs and 4 tickets (2 adult, 2 children) to Sea World for Voluntary Contributions. The draw for Book Packs will take place in Week 6, and Voluntary Contributions in Week 10. All families that have paid will be put in the draw. Good luck!

Until next week......

helpers to assist with small groups on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. If you are able to assist please send in the note at the end of the newsletter or ring the school to let us know.

Cost of admission to the pool is $2.00. Some reminders:• Footwear needs to be worn to and from the pool. A suggestion is to pack some thongs with the swimmers and a towel (thongs are not to be worn to school).• Swimming is part of our school curriculum and therefore it is expected that all students will swim. • Long hair will be required to be tied up (boys & girls)If there is a valid reason why a student is not swimming a note of explanation is required from home. Regular classroom consequences will apply for students who choose not to participate.
