WOODYOU BE MINE?

Fall in love with wood decor pieces—

ideas inside!

1. Forever FreshOne of the best things about faux succulents is how not faux they

look. For a decor staple like this one, spray

paint a wooden tray (copper-colored paint is a must!), fit it with floral foam, and pile

on the plants.

2. The GoodsWith the right inspiration,

a housewarming gift can become lasting

home decor. Just paint a wooden basket (careful around the handles!),

add a cheerful greeting, fill it with goodies, and

it’s welcome-to-the-neighborhood ready.

3. Duly NotedWrite it. Pin it. Clip it. If

you’ve got a note, we’ve got a message board for it. To create this beauty,

combine several different wood decor pieces, and cover a few of them with

things like chalkboard paint, corkboard and

patterned paper.

Shelf LifeWhen you can’t find the exact pallet you

want, we say make your own. Line up wood slats (they come in packs!), and nail them together using a couple more across the

back. Add a shelf and a painted metal sign (Home Decor), and you’re done!

1. Everything NiceFor nursery decor as

sweet as she is, look to patterned paper packs.

Simply cut out your favorite designs, and glue

them to painted wood canvases. And for the basket? Use a palette knife to apply FolkArt® Coastal™ Texture Paint.

2. Hooked on WoodWe bulked out this

handsome hallway addition by combining two wood decor pieces (screws and hot glue work great!), and then we stained them with

antiquing wax to match. To finish, add a bit of burlap ribbon and a stenciled salutation.

3. Tray AnythingPrefer paintbrushes to sewing needles? You can still get that quilt motif with a handled

wood tray, acrylic craft paint and some well-placed painters tape (that’s how you get

crisp lines). Grandma would be so proud.

1. Desktop DreamYou know about wood stain, but how about wax? It goes on like paint and gives raw

wood an antiqued look. (Find it with the chalky-finish paints in the Crafts Dept.!) P.S. Those

are wooden letters painted white, and we freehanded

the leaf design.

On the cover:Stain wood crates and

add decorative nail heads to bring this look to life.

2. Stand-Up GuyWith your screwdriver at

the ready, here’s how to put together this tiny table: Paint

two wooden shelves with pickling wash, connect them on the underside with hinges, and add hairpin legs (Fabric Dept.)

using additional screws.

First Thing’s FirstWhether you go humorous or heartfelt, this

tabletop sign is begging to be customized with your favorite saying. Paint and distress the wood first, freehand or stencil on the words, and finish

by dry brushing white paint over it all.

Crate GameWho says patina only happens on metal? Not us! Use a patina paint kit on the outside of these wood crates to create that beautiful aged look. Tip: These can be stacked or hung on a wall—just make sure to use proper hanging hardware!
