* Angered king greatly – questions their trespassing in his kingdom – puts them in separate cells w/ food & drink until one talks

A 2nd entrance/exit to caves – stream flowed under part of palace

PORTCULLIS: strong grating made to slide along vertical grooves

* Drink too much strong wine – fall asleep

10. What happens to the guard & butler? What does Bilbo do?

FLAGONS: large bottle of wine

* Steals guard’s keys

* Puts guard’s keys back

11. What does Bilbo do before they leave? Why?

* So doesn’t get into more trouble – will confuse them as to how they escaped

All get in an empty barrel & float down river

12. What is the big plan?

He didn’t put himself in a barrel
