EDITORIALREVOLUTIONISING THE RUGBY VIEWING EXPERIENCE
New dynamic statistics that provide better insights were introduced during this year’s Women's Six Nations Championship.
Try origins were introduced during the 2019 Championship, showing how and where each try in the game originated, as this statistic looks at the phase of play before a try is scored and provides an insight into how much a counter-attack attributed to the try, or whether it was from lineout, free kick, scrum, free kick, tap penalty, or turnover. This helps to unearth key turning points in each game and help viewers get a deeper understanding of each team’s attacking strategy. For example, 43 of the 114 tries scored during this year's Championship originated from lineouts, with 25 of those tries in the first three phases. Lineouts provided the highest number of tries for England (18), France (12), Ireland (5) and Wales (3) - as Italy scored most of their tries from counter attacks (5) and Scotland scored three of their seven tries from tap penalties.
England's dominance in the 2019 Women's Six Nations wasn't just when they had the ball. England made more dominant tackles than any other nation (80), as England's Sarah Hunter made 17 dominant tackles - more than any other player.
More data than ever before was available at the breakdown, allowing analysis on the 3,161 rucks during the 2019 Women's Six Nations. While Ireland both won the most (701) and lost the fewest (15) rucks, they were the third-quickest nation at the breakdown, as their average speed (3.15) ranked behind France (3.01) and England (3.07).
A team's type of play was also analysed, providing an insight into how a team utilised their possession - breaking this down into certain areas of the pitch and game states. It provided numbers into what each side did with their possessions, such as Scotland kicking during play more than any other nation (5.9%), although England were the most aggressive when it came out of kicking out of their own 22 (17.5% compared to Scotland's 15.0%).

England conceded 45 points - the only side to have conceded fewer than 100 points in this year's Championship - and also netted five bonus points en route to the grand slam. They became the first team to ever reach the maximum number of points since the introduction of the bonus point system in 2017.

POINTS GALORE
This is just the second time in Women's Six Nations history that every side conceded 45 points or more. Every side conceded at least 52 points in 2009, as only two nations (Scotland and Italy) conceded 100 points or more.
Two teams scored more than 170 points for the first time in the
Women's Six Nations era - combining for a total 456 points, which
is the highest combined points total of two teams in Championship
history.
14
The 721 points scored in the 2019 Women's Six Nations was the
highest-ever total for a collective Championship, eclipsing the 595
points scored in 2018.

With Scotland making more tackles than any other side in the 2019 Women's Six Nations (1,441 attempted, 1,312 successful), it's not a surprise to see that Scottish players made the most successful tackles in this year's Championship. Rachel McLachlan (129) and Sarah Bonar (121) were the only players to make more than 100 successful tackles, as seven of the top nine tacklers were Scottish. However, only Jade Konkel and Megan Kennedy ranked in the top ten for dominant tackles, as the two players combined for 25.5% (14) of Scotland's 55 dominant tackles in this year's Championship.
