The St. Mary’s Road United Methodist Annual Women’s Day

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound,

but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

John 3:8

Welcome to The St. Mary’s Road United Methodist Church Annual Women’s Day. The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a faith-based membership organization of laywomen within The United Methodist Church. The UMW are committed to growing as disciples of Jesus Christ in community with other women and advocating on behalf of women, children and youth around the world. The UMW have been in mission for more than 140 years. This year’s theme, “A Fresh Wind Blowing” comes with a deep sense of excitement and change embedded within each shift. Things that have been dormant are now beginning to appear. Things that have been promised are coming to pass. God has been laying a strong foundation in the lives of His people for years. If indeed there is a fresh wind blowing, my question to you is simple. Now that you are embarking upon the next level in your Christian maturity and ministry, which direction will you take your ministry to accomplish new heights and dimensions? What will you identify as your new normal for 2016 in response to this theme? If you respond authentically to the scripture, it is my prayer that this year moves you closer to answering the critical questions of constitution so that the manifestation of mercy and advocacy might be seen. In closing, like the Apostle Paul penned, “Every time I think of you I thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” I would like to thank the planning team and women of our UMW for your service. I also celebrate our speaker for this occasion, Ms. Yvette Richards, the National President of the United Methodist Women. I look forward with a renewed consciousness as I eagerly anticipate the Spirits move within our midst this year. Your sister on the way,

Pastor K

This is a new year and a fresh wind of God’s Spirit is blowing today. God is inviting us to raise our sails and move forward with the power and direction that reflects our commitment to God’s will. So, come on ladies, let’s make a fresh start today! The wind is blowing and the fire has begun to blaze. Step out of the boat, break free from your own limitations and see what God will do! I can’t wait to see what this fresh wind brings to our unit!!!!

Yours in Christ,

Georgette Martin

A Message From Our

United Methodist Women’s Day Chair

Helen Gibson

Working with the ladies of The Road

is an ongoing journey of projects and hard work!

It is also a journey filled with fun, laughter, good times and the building of a sisterhood comparable to none; I

love being a part of this great unit of United Methodist Women. You ladies come through each and every time

you are called upon and that is what makes you such an exceptional group. No matter what you are asked to

do individually or as a unit, you rise to the occasion and even beyond to make sure God’s work is done. I have

learned so many valuable life lessons working with you all through the years: kindness, selflessness, patience,

humility, forgiveness and love!

Max Lucado once said, “You weren’t an accident. You weren’t mass produced. You aren’t an assembly line

product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted and lovingly positioned on the earth by The Master

Craftsman.” These words describe each and every one of you. I am so humbled by your unfailing trust in me

each year!

My Thanks…

To Jackie and Shea: You two are the most amazing Administrative Assistants. No matter how late I am with my

ideas, suggestions or changes you make it happen. You fix my mistakes and keep it moving. Thank you!

To Ms. Jackie: Your teaching through the years has taught me many things. My life has been tremendously

blessed feeding off your knowledge and wisdom. I thank you for so willingly agreeing to facilitate our

Breakfast Workshop each year. I honestly do not know how you keep coming up with new and fresh lessons.

Thank you!

To LaTessa Johnson: Once again, you made me shine! Thank you!

To The Men: What can I say? There really aren’t enough words to thank you guys enough for what you do for

us on our special day. You get up before the crack of dawn to prepare our breakfast, you cater to us for an

hour and then you clean the kitchen! How blessed we are to have such great men in our midst. A special

thank you to Henry Holt for organizing the kitchen staff today and to Doug Brown for your special sausage

gravy and biscuit recipe! Thank you!

Pastor K: Your expectations are too high; your guidance and leadership is too heavy-handed; you push too

hard, you expect too much and you make me think too much! Yet, do not let my words negatively affect you

(although I know you won’t), because these are all great, positive things. You have pushed me to go beyond

my unconsciously self-imposed limits to reach higher and higher in my everyday walk and spiritual growth.

You are such a blessing to The Road. Thank You!

A Special Request from Me: Please continue to pray for our sisters Cynthia Williams and Mary Russell as God

continues His healing in their bodies and join me in dedicating this years Women’s Day Program to them.

Yours In Christ,

Helen Gibson

MARCH IS

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Women’s History Month in the United States

grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions

to culture, history and society organized by the school

district of Sonoma, California, in 1978.

Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real

Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.

A few years later, the idea had caught on within communities, school districts

and organizations across the country.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation

declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week.

The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution.

Hymn Of Praise

Holy, Holy, Holy; Holy, Holy, Holy; Holy is The Lord God Almighty; Worthy to receive Glory, Worthy to receive Honor, Worthy to receive all our Praise today.

Praise Him, Praise Him and lift Him up. Praise Him, exalt His Name forever. Praise Him, Praise Him and lift Him up. Praise Him, exalt His Name forever.

(Repeat Above)

Our Women’s Day Litany Leader: Today, we celebrate the strength, power, passion, beauty, courage and faith

of women across this world. Made in the image and likeness of God He chose the woman to lead, support, nourish and deliver His glory to the earth.

People: We praise God for the creation of the woman. Leader: We celebrate women for following the Savior’s example of service. These

vessels of life, these wives, these mothers and these believers are often overlooked, choosing to relinquish their will for the uplifting of others.

People: We honor God for endowing the spirit of service into the heart of the

woman. Leader: We give reverence to every woman, who like the beautiful, thoughtful,

mindful and powerful women of scripture continue to defy odds, banish stereotypes and serve in the face of oppression and tradition.

People: We thank God for the unselfish spirit that lives in the heart of the woman. Leader: We celebrate the women of today. We celebrate the sharing of their gifts,

talents and skills. We celebrate their ability to manage the home and the of-fice.

We celebrate their ability to serve as public officials and as Sunday School teachers. We celebrate those who are required to be both the matriarch and the patriarch and those who are strong enough to fight for civil equality but gentle enough to be the woman of some man’s dream.

All: We praise God for the virtuous women who persevered through out

yesterday, influence our today and shape our tomorrow. From the rib of man God created woman.

He has found favor in her and has sent her into the lives of every man and child. God’s creation is man’s testimony of God’s never-ending love, grace and mercy for His children.
