• We turn f ive years old this year! Save the date for the Annual Cyberjutsu Awards on
August 17, 2018 in Tysons Corner. We’ l l be rol l ing out the red carpet and a l l the bl ing

cyber, bui ld ing an audience of 2500+.
• Members gathered in San Francisco for RSA
to meet and connect over wine and desser ts.
We met new fr iends at Black Hat exhibit ing,
speaking and celebrat ing.
• During the summer, we bui l t three a l l-gir ls
CyberPatr iot teams with the help of our
volunteers and faci l i ty sponsor, Mason Game
& Technology Academy (M GTA).
• In Augu st, we held a fabulou s annu al awards
night celebrat ing several amazing women’s
successes.
• By fa l l , we kicked off ou r Cyberjutsu Gir ls
Academy (CGA) Workshops in par tnership with
the Qu alcomm® Thinkabit Lab™ at Virginia
Tech. We also announced a new corporate
sponsor, Verizon.
• We closed the year ou t with our fe l low
nonprofit fr iends. Teaming with the Women
in Technology ladies, we raised ou r g lasses
and met new fr iends at Br io in McLean.

SANS Inst itute has been awarded an EARN (Employment Advancement Right Now)
Implementation Grant from the Mar y land Depar tment of Labor, Licensing and Regulat ion
(DLLR). DLLR and SANS wi l l provide 80 qual i f ied Mar y land residents with ful l scholarships to
SANS’ Cyber Workforce Academy, providing a fast track to a career in cybersecurity. SANS
is col laborat ing with industr y and nonprofits to suppor t appl icant recruitment and post-

What brought you to WSC?
Desire to connect with other women in the f ie ld of IT, learn,
help junior professionals to excel in their careers and connect
them with other women in the industr y, share know ledge with
others.
What has been your best experience with WSC?
Workshops and classes are my favorite act iv it ies to attend as
I learned a lot and had the oppor tunity to meet others in the
WSC community.
What is one piece of career advice you’ve gained over the
years that you’d l ike to share with others?
I have to say that taking calculated r isk in my career was
one of the best strategies to get to where I wanted to go.
Also staying one step ahead and constant ly improving and
developing myself as a professional with c lasses, workshops,
cer t if icat ions and conferences. Having a ver y good resume is
a huge game changer. Staying curious and connected with the
hir ing needs and trends in the f ie ld.

• We formed three CyberPatr iot competit ion teams and the gir ls had the oppor tu nity to come
up with a name ( “Screen Queens ” ) and design a logo for their competit ion shir ts. The teams
p ractice ever y Sunday with their Tech Mentors.
• Did you s ee us at the Loudoun Cou nty STEM Fair ? We had a great booth showcasing how
fruit and vegetables can conduct e lectr ic ity to power games and mu sic. We had a ton of fun
with the kids and even Congresswoman Comstock stopped by to help u s ou t.
• Our Cyberjuts u Gir ls Academy stu dents attended the S ANS Cyber Defense Init iat ive 2017 in
Washington, DC. A long with the Gir l Scouts and other gir ls nonprofit programs, we spent
the evening focus ed on STEM activ it ies, expo, and tal ks.
• Over the hol iday break, the National Cybersecurity Al l iance arranged a v is it to the DHS’s
N ational C ybersecurity and Commu nications Integrat ion Center (NCCIC) for a group of
young women. By v is it ing this 2 4x7 cyber center, the gir ls learned more about incident
response and how the Federal Government, intel l igence community, and law enforcement
work together to protect our networks and data.
Cybe rjutsu Gir ls Academy offers a wide range of workshops for middle school and high school-
age d gir ls to explore the many areas in technology and cybersecurity. These workshops
p rovide a hands -on, fun, and interactive environment in topics such as web design, mobi le
ap pl icat ion development, computer fu ndamentals, programming and many more for the
gir ls to par t ic ipate in. Thes e workshops increase competency and confidence in science,
te chnology, engineering, and math (STEM ).
For the 2017-18 program year, we have 2 0 young women enrol led in the academy, which is
being held at the Qualcomm® Thinkabit Lab™ at Virginia Tech. Thanks to ou r sponsors, we
have a wonder ful faci l i ty located near a metro stat ion at a redu ced cost.
