A clean and green campus, multistoried buildings with spacious

classrooms and well equipped laboratories welcome the

students. The computerized general library is stocked with

the latest books and journals, both national and international.

The computer science department has four modern computer

labs for UG and PG courses respectively. They also have a library

that caters to their specific needs. Volleyball, basketball courts

and other sports facilities are available. The Hostel situated just

2 kms away from the college accommodates more than 1,000

students. Nutritious and hygienic food is available at the canteen.

The InstitutionPSGR Krishnammal College for Women was started on

th28 June, 1963 by Shri. G.R. Govindarajulu and

Smt. Chandrakanthi Govindarajulu. It was inaugurated by the

then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri. Bhakthavatchalam.

The institution caters to the needs of women in higher

education. Having started modestly with 35 students and

10 faculty members, it has now established itself as a pioneer

institution offering traditional and modern courses with

state-of-the-art technology, all the way from UG to

Research level.

The UGC conferred Autonomous Status to the institution in

the year 2004 and the college is Reaccredited with 'A' Grade

(CGPA - 3.58) by NAAC (National Accreditation and rdAssessment Council) in 2014 (3 cycle). The institution is

ISO 9001:2008 Certified and recognized by DST-FIST under

the ‘College as a whole’ scheme. The Botany department is a

‘DST-FIST’ sponsored department under the Level 1 scheme.

NCC has always been the pride of the college. The cadets exhibit their talents in shooting, aero-modeling, map reading, gliding, parasailing, mountaineering and trekking.

The cadets have represented the Tamil Nadu Contingent at the Republic Day Parade and have also participated in Youth Exchange Programmes.

NSS units have been engaged in computer literacy programs, vocational training, development of entrepreneurial skills, formation of self-help groups, etc.

The YRC has more than one hundred blood donors. Members undergo first aid training and visit old age homes and orphanages. Regular yoga classes are conducted for undergraduates.

Our institution is recognized as a “Regional Centre” in Geriatric Care by the National Institute of Social Defence, an autonomous body of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Various programmes related to the care of the elderly are carried out, including a six month Certificate Course in Geriatric Care. Placement is provided to those students in old age homes, home care units, hospitals, etc. This centre works for socially and educationally related assignments sponsored by the Central Government and schemes on “inclusiveness with equal access to all”.

Ragging is Banned

Ragging is strictly prohibited in this institution. Names of those indulging in ragging will be instantly removed from the roll and further action will be taken, as per Government order.

“Child marriage has serious consequences for national development, stunting education and vocational opportunities for a large sector of the population. Furthermore, marriage at a very young age has grave health consequences for both the young women and their children.”

As per the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006,the penalty for facilitating child marriage is rigorous punishment for up to 2 years and/or a fine of 1 lakh rupees.

Amrita Virtual Interactive e-Learning World (A-VIEW)

is a framework that provides a rich, interactive, social

environment for e-Learning in educational, corporate, entertainment and other applications. A-VIEW is a

highly compact and flexible software with an objective to provide a platform for sharing the values, resources

and knowledge of excellent teachers from all over the world to students through the EDUSAT network.The A-VIEW platform involves multiple displays, which

will give students an unhindered and uninterrupted view of slides, whiteboard and other multimedia

material apart from the teacher’s audio / video. The sessions are recorded and indexed so that it is available

to the students for later reference.

Virtual Lab

A Nodal Centre for a Virtual Lab is to be established in collaboration with the National Mission for Education through Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetam, Kollam.

The objective of NPTEL makes e-learning material available on the web, for the video lectures to supplement classroom teaching. A large number of students who are unable to attend scholarly institutions will have access to quality content through NPTEL. The NPTEL project has currently more than 550 courses available and our students have access to this material.
