Dear Readers,I want to thank all our sponsors and, the three incredible

speakers and those who attended our 2nd annual

Making An Impact Conerence For Women! April 9 is

Equal Pay Day. This date symbolizes how ar into 2013

women must work to earn what men earned in 2012..

Equal Pay Day was originated by the National

Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a publicawareness event to illustrate the gap between mens

and womens wages. Since Census statistics showing

the latest wage gures will not be available until

late August or September, NCPE leadership decided

years ago to select a Tuesday in April as Equal Pay

Day. (Tuesday was selected to represent how ar into

the work week women must work to earn what men

    earned the previous week.)

The date also is selected to avoid religious holidays and

other signicant events. Because women earn less, on

average, than men, they must work longer or the same

amount o pay. The wage gap is even greater or most

women o color and less or other minorities.

Red is worn on this day as a symbol o how ar women

and minorities are in the red with their pay. Lets allwear red and show our support or this important day!!

Hope you all have a great month!

    Mimi

Your business, tell us about whatkind o services it provides- My business is an Authentic Market-ing/Branding Consulting and Coach-ing rm. I work with soulul, heart-centered entrepreneurs and servicebusiness owners, non-prot orga-nizations and aith-based ministriesthrough trainings, workshops, inten-

sives and retreats. I assist in ndingyour authentic marketing voice in yourbusiness and position your business toattract your ideal clients consistently.

    What inspired youwrite your book?

    - What has inspired me to write mybook is because I work with so manyentrepreneurs and business ownerswho know what they are called to intheir business and are quite good atwhat they do, but they dont knowhow to authentically communicatethat to their target market or niche toconsistently make a prot that keeps

them in business or grow. Addition-ally, entrepreneurs are good at whatthey do and marketing is not some-thing that they know about or under-stand, but they know that you cannothave a business and not market it.So I wanted to write a book to speak

to nding your authentic marketingvoice and how to consistently attract

    clients to grow their business.

Additionally, I want to speak to the actthat when you are in business and youare heart-centered and soulul, you arein your business to serve and what itreally means to be a kingdom-mindedbusiness. We were taught that i youbuild it, people will come and that is

simply not true, you have to speak yourideal clients language that will attractthem and keep them engaged whilebuilding authentic relationships whichmany just dont know how to do.

What would you say isyour greatest motivator?

    - My greatest motivator is that I knowthat I am great at what I do and I knowwhat I know and others need to knowit as well and i I keep it to mysel, Iwould not be serving my higher pur-pose. So knowing that what I have tooer my ideal clients need it because Iam called to serve them to the best omy ability. I hear it all o the time, Peo-

ple are waiting on what is in you andyou have to get it out because that isyour purpose and passion. I dont wantto obtain all o the knowledge anddont share it that is selsh especiallywhen I know they need it in order orall o us to play BIGGER!

Where do you see yoursel5 years rom now?

    - Five years rom now, I see mysel asa greater successul business ownerwho is known internationally as anAuthentic Marketing & Brandingexpert. Additionally, this year I wouldhave completed my Doctoral Degreein Marketing which will give me a big-ger platorm to teach at universitiesand open the door or more speak-

ing engagements. As, I am seeking tobecome a rst time author, I wouldhave authored several other books inthe eld o marketing and also oth-ers in empowering women whichspeaks to my other passion. My desireit to travel internationally, consulting, coaching and training others in mar-

    keting and business.

I you could choose any otherproession or yourselbesides the one you are in,what would that be, and why?- I I could choose another proessionit would have been a psychologist be-cause I love working with others and

empowering them to see the best inthemselves that can turn their livesaround. Actually, that was going tobe my major until I ound my passionin marketing, but I nd mysel goingback to that almost every day exceptin the avenue o business. It actu-

ally comes with the territory becausewhen you are a business owner, youhave to know how to deal with chal-lenges and issues not just with othersbut also within yoursel because you

have to know what your strengthsand weaknesses are. I have dealt withmany who are challenged with givingup on their dreams and businessesand sometimes lie, so there are timeswhen I do get to walk in that git. Justcannot practice it.

What advice do you have orwomen who are just startingout in business?

    - The advice that I have or womenwho are just starting out is that whenyou know your purpose and yourpassion, you cannot give up on it be-cause it looks grey. Only you can giveup on you and i you do, then whatdo you have? You must walk out yourpurpose because there is someonewho needs what is inside o you. Iwhat is not working or you one way,try another way because it is not inyou to ail and walk away rom it. Youknow that it is your passion so give ittime to come into ruition because itwill happen. Stay the course!

ashtags are merely key-words or keyword phrasesused to categorize tweets.

By putting a # symbolbeore a relevant keyword or phrase (nospaces) a link is automatically created. This is called a hashtag. This link is click-able allowing you to see all other tweetsrelated to this topic today. Hashtags al-low inormation to spread and be cat-egorized through the twittersphere.

How hashtags help with marketingIts important to use #hashtags in yourtweets eectively broadening youraudience and helping you to gainmore ollowers. Events and Coner-ences use #hashtags to allow attend-ees to hold a conversation as a group.Think o it like virtual networking.

Seriously, hashtag etiquette?1. Dont overuse them2. Make your hashtags short remem-

ber they take up precious real estatein your 140 character limit

    3. No spaces - #charlottenc

    4. Do not hijack popular hashtags toget your tweet seen.-This is SPAM!

@williamscrystal why is thisimportant in my tweetWhen mentioning users in Twitter i youput a @ symbol beore their usernamesyou are directing the conversation to aspecic individual or group grabbingtheir attention. Unlike a direct messagethis conversation is public. The mentionthen becomes a link to that personsTwitter account taking readers to theirtweets and proles. Mentions are a greatway to shout out to your avorite brandor riends. In summary when construct-ing a tweet try using a relevant #hashtagand mentioning @someone to helpgrow your audience and engage moreollowers. So get out there and shake

    your Twitter handles!

R codes are wonderultools to create wonder-ul opportunities or

your business. . However, unless you have an actual plan in placeor your QR code, you could be squan-dering this excellent opportunity. Insome cases, i you use your QR codethe wrong way, not only will it notmake you any money, it could actuallylose you customers. Several mistakesabound when using QR codes. Here

are some o the most common.

Not Going To A True Mobile SiteThis is the biggest NO when it comesto QR codes. Too oten, the business willhave a QR code in place. However, whenpeople scan it, they go to the normaldesktop website. This, more so than any

other mistake, will lose you customers.

A desktop website does not look goodon a smart phone. The words are toosmall, the pictures are too large, and itdoes not load ast enough. A QR codeshould go to a mobile riendly site. This

mobile riendly site can be a video, a spe-cial webpage, or even an opt-in page.

Whatever type o site it is, make surethat it loads quickly, that the text andpictures are the right size or smartphones, and that the buttons are allnger riendly.

Repeating The Same InormationA QR code is a way to complementyour existing marketing. As such, it

needs to say or oer something di-erent that a person cant get withoutscanning a QR code. Many businessesmake the mistake o repeating thesame inormation that the customerjust saw, on a mobile site.

This is a waste o your QR code op-

portunity. A person who has scannedthe QR code wants to know more. Ithey see the exact same inormationtheyve just seen on a mobile site, theywill be disappointed. Thereore, theywill be unlikely to scan your QR codeagain. Even worse, theyre unlikely to

visit your mobile site at all in the uture.Instead o sending them to a site withthe same inormation, send them to a

place where they can get a special o-er. Another idea is to make a webmer-cial o the inormation that they havejust read. Oten, people dont mindseeing the same inormation again aslong as its in a dierent ormat, such astext, audio, and especially videos.

I youre still wondering what should

be at the end o your QR code, simplygive them a work in progress squeezepage. A squeeze page is where they

can enter their email. A work in progresssqueeze page would say somethinglike this. Hi there, you savvy smartphone

user. This page is coming soon andwhen it does, it will have a special oeror you. Sign up now and you shouldget it in (this amount o time).

A coupon also works well here. Themost important thing to rememberabout a work in progress squeezepage, is that you are acknowledging

theyre on a smart phone and you aremaking them eel good about it. Thisin turn will make them eel good about

No Way To TrackIts true, that online you can get a QRcode or pennies on the dollar, or evenree. However, the ree/cheap optionsare not the best options because oone simple word; tracking. Like anyorm o advertising, you want to be

able to track your results. You want toknow how many people scanned it.Without this inormation, you dontknow whether to continue with yourQR code marketing.

There are ways to track QR codes. Paidoptions or QR codes given to you byyour Internet Marketing Consultantoten have built-in tracking.

QR codes are still in their inancy herein America, and have yet to reach theirull potential. Thats good news or you, because their novelty hasnt worn oyet. There are many ways to turn QRcode into cash; simply think o it as an

extension o your business. What doyou want people to do? Sign up to alist? Buy something? Become educatedabout something that they are think-ing about buying? Or simply have yourinormation or later?

Whatever you decide to do withyour QR code, make sure that it o-ers unique, value-added inormation, theres a way to track it, and that itgoes to a true mobile site. I you keepthese tips in mind, QR codes can helpcomplement your existing marketingbeautiully, both online and o.

Why is having a solid ac-

    counting system impor-

    tant when you start a

business and how comemost entrepreneurs do not start out that

way? Especially when business is good,

its tempting to assume that your ac-

    countant has everything under control.

But many accountants ocus primarily on

lling out quarterly tax returns without

really tracking the perormance o the

underlying business. Most successulbusiness owners understand that i they

really want to manage their business,

they need to get comortable with the

undamentals o accounting. To help you

navigate the world o business owner-

    ship, here are some tips:

First and Foremost: Cash is king

Every business large or small goesthrough cash crunches rom time to

time, but i it is requent, then you may

have to re-think the way you do busi-

ness. Sometimes it may seem a mystery

since you are making sales and you are

working 24-7, but there are only a ew

explanations: Your gross margins may be

too low, caused by improper cost esti-

mate. Your overhead, including rent and

payroll, may be too high. Your paymentterms may be too liberal or youre billing

procedures too slack or your accounts

receivable might be over the 90+ period.

This is why having an accounting system

is so critical and will allow you to keep an

eye on the cash ow o your business.

Systems are a good thingBusiness systems all the way rom ac-

counting to human resources to sales

dene the basic tasks o the business

down to the letter, then you can ollow it,

take the stress o re-inventing the wheel

all the time and have a sense o order

which in turn will allow you to ocus on

    making the cash.

Keeping good records will saveyou headaches and dollars tooSometimes the most trivial-seeming

matters can really trip you up. For exam-

ple, many small businesses do not have

neglect to paper trail. This can lead to tax

and legal problems i you do not keep

    your nancial records: invoices, receipts,

statements, etc. and you are audited,

it can lead to nes and penalties. And

this is just one o many examples where

crossing the Ts and dotting the Is is so

    important to business owners.

To grow, you must rst learn to letgo (delegate)

For a business to grow and be healthy, the owner has to trust his or her manag-

ers, the managers have to trust their sta

members, and so on. You have to accept

the act that you cannot do it yoursel

and achieve great success. You have to

train others based on the business sys-

tems and allow them to help you grow

    your business.

Running a small business is no small task

but i you set a strong oundation start-

ing with your accounting system, learn

the art o delegating which includes

outsourcing, you will be able to reach

    your goals!

Follow your scrub with a rich cleansing

gel to rejuvenate and add moisture to

your skin. Capture the illusion o a spagetaway with tropical-scented cleansers

such as Sotsoap Coconut Island Quench

Body Wash, which is enriched with co-

conut oil extract to leave skin eeling sot

and supple, or Sotsoap Acai Berry and

Tropical Water Body Wash, inused with

    antioxidant-rich acai berry extract and

    moisturizing beads to invigorate both

    body and mind.

Perect PedicureTo get your eet eeling smooth and clean,

blend 2 tablespoons sea salt in a basin o

warm water. For an extra spa-like experi-

ence, add a ew drops o lavender oil. A-

ter a nice soak, make a scrub using 3 parts

salt and 1 part water. I more exoliationis needed, add 1 part brown sugar to the

scrub. Rinse. Use a nail brush and cuticle

pusher to reshen up your nails. Finish

with a rich moisturizer and a warm towel

oot wrap. Let sit or 5 to 10 minutes, then

add your avorite nail polish and a protec-

    tive top coat.

Banishing BagsFor tired, puy eyes, brew a large mug o

tea using two tea bags. Let them cool to a

    comortable temperature, then place one

bag over each eye. To reduce an extreme

case o pufness, cool bags completely

in the rerigerator and apply as cold com-

presses. Turn on some sot music and lay

    back to relax.

Hair Care HelpBaking soda helps remove the residue that

styling products leave behind. To get rid o

product buildup and leave your hair clean-

er and more manageable, sprinkle a quar-

we need to impress our clients withmore words. What they want to leavethe conversation with is a sense ohaving been listened to.

    6. Consider recording the conversationi what is being discussed needs tobe noted. Be sure to ask the party orparties who are part o the conversa-tion i recording them is permissible. Iyou have no way to record the con-

versation, consider including a thirdparty who can take notes. You dontwant to be distracted by taking noteswhen you are on an important call.

    7. I you work rom home, be sure youmake calls at times when other ac-tivities are not going on around you.Dogs barking, children vying or yourattention, a repairman at the door,do not project a business atmo-sphere to whoever you are talking to.

    8. Try to schedule your calls whenyou are at your best during the day. Some people shine in the morning

and others are at their best in theaternoon. I you have an importantbusiness call to make, do it whenyou are at your most energetic.

    9. Set boundaries as to when you willtake calls. While business is impor-

tant, so is a personal lie. Try to keepthe two separate. This lets youramily know that your time withthem is precious, and sends a mes-sage to your business colleaguesand clients that you are a personwith healthy boundaries.

    10. Lastly, remember to breathe andpause when talking on the phone.Taking a breath and pausing be-

ore answering someones ques-tion or responding to what theyvejust said gives the impression ostrength and calm, two major attri-butes o leadership. The pause alsogives the person you are talkingto the eeling that they are beingresponded to in a respectul way.

Remember, no matter how manyemails or text messages you exchangewith clients and colleagues, your phonemanners are an essential ingredient inbuilding strong business relationships.
