Session 1: Keynote address Challenges for women leaders in a post-truth environmentAs the internet and social media provide unprecedented access to information and commentary, an unforeseen consequence is that responses to contemporary problems are becoming increasingly emotional, personal or ideological.

Research, evidence and balanced reports are often ignored in favour of subjective, entrenched views. If facts don’t matter, how can public policy and laws be developed to address today's challenges?

Professor Triggs will consider the implications for women leaders in this “post-truth” era.

Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggsformer President of the Australian Human Rights Commission

9.00am – 10.00am

Session 2: Panel Discussion Aligned Values – Why is this important?Have you ever considered whether your personal values align with the corporate values of your workplace? Have you ever felt them conflict?

Achieving a satisfying and viable work life balance takes time and effort, but the rewards for all parties make the process incredibly worthwhile.

So how do you achieve such a balance?

Navigate this process with insights from a panel of current and emerging leaders who will share their views and experiences on a variety of work/life challenges, including the importance they place on aligned values in their own professional lives.

Session 4: Your role as a leader or potential leader: having the courage to lead YOUR way If the leaders we admire are men and the traits that we identify with leadership are masculine, where does that leave women?

Unfortunately, far too many working women have chosen a pathway of emulation rather than differentiation. After 30 years of being told by “experts” to play the game like a man would, they have modelled their own style of leadership after the men who occupy the top positions.

But many women find fitting into the male model of leadership is an unnatural course for them to take, and it devalues and denies the unique feminine based strengths and contributions that you can bring to the masculine world of business.

Ultimately, this ‘macho’ model of success leaves many women feeling conflicted; appearing aligned with the business world around us, but out of alignment within ourselves. This workshop will look at how women can stand powerfully on the feminine foundation that resides in our right brains, rather than place our entire business future on the masculine thought patterns and skill sets of our rational left brain.

Maureen Frankemberin

12.00pm – 12.45pm

Session 5: Fixing the Workplace (Not the Women) Based on the key themes in her new book, Stop Fixing Women, Catherine Fox presents practical insights on how businesses can save time and money by addressing bias in workplaces’ rules and practices instead of telling women to ‘lean in’.

Catherine will also cover why the key to driving change is going to the top and getting powerful men involved in closing the gender gap and developing fairer workplaces.

Session 6: How can women contribute to the solution? To demonstrate the difference that women could potentially make in the decision making process and policy choices, the potential for ‘in-group’ bias, path dependency, and the capacity for different thinking between men and women, the audience is asked to consider their own conscious and unconscious gender biases in relation to two short stories about tax. The first relates to the tax deductibility of child care costs while the second relates to human rights obligations.
