PRESIDENT’s MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
The holidays are quickly coming upon us. Of course, it's a great time of year and we have so many reasons to give thanks. I can tell you personally that I am so grateful for all of the support so many of our members have given to help our club
get off to a great start this year. My thanks go to each of you who participated in the Harvest Festival, whether it was riding our float in the parade or working at the booth promoting our club. Thanks to Bob & Bobbi Cherry for providing and driving the float and to Gloria Haas and Annette Smith for their hours of work on the decorations. Thanks to Alison Stuart for working so hard to get our first fundraiser off the ground. The Artisan's Faire is coming up quickly and she needs your help in getting the word out and selling the $1 tickets for the opportunity drawing. Please spread the word and come...and bring a friend to the faire. We know a lot of work goes into making the event a success, and, last year our members really helped Rose & Caroline with their efforts. Please do it again for Alison. I know for a fact that when you take part in helping out at our events, the rewards come back to you in new friendships and good feelings about making a difference.
I'm also thankful for our September and October committees and workers and caterers who have done a great job in two very fun and enjoyable meetings. So, with Thanksgiving this month, think of all of the simple things we sometimes take for granted that we should appre-ciate just a little more. Also, please consider our Buy a Brick fundraiser which will benefit our planned kitchen remodel. I've heard that some of you, as a group, plan to purchase a brick for the patio and engrave it in honor of your friendships. I can't think of a nicer thing than
appreciating your girlfriends!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, - Mary
The October luncheon was a spooktacular
success. Madelyn from Madelyn’s Apparel pre-
sented the latest in fashions for the upcoming
holiday season. The lunch was truly Fall faire
with grilled cheese sandwiches and soup...yum!
Laura Vopatek was the Opportunity Drawing
winner, returning her $86
winnings towards the Kitchen
Remodel fund!

Proposed Change in By-Laws
Karen Lujan has suggested that our by-laws be
amended to allow for our members who have become ill or moved away to stay connected with
the Woman’s Club of Arroyo Grande. The problem
has been members who are unable to complete the
letter required to become “inactive” and who then
are placed on committees in which they are unable to participate. We do not want to lose these
invaluable members! Her proposal is to rewrite the
by-laws to allow Board approval for inactive status
in the absence of the formal written request if the
Board has “personal knowledge” of a member’s situation. Chairperson Dana Pojas will be updating
the by-laws and presenting it to the membership
for approval. Stay tuned….

ARTISAN FAIR UPDATE You may be reading this just before our Club's 7th Annual Artisan Faire and if so, please
continue to spread the word to your families, friends and neighbors about this
outstanding upcoming event! As you know, this is our major fund raiser for
Fall and we are looking forward to a very successful and enjoyable day. There
are 25 very gifted artisans arriving from all over the central coast to show
their art, crafts and edibles and there will be quite a variety of items for sale;
get your holiday shopping done early all in one place. We will have a full Cafe
with beverage, snack and lunch items including a selection of homemade pies
for sale (both by the slice and whole). As part of the Faire, you can buy a ticket
(or several!) for our Opportunity Drawing and win some cash while building up
our scholarship funds. Keep encouraging people to come (its free!) so we take
advantage of this year's larger venue. The Faire is Saturday, November 8th
from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Pismo Beach Veteran's Memorial Hall on Bello
Street (just up the hill from 101 - take the Price Street exit). If you need more
info on the Faire itself, check out the poster and links on our club website.
See you there! - Alison Stuart

To Everyone —
2014 will be a year I long remember—
first for losing our son, then my trip to
the hospital, and finally losing my
husband. It was almost all I could handle...
but you were with me every step of the way. I
deeply appreciated every thought and care
expressed in your cards. No one could ask for
a better support group. Thank you sincerely.

Dear Woman’s Club of Arroyo Grande,
My name is Reyna Chavez Solis and I have been awarded a scholarship from your organ-
ization. I am honored to be the recipient of this scholarship. It was an honor to have
had the chance to meet all of you wonderful ladies at the scholarship tea in person...and all of the
hard work and effort all you amazing ladies did to raise all the money for scholarships. I am hon-
ored to have been one of the students. I will be attending Fresno State this fall. I plan on studying
nutrition but also want to see and discover other majors….I want to have the opportunity to study
abroad. I plan to be the first one in my family to receive a college education and my Master’s
Degree….and make a difference in the community. Our community is lucky and truly blessed to
have you as a part of it because you give a chance for students like me to get one step closer to
their dream of higher education. Thank you for taking time to learn about my story and my future
dreams. Reyna Chavez Soliz
