at London Fashion Week.

Christian Wijnant is the new name on everyones lips and was announced the winner of the 2013 International Woolmark Prize, during the final award event, held at the ME Hotel.

Natalie Massenet, Chairman of the British Fashion Council, opened the event; a judging panel including Victoria Beckham, Donatella Versace, Diane von Furstenberg, Franca Sozzani and Tim Blanks, selected the winner.

“Christian invented a new shape and made it possible with an industrial production process,” explained Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue. “His designs are flattering, feminine and sexy, a modern interpretation of wool.”

After a global search, spanning twelve months, reaching across sixteen countries and involving over seventy designers, six finalists representing Australia, China, Europe, India, Japan and the USA, competed for the final international prize – of $100,000 AUD and the opportunity to be stocked in the most important boutiques around the globe, including Harvey Nichols – London, Bergdorf Goodman – NY, 10 Corso Como – Milan, Joyce – China, David Jones – Sydney and Eickhoff Königsallee – Germany, Dion Lee - Australia - Ban Xiao Xue - China, Christian Wijnants - Europe (Belgium), Pankaj and Nidhi - India, DRESSEDUNDRESSED - Japan, Sophie Theallet - USA.

The Woolmark Company Managing Director, Stuart McCullough, said, “The International Woolmark Prize seeks outstanding and emerging talent from around the world and we saw exceptional artisanship and design presented tonight. The prize is our commitment to supporting the future of the fashion industry and we are honoured to have received support from the global industry, by way of our premier retail partners and judges, both at the international and regional level.”

Christian Wijnants capsule Merino wool collection featured at the awards, was based on the simple idea of starting from a single white yarn and to explore all its potential. The designer worked with one type of yarn, in 100% Merino Wool, on seamless garments, knitted in one piece.

The NextGeneration of Fashion

The leading theme was based on hand-knitting and hand-dyeing techniques, using deep colours inspired by crystals and minerals and experimenting to obtain unique shades and avoid shrinkage.

Every piece was dyed with innovative techniques and some of them unravelled and then re-knitted, to create a unique irregular effect.

The collection will be available in partner retailers globally as of September 2013.

The final award event featured NEXT Models, with make-up by MAC and hair by Lyndell Mansfield and team at CLM, thanks to Bumble & Bumble. Official airline partner for the event was Qantas. n

I arrived on Thursday afternoon and was immediately in awe of the breathtaking views surrounding this hotel from every side. I was greeted by a very helpful and polite front desk assistant, who showed me to my room. “WOW” was the first word uttered as the door closed and I stood in my Luxury room (no. 7 the best room in the house!), with its larger than kingsize bed and even larger than average bath, enough room for 2 in fact! It was beautiful, every detail thought of, from the lovely fluffy gown and slippers, to the delightful Molton Brown accessories in the bathroom.

Very soon, I was booked in for a massage in the newly built NSpa treatment cabin, situated in the grounds of Fishmore Hall. I met with my therapist, Natalie, who just so happened to be the founder and owner of NSpa. The cabin is lovely and warm and cosy. It immediately creates a sense of calm and relaxation, which is exactly what was needed after the long drive from London. The massage was exquisite, I was now in a complete state of relax. Normal life and the usual rat run were well and truly behind me, left there until I went home. The cabin is a great little extra the hotel has to offer and really adds to the uniqueness of this hotel.

In addition to the beautiful , individually decorated bedrooms in this hotel, there is also a really nice and comfortable lounge area, great for some pre-dinner drinks, which is exactly where I was enjoying a nice glass of wine before my dinner reservation in the award winning Forelles Restaurant. The food was simply stunning, an al la carte menu to die for and you can certainly see why this restaurant, run by head chef David Jaram, has won various rosettes and awards and is popular with local people from outside the hotel. 3 courses and even some pre-courses, I was fit to burst and retired to my room for what was a total restful sleep in a giant bed with crisp white linen sheets.

I had asked for a late check out and, since I visited the hotel mid week and it had not reached full capacity, they were more than happy to grant this request. A delicious breakfast made with local produce arrived at 10am prompt and breakfast in bed was the perfect ending to a perfect stay in a perfect hotel.

If you are looking for a relaxing escape, be it midweek or weekend and fancy visiting this beautiful unspoilt area of the UK, with its gorgeous restaurants and the stunning castle, then Ludlow is definitely worth a visit, and a stay at Fishmore Hall is an absolute must. The hotel and its staff cannot do enough for you and, if you have a special request, they will do everything they can to achieve it for you. Various packages are of offer by the hotel to suit all needs. You won’t want to leave Fishmore Hall and you will definitely want to come back. n
