Page 8: with IBM Corp....Primary features IBM Spectr um Accelerate version 1 1.5.3.c of fers the following primary functional featur es, which ar e based on the pr oven XIV storage technology

Important: The following hardware components and configuration must bededicated solely for the IBM Spectrum Accelerate virtual machine. Additionalhardware resources are needed for other virtual machines, applications, orbackground services that run in parallel, and for the ESXi server functionality.

Required hardware

The following hardware components on the ESXi host machine must be dedicatedfor the IBM Spectrum Accelerate virtual machine (additional hardware resourcesmust be allocated for the ESXi server functionality):v x86-64 CPU with 4 physical cores (not counting on Hyper-Threading) or more. If

only 4 physical cores are used, their maximum CPU utilization must bededicated to IBM Spectrum Accelerate. 2 additional cores must be allocated forthe ESXi server functionality.

v At least 24 GB and up to 128 GB of RAM –– All ESXi host machines must have the same amount of physical RAM

dedicated for the IBM Spectrum Accelerate virtual machine.– Additional and sufficient RAM must be allocated for the ESXi server

functionality.

– If 4 TB or 6 TB disks are used (see disk options below), at least 48 GB ofRAM is required for the Spectrum Accelerate virtual machine.

v 6 to 12 physical hard disk drives (HDDs) –– Capacity of at least 1 TB and up to a maximum of 6 TB is required for each

HDD.– All HDDs should have the same capacity.– All ESXi host machines must have the same number of HDDs (6 to 12)

dedicated for the IBM Spectrum Accelerate virtual machine.– All HDDs must have up-to-date firmware. Check the HDD manufacturer

website to obtain the most updated disk firmware.

– If SED capable HDDs (Self-Encrypting Drives) are used, only the global band(Band 0) can be defined. No user bands are allowed.

– An additional disk is required for the VMware ESXi Server software.– For better performance (not mandatory, but recommended) :

- Any RAID function of the disk controller should be disabled (all HDDsshould work in JBOD mode). Instead of RAID functions, use a host busadapter (HBA). If used, verify the HBA firmware and driver version asspecified in VMware KB article 1027206 (kb.vmware.com/kb/1027206).

- Any SAS controller should function without a cache, and should becompatible with VMware ESXi as specified on the VMware CompatibilityGuide (vmware.com/resources/compatibility).

v One solid-state drive (SSD) of 480 GB or larger capacity of up to 800 GB forcaching purposes (not mandatory, but recommended).

v At least one 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) port for the interconnect network; upto eight ports per ESXi host machine.

v At least one Gigabit Ethernet (1 GigE) port (or of higher capacity) for themanagement and iSCSI networks.

v Uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
