Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, we remember those in

our military who have given their lives for the sake of our freedom.

Last week, I was able to participate in a moving ceremony

commemorating the members of our military from the state of Ohio

who have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq. The ceremony

was part of the “Ohio Flags of Honor” Memorial which moves through

many communities in our state each year. Each name was a read and

an American flag was posted in their honor. Seeing so many flags

flying was a sobering reminder of the price of freedom. Don’t take

that for granted. Please say a prayer on this Memorial Day for the

souls of those who have given all to protect us and for their families

left behind. I came across a beautiful prayer written by a priest for

Memorial Day and am sharing it with you to reflect on this weekend:

With Gratitude and Honor by Fr. John Veltri, S.J.

Gracious God, on this Memorial Day weekend,

we remember and give thanks

for those who have given their lives

in the service of our country.

When the need was greatest,

they stepped forward and did their duty

to defend the freedoms that we enjoy,

and to win the same for others.

O God, you yourself have taught us

that no love is greater than that

which gives itself for another.

These honored dead gave the most precious gift they had,

life itself,

for loved ones and neighbors, for comrades and country – and for us.

(Fr’s letter is continued inside)

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Rooted in one baptism and many ethnic

traditions, All Saints Parish celebrates,

cultivates, and grows knowledge and faith

to love and serve both God and neighbor.

(Fr. Recker’s letter continued)

Help us to honor their memory

by caring for the family members

they have left behind,

by ensuring that their wounded comrades

are properly cared for,

by being watchful caretakers of the freedoms

for which they gave their lives,

and by demanding that no other young men and women

follow them to a soldier’s grave

unless the reason is worthy and the cause is just.

Holy One, help us to remember that freedom is not free.

There are times when its cost is, indeed, dear.

Never let us forget those who paid so terrible a price

to ensure that freedom would be our legacy.

Though their names may fade with the passing of generations,

may we never forget what they have done.

Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice,

O God, help us to be worthy.

God bless you,

Fr. Recker

PASTORAL COUNCIL UPDATE

Pastoral Council met on Tuesday, May 8, 2018; and

although it was a rather short meeting it was also

productive, as always! We discussed the nominees for new

Council members and will let you know who the new

members will be after our next meeting. Our summer

garden is underway thanks to all the volunteers who have

been working on this. Please let us know if you would like

to help out with this through the summer. Tractor Supply

generously donated a $200 gift card to us to use on

supplies. That was greatly appreciated! As always, the

Reverse Raffle was a huge success and a lot of fun! Many

thanks to all who helped out with that! Don’t forget to

start gathering items you would like to donate to our

annual rummage sale, which will be held July 12, 2018

through July 14, 2018. Also be sure to mark your calendar

to not only join us at the festival, but sign up to work. The

festival will be held on July 27th and 28th this year. Glad to

see we are finally into spring now and we hope all of you

are able to enjoy this beautiful season and remember to

thank God for all that He gives us!

A big thank-you to all those that contributed to the recent

Postal Workers Food Drive and our Food

Pantry Team that worked diligently to sort

well over 1,500 items and restock our nearly

depleted shelves. It was a much needed

boost that will allow us to continue our

ministry of providing for the needy in our

area. Thanks again!!!

Living Stewardship Now The love relationship that exists among the Persons of the Holy

Trinity is both intense and intimate. As beautiful as this teaching

is, it demonstrates how human language really pales in trying to

capture the essence of God. The Father brings us to the

creative, powerful, yet gently meticulous part of God who has

brought mountains and hills into being, as well as each of his

children. Still the Father is more than this. The Son

demonstrates the unconditional love of God filled with endless

mercy and compassion. This love really understands the journey

of the marginalized and the poor and has no use for created

powers and structures that alienate and hurt people. But the

Son is even more than this. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God

who teaches wisdom and brings understanding, who governs the

seasons and discerns the thoughts of human hearts. Yet the

Holy Spirit is still more than this. We worship a God who is

beyond and also intimately bonded to all that he has made,

without whom nothing could be sustained in being. Praise the

Holy Trinity! Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Eucharistic Adoration is held every Wednesday from

7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in our Chapel. Everyone is

welcome. “The greatest power in God is His free

will. The greatest power in man is his free will.

This is power to do evil and power to do good.

Mary’s voluntary acceptance of God’s will made

the Incarnation and thus, the Holy Eucharist,

possible. Mary used free will. Mary chose to do what was

more pleasing to God.” (Fr. John Hardon, S.J.) Today we

have the same free will to chose what is more pleasing to

God. Please consider an hour of Adoration. Come.

SCRIPTURE STUDY—ARE YOU PREPARED

FOR SUNDAY MASS?

All Saints Adult Faith Formation Team (AFF) hosts a weekly

group session to prepare for Sunday Liturgy. For these

sessions, we use a variety of resources to

meditate more deeply on the Sunday

readings. Please join us on Tuesday evenings at

6:30 p.m. (usually in the Steinbauer Community

Room—SCR). Some of these resources can also be

used by individuals at home. For prayerful preparation at

home during the week before Sunday Mass, visit

liturgy.slu.edu. Reflecting on the spirituality of the scriptures

before Mass can have a great impact on hearing the Word

proclaimed on Sunday. For information on the free website

from The Center for Liturgy at Saint Louis University, pick up

a flyer in the magazine rack.

CALLING ANYONE TALENTED WITH

A NEEDLE AND THREAD!

All Saints schoolchildren will be wearing updated uniforms in

the fall. The outgoing uniforms will be

donated to under resourced schools in

Namibia with the help of the Peace

Corps. We are accepting donations of

clean plaid skirts and jumpers as well

as clean blue collared shirts. Some

items may need simple repairs before going to a new life in

Africa. If you have old uniforms or think you might be able

to help, please contact Renee Timbrook at 419-944-7218.

PARISH RELIGION EDUCATION PROGRAM (PREP)

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD (CGS)

It is time to register for the 2018-2019 religious education

beginning with 8:30 a.m. Mass followed by

a time of learning until 10:45 a.m. Children

in Kindergarten and Grade 1 meet on

Tuesdays from 4:30—6 p.m. and experience

the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)

in the atrium. To register your child/ren please fill out the

blue registration form that can be found in the magazine

rack, and return to the Parish Office. Deadline for early

FIRST FRIDAY CELEBRATION

Please join the Seniors of All Saints for the

First Friday Mass on June 1 at 8:15 a.m. As

always it will be followed by coffee and

donuts for the seniors in the Steinbauer

Community Room. This occasion has proven

to be a wonderful assemblage of wit, wisdom

and white hair (not for all, that is). At any rate join us for a

delightful time. All are welcome!

SENIOR MINISTRY ANNUAL RETREAT

On Thursday, June 14, your Senior Ministry will assemble at

W. W. Knight's Preserve on White Road for our annual

Retreat. This year our Retreat Master is Rev. Jeff

Walker! The topic of the day is our two most

frequented Sacraments – The Holy Eucharist, and

the Rite of Confession – viewed through the lens

of our more “experienced” eyes. As we age, we

do see things from a slightly different perspective.

This could be the opportunity to meet Jesus during this

season of our lives in a new and deeper way. Come and

take this opportunity to understand, acknowledge, and

appreciate these changes. More information to follow!

OLIVE WOOD CARVINGS BY

BEHTHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES

We are proud to introduce ourselves as the “Bethlehem

Christian Families”, from the Holy Land. We have come to the

United States representing the Christian wood carvers of

Bethlehem that rely on the tourism to support their families.

Due to the bad situation and the interruption of the tourist

trade, 500 families of the Holy Land are in danger of having to

leave their homes in search of work. Our mission is to bring

and sell the Olive Wood Carvings to Catholic Churches in the

United States to help the Christian families remain in their

homes and support their families. These Christians who make

their livelihood through the selling of their hand carved Olive

Wood religious items are depending on us to bring these

beautiful carvings, such as, Nativity Scenes, Crucifixes, Picture

of the Last Supper, and several other religious items to you.

Please look over these carvings that are available to you

NEXT weekend of June 2 and 3, 2018, and help support this

self-help project that enables to keep the Christians present in

the Holy Land. Your help and understanding in this crucial

matter is greatly appreciated.

GOSPEL MEDITATION ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

Happy Trinity Sunday! In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus

declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go

therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them

in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy

Spirit."

When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological

words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The

immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within

themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between

Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when

Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy

Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word

oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management." The

economic Trinity is our three-Personed God's relationship

with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing

relationship with us.

Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to

imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with

one another in community. However, this is not limited only

to those close to us, though that's where love often starts.

We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when

we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. "Go

therefore ?"

Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to

follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the

margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This

could be a distant relative, the residents of your local

homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door!

When we love well, we create something beautiful-a

relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This

Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships

in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How

well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you

creating something beautiful?
