Reese takes a wish trip fit for a queen Reese is five years old and dreamed of meeting Queen Elsa. Living with a congenital cardiac condition, Reese wished for a trip to Walt Disney World® Resort so she could spend some one-on-one time with Elsa, ride the teacups, and enjoy all the Disney fun she and her family could squeeze in. With a personal invitation from the Queen herself, Reese and her family learned that her wish was coming true!

Before all of that excitement, a big part of Reese’s wish journey happened before she even left home.

Locally-owned businesses in the Town of Barrhead contributed to a scavenger hunt for Reese. She went from place to place collecting balloons, stuffed animals, flowers, jewelry, and even a giant bunny cookie and a large canvas print of Olaf!

The generous donations and the scavenger hunt created so much excitement around the upcoming wish trip, helping to make Reese’s wish experience distinctive and unique — just like Reese!

The highlight of the trip for Reese was Splash Mountain and — of course — meeting Queen Elsa.

BAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE: Wishful Baking Week 2017 Did someone say cookies? Wishful Baking Week combines two magical things: sweet treats and granting wishes. You can help impact the lives of very deserving children by baking your favourite treat and sharing it with your school, company, or community group.

How it works:

• Sign up to host a bake sale • Let your team, school, friends, community

or coworkers know that you are hosting your Wishful Baking event during the week of October 2-6, 2017

• Organize your bakers/buyers and let them know when and where the event is, as well as what to bring

Your event can be as simple or elaborate as you choose — host a traditional bake sale in your school’s cafeteria, plan an elegant high tea and treats sale, or get your coworkers together to host a cupcake bake off. The theme is up to you!

All the funds raised during Wishful Baking Week will go towards granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Now what could be sweeter than that?

Visit wishfulbakingweek.com to receive updates and get more information.

CALENDAR OF WISHESLast December, Abbey Glen Park in downtown Edmonton was transformed into a whimsical Winter Wish Square featuring a larger-than-life advent calendar — the Calendar of Wishes. Each day, Edmonton’s community gathered (often in the freezing cold!) to reveal a unique wish story behind every calendar door.

We are so grateful to those who granted wishes with us last year. We are looking forward to bringing a new, creative calendar to life once again in December 2017. Together, the calendar raised over $70,000 and celebrated 24 unique wishes.

Brandt takes a bite out of the Big Apple Brandt is a charming eight-year-old boy living with a congenital cardiac condition. He likes soccer, swimming, biking and Nerf guns, and most of all, the Home Alone movies. Brandt dreamed of travelling to New York City where he could see the sites — just like Kevin McAllister

— only Brandt would take his family too!

Brandt’s wish finally came true when he and his family took a flight to New York City. They saw the New York Mets at Citi Field, visited the Central Park Zoo and the Statue of Liberty, and toured through the city in a limo. Brandt’s favorite part of his wish trip was visiting the Microsoft Store on Fifth Avenue. He and his brother enjoyed some live gaming (NHL Hockey!), and Brandt was given an Xbox One to take home.

“Brandt’s wish came true in every aspect. It brought joy to the whole family to be there to celebrate his wish.”

‘FUNRAISE’ WITH US BY HOSTING AN EVENT! You can make wishes come true by planning an event. Getting started is simple: 1. Access the Host an Event guide from our website 2. Pick the type of event you’d like to host

3. Apply to Make-A-Wish® for approval 4. Plan the event 5. Donate funds raised Some examples of events you can host include: a golf tournament, a birthday party where donations are received in lieu of gifts, a bake sale, and much more. The sky’s the limit!

Call Heather at 780-444-9474 for more information on planning your fundraising event.
