Message From the President's Desk!

Dear Esteemed Members Of SSBASICC,

As we started off with the theme “SILENT, SRUPULOUS and SCHOLARLY SURGEON” with the monthly clinical mee�ngs in January and February, we were faced with the most unexpected challenge of COVID PANDEMIC and the whole world came to a stands�ll. As we relaxed for a few days we realized that we are dealing with an Emergency situa�on, decided that the “THE SHOW MUST GO ON” and met on a virtual pla�orm. The vibrant EC welcomed the idea of conduc�ng Monthly clinical mee�ngs on a virtual pla�orm. With the wholehearted support and coopera�on from the Ins�tu�on heads, the MCMs were conducted successfully and was appreciated by the members. it was a pleasure to head and guide this pres�gious organiza�on as everyone worked as a single team with innova�ve ideas from all the members. We organized CMEs on interes�ng topics. Surgeon's day was celebrated by honouring the senior surgeons. The Hanumaiah Memorial CSEP including the state level quiz was conducted on a virtual pla�orm for the first �me. We take pride in introducing OSCE by the Royal College of Surgeons to CSEP, E newsle�er “SUSHRUTHA” and YOUTUBE channel with the help of the ever enthusias�c office bearers. I would like to place on record the tremendous contribu�on made by the office bearers, execu�ve commi�ee members inspite of their du�es as covid warriors and the invited members as one single team working hand in hand to upli� the standards of scien�fic material.

My sincere thanks to the en�re team, Heads and other faculty members of the hos�ng ins�tu�ons and all the esteemed members of this reputed associa�on. My hear�elt thanks to the postgraduate students who were so enthusias�c to par�cipate in the clinical mee�ngs. It was a successful year striving to meet the objec�ves of SSBASICC though it was very challenging. I thank the sponsors for providing virtual pla�orm for the MCMs as well as CSEP 2020 I wish you all a very Happy New year 2021 and wish the incoming President Dr Venkatachala K and his team a very successful tenure.

Dear Member,

At the outset, I would like to thank all the members of the Surgical Society of Bangalore for the trust and support bestowed on me and for giving me an opportunity to serve the Society as President. I feel tremendously honoured to be a part of this esteemed Society. I have served this Society in various capaci�es as EC member and Hon. Secretary and now, it's a pres�gious opportunity to serve as President for the year 2021. I promise to deliver my best and contribute for the be�erment of the Society and also uphold the tradi�ons le� by my predecessors. I have plans to introduce new programs and ac�vi�es which will benefit all the members and the budding surgeons. I would request complete support and co opera�on from each and every member to take SSBASICC to new heights. Season's Gree�ngs and Happy New Year - 2021 to one and all.

We acknowledge with sincere thanks all the help of honorable members, seniors, mentors advisors and friends during the LAST 12 MONTHS tenure in successfully, sa�sfactorily and gracefully. We started the year with first execu�ve commi�ee mee�ng (Execu�ve Commi�ee Mee�ng) on 7 January 2020 along with senior surgeons and all the heads of the Ins�tutes taking part in the academic ac�vi�es of the society, which was well a�ended and work was carried forward keeping in mind all the sugges�ons. It was unanimously agreed to in�mate the members about the ac�vi�es electronically by email, Whatsapp message and on the website. We formed various Whatsapp Groups involving EC members and Monthly Clinical Mee�ngs, Heads of the Surgery and progress was reviewed in the subsequent EC mee�ngs so as to remain efficient.

We also formed sub commi�ees for various part of our ac�vi�es and was reviewed by E C every month

From this year we started e posters presenta�on during the Monthly Clinical Mee�ngs to promote go green and healthy environment from Surgeons of Bengaluru. This move was appreciated and accepted by all the Hos�ng Ins�tu�ons.( Upto pre covid �me)

The monthly clinical mee�ngs (MCM) were held at the central loca�on up to February 2020, API Bhavan. Manipal Hospital, Command hospital, Private Surgeons of Bangalore / Corporate Hospitals, Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College and Vydehi Ins�tute of Medical Sciences, Sagar Hospital – Jayanagar –Bengaluru. St Johns MCH, ESIC MC PGIMSR, Rajarajeswari MCH Monthly clinical Mee�ngs were held on line due to COVID 19 pandemic. In all MCM post graduate teaching sessions were conducted well on �me. The postgraduates of Surgery from various ins�tu�ons ac�vely par�cipated online. This was followed by e poster presenta�on and free paper presenta�ons. The clinical mee�ngs were excellent with quality in the scien�fic papers and well a�ended by senior members as well as consultants from various teaching and non teaching hospitals on a virtual pla�orm. Guidelines were given for the presenta�ons and feedback was obtained on google forms from the audience to analyse the quality and further improve on the quality of e posters and e-scien�fic papers.

SECRETARY'S REPORT JANUARY 2020 to DECEMBER 2020

The Regular Hos�ng Ins�tu�ons who were unable to host the Mee�ng due to covid 19 duty were BMCRI ( Sept ), KIMS ( Oct), & MRSMCH ( Nov) 2020. During these months we organized CME on Carcinoma Breast, ERAS and The mystery of Pandora box, on interes�ng abdominal cases.

We thank Zydus Corza for all their help in providing Virtual Pla�orm Support.

SSBASICC SUB COMMITTEE MEMBERS 2020 was formed, E C members took responsibility in various areas of our ac�vi�es in their given tasks.

The society was associated with many other programs;

SSBASICC in Associa�on with IMA Chikkaballapur conducted Hernia camp on 5th January 2020 endorsed by KSC ASI.

Hernia Camp Summary: 15 cases of hernia - inguinal, umbilical and congenital inguinal hernia were operated on 5 Jan 2020 at 5 hospitals and nursing homes in Chickaballapur by surgeons from Bengaluru & Chickaballapur. Surgeries were done free of cost, including inves�ga�ons, mesh, suture materials, drugs and disposables. Surgeries went on well, periopera�ve and postopera�ve period was uneven�ul. The IMA Chickaballapur thanked SSBASICC and the surgeons of Bengaluru for the services rendered.

CME on Postopera�ve care a�er GI and Pancrea�c surgeries: Focus on Long term management by Dr. Shailesh Shrikhande, MS (Mumbai), MD (Heidelberg), FRCS (Hon, London) this cme was highly appreciated by Senior surgeons and Postgraduates in surgery a�ended this program at Sheraton Grand.

COVID 19 We raised funds of around Rs 3 lakhs to help the frontline healthcare professionals for COVID 19, We have donated PPEs each to Bangalore Medical college & RI, Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital & 90 PPEs to BBMP REFERRAL HOSPITAL who were opera�ng COVID posi�ve surgical cases

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY - Surgical Society of Bangalore ASICC presented half an hour video dedicated to all surgeons on the importance of Pranayama and also demonstrated the same through the h�ps://www.mediknit.org/video/ssb/simple-health-�ps-for-a-healthy-lungs-pranyama.

Web Based Workshop on Evidence Based SurgerySURGICAL SOCIETY OF BANGALORE ASI CTY BRANCH conducted Web Based Workshop on Evidence Based Surgery In Associa�on with Karnataka State Chapter of ASI, from 14 – 21 June 2020. Dr K Lakshman was Course Director for the Program.

The CSEP inaugura�on was done on 23RD November 2020 at 5-00pm by Dr Raghuram P – President ASI. Inaugural func�on was graced by the guest of Honour Dr Soppimath S S, Chairman KSCASI.

a). DR. NITYANANDA SHETTY ENDOWMENT MEMORIAL LECTURE: The lecture was delivered on Monday 23rd November at 7-30pm by Dr. C S Rajan, Senior Consultant Surgeon, Bengaluru on Thoracic Tips & Truths.

b).DR. K.S. SHEKAR STATE LEVEL QUIZ: Dr. K.S. Shekar state level quiz was conducted by Dr. C.S. Rajan, 18th year in a row with the help of Dr. Gurushanthappa, Dr Manish Joshi & Dr Niranjan P, Dr. Sendhil Rajan and Dr Hosni Mubarak Khan and also helped as quiz masters for the KSCASI SQ 2020 on 25th Nov 2020.

c).Our apprecia�on and special thanks to Dr C S Rajan for conduc�ng this exemplary quiz 18 years in a row.The preliminary round was held on the same day and final was held from 6-45pm to 8-00pm. The quiz program was a�ended by Dr. SOPPIMATH, Chairman- KSCASI, Dr.DIVAKAR GADDI, Hon Sec ASI, Dr.Kalaivani V - President SSBASICC, Dr.Venkatesh K L - Hon Secretary SSBASICC.

The anchors and screen managers, internal and external faculty ec members Dr lakshman Dr Nishanth, Dr Hosni Mubarak khan, Dr Niranjan guided the PGs during clinical sessions on all the days.(The external faculty of eminent surgeons and post graduate examiners from surrounding states and from within the state were evalua�ng the PG presenta�ons. Nearly _25 exam oriented prac�cal clinical cases were presented by the PG students with PPTs and videos of clinical demonstra�ons. Nearly 13 ins�tutes/ Hospitals of Bengaluru along with the private surgeons of Bengaluru were involved in this clinical case presenta�ons.Dr Sudhir Kale from ASTER CMI Discussed Radiology for PGs, Post opera�ve rouds , an interac�ve session br Dr Arun from St Martha's hospital and discussion on surgical specimens by Dr Nand Kishore Alva from Ramaiah Medical College. The en�re CSEP, specialist lectures, clinical presenta�on and discussion, interac�ve sessions of various special�es, were rated as Good /Excellent by the delegates.
