Project Purpose & Need Valley Bridge / Concrete Deck Overlay The Valley Bridge was initially constructed in 1967 and the concrete deck was replaced between 1988 and 1989. The decks were widened as part of the Marquette Interchange project completed in 2008. A significant portion of the bridge was overlaid in 2013. This project will overlay the northern units at the junction of the Marquette Interchange fly over ramps to complete the planned maintenance on the structure.

Marquette Interchange Structures / Polymer Overlay The work scheduled as part of this project is routine maintenance and was anticipated when the interchange was reconstructed. This maintenance will ensure that the bridges will last the 75-year life anticipated during design.

Traffic Impacts Mid Summer – Fall ’17 / Stage 1 Mid Summer and Fall ‘17 planned work includes polymer overlays within the Marquette Interchange, along with spot painting of steel girders and roadway lighting replacement. Night time and off-peak daytime ramp closures will occur during this stage. Ramps will not all be closed simultaneously; detours will be posted. Spring ’18 / Stage 2A Spring ’18 planned work includes the concrete deck overlay on portions of the Valley Bridge. This work requires long term closures of the EB I-94 to SB I-43, WB I-794 to SB I-43/94 and NB I-43/94 to EB I-794 system ramps within the Marquette Interchange. Primary and secondary detours will be signed for the long term closures. Late Spring ‘18 / Stage 2B Late Spring ’18 planned work continues on the concrete deck overlay of the Valley Bridge. This work requires long term closures of the EB I-94 to SB I-43 and NB I-43/94 to WB I-94 system ramps within the Marquette interchange. Primary and secondary detours will be signed for the long term closures. Summer 18 / Stage 3 Summer ’18 planned work finishes the concrete deck overlay on the Valley Bridge. This work will occur on the inside lanes and will require closure of the EB I-94 to SB I-43/94 system ramp within the Marquette interchange.

I-43 will be reduced to 2 through travel lanes in both the northbound andsouthbound directions on the Valley High Rise Bridge for all work planned for2018.
