Wire rope clips are used on wire ropes for constructing loops. Dulimex B.V. supplies wire rope clips Type 741 and EN 13411-5 Type A. When applying wire rope clips, the following important points of interest need to be considered:

f When selecting the dimension, ensure a correct combination of wire rope clip and wire rope.

f Before use, check if the wire rope clip is free of nicks, grooves or cracks.

f Do not repair or deform the wire rope clip by welding, heating or bending; this may affect its performance.

WIRE ROPE CLIPS TYPE 741 & EN 13411 TYPE A

Wire rope clips, similar to DIN 741The standardisation for the wire rope clips DIN 741 has officially lapsed. This has resulted in a wide variation of product qualities coming into existence. Dulimex B.V. has opted to maintain an assortment of high-quality products and as such still supplies wire rope clips in compliance with the former DIN 741 standard. This results in a higher level of reliability and minimises the chan-ces of problems during assembly or use.

The high product quality level of DX wire rope clips is a result of the manufacturing process and is manifested in the hardness and toughness of the bridge. Wire rope clips similar to DIN 741 are not suitable for safety applications.

Wire rope clips, similar to EN 13411 Type AWire rope clips EN 13411-5 Type A may be used for static loads and one-time lifting purposes. Safety factors should always be considered and its intended application must also be assessed by an expert. Wire rope clips EN 13411-5 Type A cannot be used for lifting applications or activities involving propulsion.

Regular inspectionDuring assembly and prior to the wire rope being used, the nuts have to be retightened. In the beginning this should be done regularly and later periodically every 3 or 6 months. Wire rope clips are affected by wear, weather conditions, overload, etc. It is a requirement that the products are regularly inspected according to the safety standards applicable in the country where they are used. Inspection must take place at least every 6 months and even more frequently when the products are used in severe operating circumstances!

NOTE! Type 741 wire rope clips are not suitable for safety applications! Do not use EN 13411-5 Type A wire rope clips for lifting appli-cations or activities involving propulsion!

Fitting wire rope clipsFit the wire rope clip onto the wire rope as shown in the picture below.

f Place the U-bolt of the wire rope clip on the dead end (the tail) of the wire rope.

f The bridge of the wire rope clip must always be fitted onto the load-bearing part of the rope.

f Ensure that the length of the wire rope at the dead end is enough to be able to place the minimum number of clips.

f The first (1) wire rope clip must be positioned one bridge width (B) from the dead end.

f The second (2) wire rope clip must be placed directly against the thimble in such a way that the outer wires of the rope cannot be damaged during tightening.

f The next clips (3) must be placed on the rope in such a way that the distance between the bridges is at least 1½ times the bridge width (B) up to a maximum of 3 times the bridge width.
