Winter/Spring 2017

Forewords from the Head Dear DoCS:

After walking around the buildings today on my “circle walk”, I remembered once again why I love North Carolina. It was a picture perfect day. We have lots to be grateful for in our Department: another successful school year, research successes, a clinic that continues to hum along and ice cream at the End-of-the-Year Celebration that wasn’t rock hard solid.

We added new faculty (see Ashley’s list below) and we have even more coming soon. Dentistry and ECC will be fully staffed! We have had some nibbles in our search for a new soft Tissue surgeon. I’ve heard many plans for implementing techniques that follow the guidelines in “Make it Stick”. Tophat has been approved as the official audience response system for the University, so our department is ahead of the game as clickers go away. I know those of you who have suffered flooding and worse during the renovations of the third floor labs can’t wait to see the construction finished. For those who are displaced, moving day is near! The Clinical Studies Core is rebuilding under Eleanor Hawkins’ steady hand and is busy, busy, busy. The MRI at CMAST has actually produced readable images due to Michael Stoskopf’s faith and persistence. Metabolomics, here we come. On the clinical side, I wish you a manageable July 4th. I will try to get my neighbors to crate their dogs during the fireworks so you won’t have to see me dragging in a Trinity Rd/I 440 casualty. Last year was way too close for my comfort, with both of their dogs leaping the fence during the predictable 9 pm boom fest. I want to publically thank Ashley for all her hard work for the department. She will stay on as a temp to get us through dossier building, but then she has a little girl coming, who will need tending. Take time to enjoy the outdoors this summer, Lizette
