Special Members-Only Focus Group SessionsCMA Focus Group Sessions are open to CMA Members only.

8:15 am - Documents and Forms Focus Group10:00 am Moderated by Joffrey Long, President, Southwest Mortgage Are your documents and forms perfect? Whose are? Join Joffrey Long in Costa Mesa for the new DOCUMENTS

AND FORMS Focus Group. Moderators will lead round table discussions on how we can improve the forms and documents we use in our business. Not a ‘sit and take notes’ session, you will be joining industry leaders, attorneys, and fellow members to recreate forms, possibly saving money in the process. Start now by making a list of forms you’d like to improve, along with ideas on how they could be made better.

10:00 am - 10:15 am 15 Minute Break

10:15 am - Commercial Lending Focus Group12:00 pm Paul Elis, President, PMB Capital, Inc.; and Selected Panelists How much do you understand about the terms of the leases you review in your commercial underwriting?

Most lenders aren’t experts in the “Constitution” of a commercial property: the leases. How a lease is written affects property costs, management, the overall health of the project and what you wind up with if you have to foreclose. If you lend on commercial properties, you will want to understand these critical concepts. Join Paul Elis in kicking off this new Commercial Lending Focus Group!

1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Thursday and All Day Friday are Open to All Attendees.

1:00 pm - Business Purpose Loans – Staying Safe2:30 pm Phillip Adleson, Esq., CMA Corporate General Counsel; Lori Randich, CMA Education Chair; and Joffrey

Long, President, Southwest Mortgage Business purpose? Yes. Potential problems? Yes! Whether loaning to individuals or ‘exempt’ entities, it’s easy

to make mistakes with business purpose loans. Errors in underwriting can lead to severe penalties. The loan purpose you relied upon when making a loan can get twisted around by a regulator or a skilled plaintiff’s attorney. Phil Adleson, Joffrey Long and Lori Randich will provide valuable ‘in the trenches’ advice on avoiding future problems. Many brokers are getting this wrong. Don’t be one of them.

2:30 pm - 3:00 pm 30 Minute Networking Break

3:00 pm - Make Your Voice Heard! CMA’s Legislative Day!3:30 pm Mark Forbes, CMA President, Michael Belote and Michael Arnold, CMA Legislative Advocates Come learn what all the Fun is about! CMA will be launching its first ever Legislative Day this year with a CMA

visit to our state capital to meet with our legislators. Take your political action to the Next Level! Help to put the power of your association into advancing fair and reasonable legislative goals that will benefit investors and borrowers.

3:30 pm - Protecting The Investment: Using Receiverships Effectively5:00 pm James Baron, President, and Kimberly Wilcox, Sr. Receiver Associate, Receiver’s Incorporated; Benjamin

Levinson, Esq., Law Office of Benjamin R. Levinson; Moderated by Michael Burwell, President, Redwood Mortgage

When used properly, a receivership can be an effective tool in resolving loan defaults and delinquencies, collecting rents, and managing a difficult property. When used brilliantly, they can possibly make you money! This team of experts will discuss how and when to use a receivership to protect the investment, your investors, and yourself. Strategies and specific cases will be showcased. Be ready for the next downturn – or your next bad loan – and arm yourself with the information you need to get through it.
