§ Check radiator fluid. Check & top off the windshield washer fluid.
§ Check the tire pressure because it changes in cold weather.
§ To minimize condensation, keep your gas tank at least 1/3 – 1/2 full.
§ Be good to your battery by turning OFF all accessories & lights before starting the car.
§ To allow fluids to circulate, let the engine run for 30 seconds or more before you drive.
§ Lift wiper blades & arms off the glass so they won’t freeze to the windshield or place newspaper under the wiper blades, so that they won’t stick.
§ Did your door lock freeze? Heat the key with a match. A lock deicer is also available at most auto parts, hardware stores, & locksmiths.
§ Is your door frozen shut? Prevent this by lightly wiping silicone on the rubber door seals. Be sure to wipe off excess & overspray.
§ Is your windshield fogging up quickly? Turn OFF the front defroster & set the heat control to the vent or floor setting before turning off & exiting the car. This will slow down the fogging up of the car because cold air entering the car won’t enter onto the warm windshield. You should also turn off the fan.
§ Items to have in your car during the winter: cell phone, working flashlight, ice scraper, emergency reflective triangle or flare, blanket, & gloves.

Let it Snow! The weather outside is frightful…
We’ll help your winter drive be more delightful!
§ Do you have the correct tires for winter driving? Snow tires have large void areas in the tread; this allows them to grip snow better than regular tires. All-weather tires, also referred to as all-season tires, combine a quieter ride with better snow traction.

Snow Driving Tips
§ Gently scrape off snow if you can’t see out the windshield, § To avoid scratching the vehicle paint, avoid scraping or
brushing it off – instead, get most of it off and let the car warm up and melt the rest.
§ Accelerate slowly and avoid quick or jack-rabbit starts. § Gently tap the brakes to slow down & anticipate your
stops by lifting off the gas pedal. Downshift if you can with the automatic or manual transmission.
§ If you have to brake hard, just push down and hold so the anti-lock brakes kick in – don’t pump. Steer into the skid if you can.
§ Avoid accelerating while turning. § Look for snow build-up around the tires.
