Accreditation Visit Overview

• HLC Peer Review Team of 5 was on campus February 6th and 7th.

• This review occurs every 8 years.

• Formed to address growing concerns around our country and how our campus is affected.

Michigan Community College Association (MCCA)

• Presidents and Trustees from the other 27 community colleges across Michigan will be on campus.

• March 23rd in the evening and March 24th 8:00am-3:00pm.

Oasis Center

• A restful and restorative venue designed to support and sustain the individual coming for emotional care and sustenance.

• Provide services for students and employees needing a range of confidential emotional support.

• Anticipate two full time mental health professionals on site.

• Anticipated date of open is fall 2018.

• Based on the four elements of earth, air, water and fire.

• Funded by external sources.

Beltway Completion• Completion of

• Fitness Trail – will include integrated exercise stations.

Colleague Database Migration to SQL Server

• The enterprise management system Colleague will be taken down for a 5 day outage from February 28th at 6PM until March 6th at 6AM.

• Benefits of upgrade: additional reporting capabilities, better integration with 3rd party systems, enhance security and easier maintenance.

• Complete outages: Colleague, e-services, JetStream, FACTS, Webi, FA~Link – FA availability in bookstore and mobile.

Potter Center Remodel Project• Weatherwax Foundation Grant awarded of

$200,000 – the College must provide $267,000

• Funding must be committed by June 30, 2017

• Project will include remodel of stairway, carpeting, ceiling, furniture and lobby are.

International UpdatesEnglish Language Institute (ELI):

• 8 students enrolled for winter.

• Successful first semester of the new 5 level program which included members of the community as well as international students. Community members included students from Iran, Iraq, Ghana, Guinea and China.

International Student Enrollment:

• 50 + students enrolled for winter.

• Countries represented include: United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, India, Iran, Nepal, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Kenya, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Brazil, Netherlands, England, Ghana, Gambia, Cameroon, Saint Lucia, Singapore, Venezuela, Egypt, and Uzbekistan

Financial Aid• Awarding began 2/1/17.

• Financial Aid is happy to work with classes or special student populations regarding financial aid/financial literacy topics. Reach out to Andy Spohn!

• Default management steering committee -campus wide initiative working together to further lower our cohort default rate.

• Projection for current cohort default rate is under 20%.

• Retained 70% of our population.

• 90% of our students were in good academic standing for the 15-16 year.

• We persisted 81% of TRiO student from 16/FL to 17/WN.

Center for Student Success

• Visits are up 61% from one year ago Hours spent in CSS are up 84% from 16WN to 17WN.

• Even from just this 16FL to 17WN, visits are already up 3% and hours spent in CSS are up 10%.

Supplemental Instruction Program• While SI’s role in the Math department will stay strong, SI will

soon expand into other disciplines once again.

• Will be located in the former exercise room in the Hangar.

• Will be proactive in using CCTV to monitor hot spots (rather than reactive with cameras).

Lifeways Specialist

• Karen Schmitt is the new mental health specialist in the JC Health Clinic. Karen has a BSW from Spring Arbor University and a MSW from Eastern Michigan University.

• Her hours in the Health Clinic are Tuesday from 10am-2pm and Wednesday from 1pm to 5pm.

having tools necessary for the job, ability to propose new ways of doing the job, etc.

• The survey should only take 15-20 minutes.

• The results will not only be benchmarked but the results will be reviewed by Workforce Focus and will drive an action plan as done in the past.
