Munson has seen an increase in students with flu-like symptoms and strep throat this week. Please follow the below guidelines when sending your child to school:
Il lness Guidelines: Please help the spread of germs at Munson by following these
recommendations:
1. If a student has a temperature of 100.0 F or higher and/or is experiencing influenza-like
symptoms, he/she should stay home from school until symptom/fever free for 24 hours.
Please do not give your child medication for a fever and send him/her to school. Most
often the fevers return around lunch time and they will be sent home if their temperature
is 100.0 F or higher.
2. Common symptoms of flu are: Fever of 100.0 F or higher, headache, fatigue, cough, sore
throat, body aches, runny or stuffy nose, diarrhea and vomiting.
3. Promote good hygiene at home. Encourage good "respirat ory et iquet t e" by having
your child cough and sneeze into his/her sleeve, not into the hand. Teach your child not to
touch their eyes, nose, or mouth, since this is the most probable way that germs enter the
body. Frequent hand washing with soap and water.
4. Have a back up plan in place for child care in the event your child must be sent home.
We do not have the space to hold more than one child at a time with flu symptoms.
Please have your children wash their hands as soon as they get home from school.
Remember, there are greater than 400 students at Munson. Frequent hand washing is the
most effective way to prevent spreading of disease.
* Please Note: If your child comes down with a contagious disease such as strep throat,
chicken pox, or pink eye, flu, notify the school of the specific disease he/she is diagnosed
with. We have students at Munson with compromised immune systems, and this will help
us keep them healthy.
