For those students, ages 9-18 who haven’t filled out their 2016-2017enrollment form yet, you only have until December 23 rd to join and get in on the fun. There will be games, a dance and lots of other exiting experiences you won’t want to miss out on! A local volunteer will be needed to chaperone the Washington County delegation. This is a fun filled three day conference held at the Kentucky Leadership center in Jabez, KY (near Somerset) 6th, 7th and 8th graders from across the state will gather in a lodge style setting to learn leadership, take workshops and have some serious fun! There will be games, a dance and lots of other exiting experiences you won’t want to miss out on! A local volunteer will be needed to chaperone the Washington County delegation. The deadline to register will be February 14th. Adult volunteers needed to chaperone.

The registration fee for the Country Ham project is $60 for the two hams a member will cure. The 4-Her must also give a speech at the KY State Fair while the hams are being judged. For an application for the Country Ham project, contact the Washington County Extension Office. Applications are due to the extension office by December 2nd.

PROJECT CLUB MEETINGS

It’s time to get involved in one of the many 4-H project clubs that 4-H offers. Here is a listing of upcoming meetings for December. Many will have deadlines for membership.

Hooves & Horns 4-H Club – learn about all species of livestock and have the opportunity to participate in livestock judging and other related activities. The next meeting will be December 6th,

6:30 p.m. at the home of Craig and Laura Arnold. Contact the extension office for complete details and directions.

Sharpshooters 4-H Club – learn safety rules and environmental stewardship when you join the Sharpshooters Club. The final membership meeting is set for Tuesday, November 29th , 6:30 p.m. at

the extension office. Membership paperwork will be accepted through the December 23rd, so don’t miss out. Each family should bring a snack food to share. Check out the photos from this year’s awards night that took place earlier this fall.

Young Riders 4-H Club – both horse and horseless club activities are offered year around. Club meetings are held the third Monday of each month. The December club meeting will be Monday,

December 16th, 6:30 p.m. at the extension office. Each 4-H club member should bring a $10 horse related gift to exchange and a snack food to share. Club members also have plans to do several field trips in December so contact the extension office for complete information.

Spurs & Furs 4-H Club – learn about rabbits and poultry when you join the Spurs & Furs Club. The club always meets on the third Tuesday of each month. The December meeting will be Tuesday,

December 20th, 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Contact the extension office for complete details.

Food Stars 4-H Club – Advanced lessons will begin in January. Members should attend the Holiday Fun Workshop December 13th!!

Best Sew-er’s in Town 4-H Club – Starting in January, the members will be working on their sewing projects they will model in the 4-H Fashion Revue coming up in the spring. The first club meeting is

January 14th.

UPCOMING CLUBS AND PROJECT WORKSHOPS Scheduled for after the first of the year will be Cake Decorating, 4-H Poetry Contest and the first meeting of the 4-H Floral and Gardening Club. Keep watching for details and dates.

Snickerdoodle Cookies Sandra Bastin, Extension Specialist, Food and Nutrition, Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in Super Star Chef Kneads a Little Dough

Yield: 4 dozen cookies Ingredients 1 ½ cups sugar ¾ cup butter, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 eggs 2 cups all-purpose flour 1. Preheat the oven to 400o F. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 ½ cups sugar and butter; beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; beat well. 3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt together; mix until well blended. Slowly add the

flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture until well mixed. 4. Cover the bowl of dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for about an hour. 5. Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Shape dough into ½” balls. 6. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Roll dough in this mixture and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. 7. Bake at 400o F for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove cookies from the cookie sheets to wire racks to cool. For the Fair: After the cookies have completely cooled, choose three cookies that are the same size. Place the cookies on a disposable plate. Place the plate in a re-closable zip-type plastic bag.
