Henderson Health Care is now offering the Panorama Prenatal Screen. This test is a non-invasive DNA screening that can tell you important information about your pregnancy, as early as 10 weeks of gestation. With Panorama, you can find out if your baby is at risk for chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, and all that’s required is a sample of your blood. If you so choose, you may also find out the gender of your baby. How does the Panorama prenatal screen work? During pregnancy, some of the DNA for the baby crosses into mom’s bloodstream. DNA is organized in structures known as chromosomes, which carry the baby’s genetic information. Panorama uses a blood sample from the mother to analyze the baby’s DNA for certain chromosomal conditions that could affect the baby’s health. Panorama is a non-invasive prenatal test. This means that Panorama is safe for you and your baby. To have the test done, your healthcare provider just draws a sample of blood from your arm. The sample is then sent to a lab for processing. The results will be returned to your physician within 7-10 days. What kind of results will I get from the Panorama screening test? • Low-Risk results: A low risk result means the chance that your baby has one of the chromosome conditions Panorama screens for is very low. • High-Risk results: A high risk result means there is an increased risk that your baby has a particular condition. Your healthcare provider will talk to you about follow- up testing options, so you can determine if your baby is affected. Panorama screening tests for: • Down syndrome • Edwards syndrome • Patau syndrome • Turner syndrome • 5 microdeletion syndromes • Klinefelter syndrome • Triploidy • Triple X syndrome • XYY syndrome • Vanishing twin • Gender determination with 100% accuracy New testing provides answers at young gestational age Health Information Management Coder - PT Rosewood Court Med Aide - Evening, FT Rosewood Court Med Aide - Night, PT Care Center CNA - Day - 3 12 hr shifts Housekeeping - Day, FT Hospital RN/LPN - PRN MLT/MT - FT

I am always tired. What can I do to change this?

Getting enough sleep is not to be underestimated. Unfortunately, given our busy lives with work and family and other obligations, many of us do not get enough sleep. Fortunately, there are behavior modifications that you can make, starting tonight, that will improve your ability to get a good night’s sleep and feel less tired. We call this “sleep hygiene,” and it includes the following behaviors:• Trying to go to bed and wake up at the same

time every night, regardless of whether it is a weekday or a weekend day

• Avoiding caffeine at least after 6 pm, if not earlier

• Limiting alcohol intake • Trying not to exercise at night just before sleep • Beds are for sleeping – not reading, eating,

watching television, etc.If you try these things without success, it may be a sign of a more serious problem. Schedule an appointment with your health care provider to discuss this further.

One in three American adults has prediabetes. If you have prediabetes, you are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, a serious disease. Many people with prediabetes who do not lose weight and live a sedentary lifestyle will develop type 2 diabetes within 3 years.

The good news is that you can prevent type 2 diabetes. The Henderson Health Care Lifestyle Training Program can help. The Lifestyle Training Program is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

In The Lifestyle Training Program, you will work in a group with a trained lifestyle coach to learn the skills you need to make lasting changes. These include losing a modest amount of weight, being more physically active, and

managing stress. You will learn to eat healthy, add physical activity to your life, stay motivated, and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes.

Your Lifestyle Training Program group will meet once a week for 16 weeks, then once a month for 8 months to maintain your healthy lifestyle changes. Most participants enjoy the group support and find it makes lifestyle change easier. One participant said, “I’ve tried so many things before, but without the program I would never have done this on my own.”

The Lifestyle Training Program is based on research that found people with prediabetes can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half by losing 5 to 7 percent of their body weight.

If you had your hemoglobin A1c checked during the Health Fair and your result was between 5.7-6.4 or your glucose was between 100-125 and you are not currently taking any diabetes medications, you may qualify!

To learn more about The Lifestyle Training Program or register for the program, call Ashley Freeman at (402) 723-4512 ext. 4008 or Tiffany Hofmann at (402) 773-2130 ext. 5007.

HHC receives $374,049 grant for cutting edge diagnostic tool from the Helmsley Charitable Trust

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Patients at Henderson Health Care will soon benefit from access to the latest computed tomography (CT) diagnostic technology made possible through a grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust’s Rural Healthcare Program.

The Trust has awarded Henderson Health Care $374,049 for a new 32-slice CT scanner. CT scanners provide essential diagnostic images of structures inside the body. A new CT scanner will allow for faster scans that produce high-

quality images, allowing medical staff to quickly determine health status and course of treatment while giving patients access to up-to-date healthcare technology close to home.

Henderson Health Care is one of 37 grant recipients across the region to benefit from funding to purchase CT scanners. The Rural Healthcare Program of the Helmsley Charitable Trust is granting nearly $14 million over the next six months to support the purchase of new, 32-slice or higher CT scanners at Critical Access

Hospitals in a seven-state region.

“Our goal is to ensure that people who live in rural America have access to quality healthcare as close to home as possible,”

said Walter Panzirer, trustee of the Helmsley Charitable Trust. “To achieve this, rural hospitals need to be viable and they need to have up-to-date equipment, so patients can receive essential healthcare services locally. This initiative is one of many that aims to improve healthcare access and health outcomes across the upper Midwest.”

The funding initiative was the result of a survey of Critical Access Hospitals in the Rural Healthcare Program’s seven-state funding region. Capital equipment, particularly CT scanners, was identified as a top need by many hospitals. In addition, a new Medicare policy will go into effect January 1, 2016 that may reduce reimbursement for certain studies on CT scanners that do not meet specific radiation dose requirements.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to be selected by the Helmsley Charitable Trust. With the implementation of the new 32 slice CT scanner at Henderson Health Care, we will be able to provide, not only enhanced imaging, but additional studies to provide more comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for our patients while they stay close to home.”
