What happens when your child gets cancer? DISBELIEF – this can’t be happening to my child How can this be – It’s not fair that my child is sick – we’re good people – we don’t deserve this. Your family life has just become a shambles as you try to go through the motions of everyday life. You know what the test results said but they have to be wrong. What did the doctor, nurse say? What are they going to do to my child? What do you mean “Chemo” – that just can’t be right........ Why is this happening to my child? PANIC - What do we do now? There are steps to take but there are no arrows pointing the way. Your family has questions, your child has questions and the answers are out of reach. You just feel numb. There is no control in what is happening to your child. How are we going to cope with all this by ourselves? What about my job? What about the expenses? What about the rest of the family? And then there is ……… What do we do now? CONFUSION – Who can I talk to? There just has to be someone with answers, someone who can explain what is happening. We can’t spend our days running in circles with no end in sight. We need help to sort these things out for us – help to make sense of the disaster that has befallen our precious child; …………… Who can I talk to? TREATMENT – Where do we go? Where do we take our child for help? Is there a place just for kids with cancer in RI? What about the treatment schedule, doctors and nurses to meet with, medi- cines to give? What does The TomorrowFund do when your Childgets cancer?PARKING PASS “They pay your parking! Every time a child with cancer comes for treatment at the hospital The Tomorrow Fund pays.”

— Richard Campanella

IN HOUSE STIPENDS “We are Tomorrow Fund parents and spend a great deal of time in the hospital with our 9 year old daughter as she receives treatment and medical care for Leukemia. Most days our family of 4 (we also have a 7 year old daughter) spend hours together at the hospital in order to keep our family life as normal as possible. The stipend that we are given helps us to share a meal as a family each day which makes the world of difference during a time ofuncertainty. The meal stipend may seem like a small item but to our family it is a huge blessing.”

With much gratitude,Tom, Jenn, Georgia, and Maggie

TRAVEL STIPEND “We have been a part of The Tomorrow Fund family since 2009 when mydaughter was first diagnosed with cancer. They have been a tremendoussupport for our family. When my daughter relapsed in 2011 the support wereceived from The Tomorrow Fund was truly unbelievable. We had to travelto Chicago for relapse treatment. We were in Chicago for almost 3 months. My husband and I knew that we both had to be with our daughter which

meant he would be out of work. Thankfully we hadfamily at home taking care of our other two childrenso we could focus on our daughter’s care. Welearned shortly after deciding to go to Chicago thatThe Tomorrow Fund would provide us with a travelstipend for every day that we spent in Chicago. Wewere shocked but ever so thankful for this. We

spent most of our time in the hospital and it was so nice to be able to get anice dinner while we were there. It’s amazing that something like a goodcup of coffee or a nice meal can just make your day a little better evenwhen dealing with such a horrible situation. Learning your child has canceris one of the worst things you can hear but knowing that you have TheTomorrow Fund by your side makes it a little more bearable.”

CAMP DOTTY Camp Dotty, a day camp for 4-7 year old children with cancer and their siblings, was created to provide a camp experience for young children while recognizing their individual needs as they deal with cancer. The camp helps to create a transition for those children not old enough to attend an overnight camp and to simply, but just as importantly, give parentsa much needed break. Last year, for the 12th consecutive year, more than30 children with cancer and their siblings had a respite from their usual hospital routine as they enjoyed a full week of crafts, games, field trips and summertime fun at Camp.

SCHOLARSHIPS Each year The Tomorrow Fund presents 10 scholarships to Tomorrow Fund cancer survivors thanks to the generosity of Dino Germani, a dedicated Tomorrow Fund friend and donor. Dino created the scholarshipprogram in 2003 to help defray the cost of attending college. Though Dinolost his battle with cancer in 2006, his generous bequest provided anendowment guaranteeing funding each year for the “Dino Germani CollegeScholarship” program.

COPING AND SUPPORT GROUPS FOR PARENT, TEENS, SIBLINGS AND BEREAVEMENT FAMILIES Childhood cancer causes serious emotional stress and anxiety forpatients, parents, siblings and extended family members. Emotionalsupport is critical to help the sickchild and the family as they facethese tremendous strains. TheTomorrow Fund provides funding for: • A Child Life Specialist in The

Tomorrow Fund Clinic who plans, organizes and directs age-appropriate therapeutic play to alleviate anxiety and stress associated with illness and hospitalization.

• Additional psychotherapy, as needed, through the Rhode Island HospitalDepartment of Psychiatry.

• The pediatric oncology social workers help The Tomorrow Fund to process requests for financial and emotional assistance.

• A parent consultant consoles the caretaker who has a child with cancer and complements the social workers’ expertise by sharing first-hand the experiences of what it is like to live with and care for a child with cancer.

2011 Fantasy Ball

The Tomorrow Fund’s “A Night in RIO” was celebrated at our AnnualFantasy Ball, our largest and most critical fundraising event of the year.Friends, families and supporters all came together for a night of dining, dancing, celebration and fundraising.

Hosted by Honorary Chairs David & Judy Belhumeur, Co-Chairs Robert& Janine Calise and Steve Kass & Debra Morais, the event was a greatsuccess due to the generosity of corporate and individual partners donating sponsorships and auction merchandise. The silent auction was coordinated by auction chairs Heather Zinni and D’ Ann Soullier.

We would like to thank the more than 40 sponsors and legions of volunteers whose support wasinvaluable to the success of our celebration.
