Introduction

This Winslow Dynamics Profile Report provides an in-depth description ofyour personality and attitudes as determined by the self-assessment yourecently completed. The following suggestions will insure that you derivemaximum benefit from your participation in this program. We encourageyou to read this information carefully before proceeding to yourassessment Report

Your Participation

The descriptions of your personality presented in this Report are basedsolely on your answers to the Winslow Profile questionnaire. Theassessment instrument was created by a distinguished panel ofprofessionals following extensive research with thousands of individuals.Subsequent studies have confirmed the validity and reliability of thisinstrument for measuring behavioral characteristics and attitudes. Yourresponses to the assessment were processed to establish the trait scoresand interpretations included in this Report. Your scores on the behavioralcharacteristics indicate how you compare to other members ofcontemporary society. They offer a valuable description of your currentattitudes and probable behavior. This Report is not a clinical diagnosis, but is designed to identify behavioral and personality differences withinthe range of "normal" behavior. This knowledge will prove valuable inhelping you attain the career success and personal contentment youdesire.

Reading Your Report

Your Report is organized into eight sections. Each section has anintroduction explaining the purpose of the section, and containssuggestions to help you benefit from the information. We recommend thatyou start at the beginning and read your Report slowly and carefully.Information that initially may seem to be confusing or illogical willbecome clear later as you consider the influence of the other traits. YourReport will become more focused as you progress through it, and providea comprehensive perspective of all facets of your behavior.

Read your Report with an open mind, without prematurely judging itsaccuracy. Some statements may not be complimentary; however, it isessential that you not become defensive. Remember, the informationpresented in this Report is based solely on the answers you gave to thequestionnaire. We suggest that you read your Report several times, andallow yourself to thoroughly analyze and integrate the information. It isimperative that you understand the relationship between each individualtrait description and your overall behavior. The purpose of this Report isnot to compliment or criticize you, but rather to bring into focus areasthat may need attention. While an objective look at your shortcomingsmay be uncomfortable, it is an essential first step in self-improvement.However, a completely honest, non-defensive willingness to examine theinfluence of certain characteristics will be to your long-term benefit.

Trait Definitions

Pay strict attention to the definition of each trait as explained in thisReport. The questionnaires and this Report employ terminology that wasspecifically defined by the authors of the assessment instruments. To useany other definition could cause confusion and may prevent you fromreceiving maximum benefit from the information presented.

Behavioral Examples

Consider the examples given in each trait description to be your probablebehavior. Most individuals with similar scores will manifest the traitsessentially as described. Of course, each individual is unique, and everyexample presented may not fully apply to you. Even if a specific exampledoes not seem completely relevant, the underlying principle should berepresentative of your characteristics on this dimension. Each traitdescription is illustrated with a variety of behaviors, which are intended toserve as illustrative examples only, not as predictors of your own behavioror attitudes.

Consistent Behavior

The trait messages describe your usual attitudes and behavior patterns, rather than how you may feel or act in special situations, or for shortperiods. A person scoring low in Ambition, for example, may temporarilymanifest high Ambition behavior if sufficiently motivated, such asapplying for a new position or working on a special project or hobby. Thistemporary behavior may cause an individual to think the Reportdescription is inaccurate. However, even though people can manifestalmost any behavior if the rewards or penalties are great enough, individuals return to their usual patterns over time. Unless individualsmake a determined effort to modify their behavior, they usually revert totheir basic patterns over time.

Individual Characteristics

Your Report describes each characteristic individually, without consideringthe interrelationship between traits. As a result, it is possible that sometrait descriptions may seem to contradict others. Objective considerationof all of the information, however, will reveal that these perceivedcontradictions describe different aspects, even paradoxical dimensions, ofyour personality. A person may score high in Sociability and low inExhibition, for example. The message for high Sociability describes anextrovert, while the message for low Exhibition describes behavior youmay think is introverted. Closer analysis, however, reveals that bothdescriptions can be accurate. The Sociability message describes a warm, friendly, outgoing individual who enjoys people. However, that sameperson does not behave in a conspicuous manner, or by using othermeans, try to be the center of attention (low Exhibition). Therefore, besure to examine especially closely any apparent contradictions that mayappear in your Report, and attempt to determine the underlying principlebehind the paradox.

Trait Interactions

Behavioral traits naturally interact with one another. It can be misleadingto analyze one trait without considering the influence of the others, particularly those in the same trait group. For instance, a person may below on Endurance, but very high in Ambition, Recognition, andConscientiousness. The motivation reflected in these high scoring traitswill result in one being more energetic and persistent than the lowEndurance description would indicate.

Behavior Is Relevant

Your Report describes your behavior in the abstract, and does notconsider your particular career or lifestyle. Traits that may be liabilities insome careers or personal situations, could be assets in others. A lowscore on Sociability, for example, would be a liability for an individual in asales position, but would be an asset for a person in a technical position;a very high score on Assertiveness can be a concern for a physician, butwould be an asset for a prosecuting attorney.

Position Analysis

Your Report describes your personality in the abstract, compared toothers in our culture. If you participated in this program through yourorganization, you will have the unique opportunity to compare yourbehavior to the behavioral requirements for your particular position.Review the Position Compatibility Summary, and then compare yourPersonality Profile to the color-coded Success Profile overlays. Thiscomparison will enable you to identify behaviors that will enhanceperformance, and those which may prevent you from achieving yourpotential in this position.

Report Accuracy

If you experienced difficulty reading and/or understanding the questionsor incorrectly selected some answers to questions, your assessmentresults will be inaccurate. There are control questions in the assessmentinstrument that determine the accuracy of the results. The AccuracyStatement in the Report Validity Section indicates the accuracy of yourReport. If your Report is "questionable", you should retake theassessment, if you do not have a reading or comprehension problem. Anew Report will be prepared if the results of your reassessment areaccurate.

Report Objectivity

The Objectivity Statement in the Report Validity Section indicates if youanswered the questions objectively, or presented a positively biaseddescription of yourself. If you presented a positive image of yourself, youdescribed the behavior you would like to have, or believe others want youto have, instead of describing yourself as you actually are. As a result, you positively biased the assessment and your results were consequentlyinvalid. To obtain an objective description of your behavior, you mustretake the assessment and have a new Report prepared

Assessment Validity

To determine the accuracy and objectivity of the assessment results, control questions were included in the questionnaires. The Accuracycontrol questions determine if this individual accurately read andunderstood the questions and correctly marked the answer sheets. TheObjectivity control questions detect if this individual objectively describedhimself, or if he positively or negatively biased his trait scores.

Objectivity

This person was objective in answering the questions and did not presenta favorable or unfavorable impression. As a result, his/her trait scoreswere unaffected by a desire to impress others, and this Report should bean objective description of this Participant's behavior and attitudes.

Accuracy

This individual understood the questions and experienced no difficulty inaccurately completing the questionnaire. Consequently, this Report shouldbe an accurate description of his/her behaviors and attitudes.

Trait Descriptions

In this section, each of the twenty-four behavioral characteristics isdescribed as it applies to you. An individual's behavior is the result of theinteraction of many traits. However, to establish a basic understanding ofyour behavior, this section describes each trait individually. Knowing whatthey mean individually, will enable you to better understand thecombination and interaction of your traits.

In reading this section, it is imperative that you pay strict attention to thespecific definition of each trait as used in the report. The trait definitionsappear in the appendix section of your report. To use definitions otherthan those provided by the authors of the questionnaire will bemisleading. Although some of the traits may seem similar to you, they dodiffer in important ways, and you should make sure that you understandthese differences in order to maximize the value of your report.

To aid in understanding the interrelationships of the traits, each of thetwenty-four traits is included in one of four Personality Trait Groups. Thetraits within each group have the greatest influence on one another, eventhough some may also influence traits in other trait groups. ThePersonality Trait Groups are as follows:

Interpersonal Traits influence the quality andeffectiveness of interactions with managers, peers, subordinates, friends, relatives and others.

Organizational Traits affect your ability to organize andcontrol all elements of your physical and interpersonalenvironment.

Dedication Traits influence your level of commitment toachieving success and to your organization.

Self-Control Traits indicate your normal emotional state, and your ability to cope with stress and to control youremotions in stressful situations.

Keep in mind that trait descriptions explain how most individuals with ascore similar to your score would behave. Also remember that some ofthe examples given may not exactly describe your behavior. However, thebasic concept behind each example should be relevant to your behavioralstyle.

How you manifest each trait depends upon your scores on the othertraits, your career, and your particular lifestyle. However, to describe yourtraits independently, we assume that your scores on all the other traitsare average (scores of five or six) and therefore, (not) influential. Thismethod of isolating traits is necessary if you are to understand the effecteach has on your general behavior.

Interpersonal Traits

Sociability (Score: 10 = High)

You are exceptionally friendly and good-natured when interacting withothers. One of your most noticeable features is your ready acceptance ofothers. You derive a great deal of enjoyment from being with friends andassociating with people in general. Because of this outgoing nature, youprobably join many associations and participate in a wide variety of socialactivities, sometimes solely for the companionship they provide. Ingroups you are adaptable, ready to cooperate, and attentive to others. You are likely to reject activities, which restrict, rather than promote, interpersonal interactions. When in the company of strangers, you arecomfortable and quick to make friends. Others view you as beingwarm-hearted and very easy to get along with. As a result of thisbehavior, others are inclined to describe you as being neighborly, friendlyand sociable. Undoubtedly, most people enjoy your company, and seekyou out to add pleasure to social interactions. This behavior can be agreat asset in putting others at ease and result in your gainingcooperation from them. In general, you prefer careers that involvefrequent contact with people, rather than working independently withobjects, tools or equipment. You derive great pleasure from most socialsituations. However, your high Sociability may be distracting, when youare required to focus on the task at hand.

Recognition (Score: 10 = High)

It is extremely important to you to be viewed as a socially desirableperson to friends, coworkers, and people in general. It is very likely thatyou spend more time and effort than you realize seeking the recognition, acceptance and approval of others. You constantly strive to behaveappropriately and to make a good impression. You also readily respond torequests from those whom you feel are important to your career andsocial status. When you think that others do not recognize and admireyou, it bothers you a great deal. Working for approval in your career canfrequently be more important to you than the work itself. When managersand coworkers do not acknowledge your accomplishments and providethe recognition you expect, it causes you great concern. When otherspresent criticism it bothers you, even when the intent of the criticism isconstructive. As a manager, it will be difficult for you to make decisions orto support policies that are unpopular. This trait, more than any other, motivates you to meet the expectations of others, which should enhanceyour career performance. However, this characteristic can also cause youto sacrifice individuality by doing things you would rather not do, in anattempt to satisfy others. It is essential that you do not allow the need forrecognition and approval to cause you to lose touch with your own ideas, opinions, and goals.

Presented on the following page are Profiles of your behavioral traits. ThePersonality Profiles graphically illustrate the degree of influence eachcharacteristic has on your overall interpersonal style and behavior. Byscanning these profiles, you can quickly determine how you compare toothers on each of the twenty-four traits. As you work to address issuesraised by this report, you will find it helpful to continually refer back tothese profiles.

Keep in mind that Personality Profiles take different forms, just as thehuman body takes different forms. Therefore, a profile with some scoresvery high and/or very low does not necessarily mean that you areextreme. Such differences simply indicate some characteristics in yourpersonality are more or less prominent than others.

Another important point to remember is that a high score is notnecessarily positive, nor is a low score necessarily negative. Your reportdoes not offer or imply judgments regarding the different traits. Rather, the assessment results describe your personality and behavior in theabstract; it is for you to decide whether you are content with yourself, orwish to modify or control your attitudes and behavior.

Personal Development

Initial Development

1. Before setting goals or establishing a development program foryourself, we recommend that you read your Report several times, including the Introduction. This approach should provide a thoroughunderstanding of your traits and how they relate to one another.

2. We encourage you to consider sharing your Report with your manager, spouse, and trusted friends and coworkers. Select individuals in yourcareer with whom you function closely, and those who know you verywell in your personal life. Discuss with them their perceptions of yourbehavior and performance in relation to your personality and attitudesas described in this Report.

3. After you have read your Report several times and have discussed itwith confidants, refer to the Influential Traits Section. Read the firstdescription and concentrate on this one particular trait; think about itcarefully. Objectively determine if this is an accurate description ofyour behavior for this trait. Even if every example does not preciselydescribe your behavior, is this description basically correct? If youthink this description is inaccurate, perhaps this trait is a paradox inyour personality. This means that one or more related traits are inopposition to this one. For example, an individual may score high inAmbition, and score low in Endurance. The high Ambition scoreindicates that this individual is very ambitious and competitive, whilethe low Endurance score indicates that this person is inherently notenergetic or persistent. However, when this person’s ego is involved insomething, when he/she wants to achieve something, they will be farmore energetic than described because of the influence of theirAmbition.

4. With this description in mind, think about specific past situations inyour career and personal life where this trait had a positive influenceon your behavior. Analyze the specific ways it improved youreffectiveness and/or enhanced your happiness. Think about how ithelped you in those past situations and how you could use it to youradvantage in the future.

5. Now think about other circumstances and situations in your career andpersonal activities where this particular trait had a negative influence. How did it limit your performance, or prevent you from attaining themaximum success and happiness you desired? What could you dodifferently?

6. Decide if you are content with your present behavior in this area, or ifyou wish to control or change it. Read the Comments Section for thistrait. Think about the suggestions presented, and others of your own, which could help you obtain the maximum benefit from analyzing thistrait. Should you desire to change this characteristic, determineexactly what you will do to change. Establish a definitive plan ofaction, including measurable goals for yourself; then make certain youfollow your plan.

7. Repeat the above procedure for each trait in the Influential TraitsSection. As you proceed, it is imperative that you explore therelationship between each Influential Trait, particularly those in thesame trait group. How does each characteristic influence other traitsin various situations? Which traits are most dominant? Which are mosthelpful? Which are most harmful? Which are most consistent? Whichare most changeable? Which can you control, and under whatcircumstances?

Continuing Development

To receive maximum benefit from your participation in this program, youmust refer to your Report on a regular basis. We recommend that at firstyou read your Report once a week, preferably on Sunday evening orMonday morning. After reading your Report:

1. Focus on each characteristic presented in your Influential TraitsSection. Recall the achievements, successes, and pleasures youexperienced during the prior week. Consider how your behavior onthis one trait may have caused or enhanced these successes. Thinkabout specific ways you could have used other characteristics tofurther improve your performance and increase your pleasure in thesesituations.

2. Recall any errors, problems, disappointments or failures youexperienced during the prior week. Think about how each of yourInfluential Traits may have caused, or contributed to, thosecircumstances. Think about specific ways that negative characteristicsin other traits could have amplified those situations. Consider specificways your positive traits could have prevented, or minimized, theimpact of those unpleasant experiences.

3. Periodically consult with your manager, spouse and/or close friendsand coworkers to discuss your progress. Discuss your behavior andperformance in your career and personal life. Ask them for advice andsuggestions on what they think you could do to improve your behaviorand attitudes in the future. Continue to seek their feedback on yourprogress in controlling and modifying traits.

Future Development

Individuals and their behavior continue to change. You are different nowthan you were last year, and chances are you will be different next year. This is particularly true when you are part of a dynamic organization, withsophisticated development programs, or when your personal lifestylechanges. For these reasons, you may want to retake the questionnairesannually and have a new Winslow Dynamics Report prepared. Your newReport will describe your behavior and attitudes at that time, and allowyou to measure your progress. It will assist you in evaluating yourmethods for changing traits. It will also help you establish new plans andgoals for the coming year.

After retaking the questionnaires, and before receiving your new Report, review this Report one final time. Read each Trait Description carefully.Decide if your current behavior and attitudes are the same as, or differentfrom, the score and description in this Report. Mark on your PersonalityProfiles the score you think you will have for each trait in your new, updated Report. This technique will enable you to determine objectivelyhow insightful you have become concerning your behavior.

ConclusionExcited? Confused? Inspired? Alarmed? Impatient? Impressed? How doyou feel right now, after reading what we consider to be a comprehensiveassessment of your behavior? Whatever your feelings, we encourage youto face them openly, honestly and realistically. You hold in your hands anabundance of information about yourself that can be transformed intoterms that are personally meaningful to you, your values and your goals.

Our objective has not been to flatter or embarrass you, to feed your egoor deflate it. Rather, our intention is to present objective informationabout your behavior and attitudes that you can actually use. However, your Report alone is not a recipe for success, or a diagnosis. For personalsatisfaction to be yours, the principal architect in achieving success willhave to be you. Therefore, the value of your Report depends upon the useto which you put it.

No matter what the results may show, each individual must think aboutthe information carefully. Some people are content with their present self, while others want to change their behavior. You may wonder whether thisis even possible. The answer is emphatically yes. There is much evidenceto support the theory that one’s character is developed in the longprocess of growing up. By maturity, these traits show a fairly high degreeof stability, which makes it possible to measure them. It does notnecessarily follow, however, that our personalities as adults are rigid andunchangeable. If we can develop a behavior, we can also modify it. Ifhumans did not have the capacity to change, there would be no point toeducation, training, counseling, therapy and other similar activities. However, change will require much reflection, thought, planning, time, effort and patience on your part.
