Family Newsletter December 17, 2015 1 Issue No. 6 Did you know that in today’s economy, computing jobs outnumber students graduating into the field by 3-to-1? And computer science is foundational for every industry today. Yet most schools don’t teach it. At the Winship Elementary School, we are trying to change that. That’s why our entire school joined the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-11). More than 100 million students worldwide participated in Hour of Code. Winship students used the Hour of Code's online tutorials to learn basic coding concepts during library class with Mr. Noll and computer class with Ms. Sussman. They also had the opportunity to meet and speak with career coders who volunteered their time to speak with students about careers in computer science. At the Winship School, we are teaching our students critical 21st century skills. We want to ensure that our students are on the forefront of creating technology of the future--not just consuming it!
