Winning In Every Worship Experience!
Elder Cornelius Young & Min. Shelayna Parker
Defeating the myth that the worship experience is a battle ground between sound, music, and the pulpit. A practical approach to taking multiple components of the worship experience to create one sound that is fitly joined together.

11 And it came to pass when the priests came out of the
Most Holy Place (for all the priests who were present had
sanctified themselves, without keeping to their divisions),
12 and the Levites who were the singers, all those of
Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and
their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed
in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and
harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests
sounding with trumpets--
Winning In Every Worship Experience!
13 indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers
were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising
and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice
with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music,
and praised the LORD, saying:
“For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,”[a]
that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a
cloud,
14 so that the priests could not continue ministering
because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the
house of God.
2O my God, I cry in the daytime, but
thou hearest not; and in the night
season, and am not silent. 3But thou
art holy, O thou that inhabitest the
praises of Israel.”

Full Inner Communication
Each ministry communicates amongst themselves so that each
member of the department is aware of ministry details (i.e. when, where, what, how)
Full Collaboration
Each ministry has come together in an effort to contribute to the
overall vision of the worship experience.
Full Preparation
Each ministry is fully equipped to execute the targeted vision of the
worship experience.
*Preparing for the weekly worship experience has a greater effect when the larger picture becomes the backdrop for the weekly plan.

Turn System On
•Turn on all equipment- this includes the audio console,
PA, or anything needed for the service.
•Test all mics and inputs prior to the band arriving:
a. This helps to make for a smooth sound check
b. This will also help cut down on
troubleshooting time if something goes wrong

“Turn System On”
Our power is in our (interconnection) unity!
Mutually joined together or related
5 May our dependably steady and warmly personal God
develop maturity in you so that you get along with each
other as well as Jesus gets along with us all.
6 Then we'll be a choir - not our voices only, but our very lives
singing in harmony in a stunning anthem to the God and Father of our Master Jesus!

Check Levels
“Line check”- This is simply going through each channel
and asking each band member or singer to do their part.
This is just to test the input and should not take any longer
then 2 minutes per instrument.
Typically, you start with the first channel you have, or drums.
a. You should ask everyone else not to play during
this time. It goes much faster if everyone is ready to
play and paying attention to the sound man.

Check Levels
As you go through each input, be sure to check with
each band member or singer to make sure they can
hear themselves and that they don’t need any changes.
After completing the “line check,” ask everyone to play
together. This could be high chorus or a full song.
a. This helps everyone to hear the mix, get
warmed up and make any minor changes before
the full sound check.

“Check Levels”
Biblically
Being lined up according to the biblical standard of our particular
area of ministry, with the understanding that our ministry is to be skilled,
spirit-led, and edifying the body of Christ.
Physical Orientation
Continuously participating in activity that will enhance our ministry
i.e. studying, rehearsing, attending trainings/seminars/workshops, etc...
Local Assembly
Lining up with the decorum, order, and theology of your local church.
Having a complete understanding of your craft, it’s
biblical connotation, its physical orientation, and how
it fits in the local assembly.

Adjustments
Lastly, hand the sound check over to the band, choir, or
worship leader. It is now their time to serve. The sound
technician must remain alert and maintain effective
sound for the duration of the service through minor
adjustments, trouble shooting, etc…
*The tech team should always be the earliest. By being early
and preparing, you can limit the potential of errors and
distractions for the service.
Sound Engineer’s Advice:

“Adjustments”
• Each entity must bring their best to the table in
order to have the ultimate worship experience
• Each entity must differentiate between their
time to minister and their time to support the
ministry of the other entities involved in the
worship experience.
Operating effectively individually while contributing
to the corporate vision for the worship experience.
POINTSREMEMBER
TO
Winning In Every Worship Experience!
• Learn to Adapt to Changes without compromising
the integrity of the message
• Workers must always have the Mind of God and
the Heart of your Leader
• Learn to Empower Those Around You
(Keep an element of mentorship as a part
of your ministry)
Winning In Every Worship Experience!
• Be certain that the RIGHT people are in place
“over” and “in” each entity of the worship experience.
• Create an atmosphere of trust amongst all entities
involved in the worship experience.
• Steer clear of “On The Spot” fixes during the worship
experience from items that should have been
addressed during preparation. (Sunday Morning Fix)
