May 22, 2020 T here is no question these are challening times. All of us wish dearly that we could return to the “normal” we all enjoyed. Unfortunately, it will be some time before we are able, as a society, to return to that lifestyle— but, if we are careful and return to activities gradually, we may be able to avoid a second- wave of this disease that has taken such a toll on the world, our country and our region. Because knowledge is so important in a situation such as this, I want to make certain you remain up-to-date on COVID-19 at Twining Village. We have tried to provide updates regularly at the same time we take many, many steps to reduce incidence of the virus and protect both our residents and our dedicated staff members. Here is our status as of May 20: Currently, we have 17 residents at Twining Village who have tested positive. Of those residents, 15 are in the nursing care center and two are in the Manor personal care center. We deeply grieve the loss of residents who have died as a result of the disease or complications from the disease and other conditions. An update: Twining Village and COVID-19 Cumulatively, we have had 13 deaths at Twining Village or at the hospital. Five individuals were long-term care residents in the nursing care center, while four were residents of the memory-care unit in the Manor, and four were residents who had been admitted from the outside community or hospitals. We have had 22 staff members who tested positive. Wonderfully, 20 of these dedicated staff members have returned to work after being symptom-free based on CDC guidelines. The remaining two staff members are not at work and continue to self-quarantine. I welcome your concern for those who have been affected by this disease. And if you have any questions, please let me know. Tai Kasoro Executive Director T Twining wining V Village illage Voice Voice k k k k

There is no question these are challening times.

All of us wish dearly that we could return to the “normal” we all enjoyed. Unfortunately, it will be some time before we are able, as a society, to return to that lifestyle— but, if we are careful and return to activities gradually, we may be able to avoid a second-wave of this disease that has taken such a toll on the world, our country and our region. Because knowledge is so important in a situation such as this, I want to make certain you remain up-to-date on COVID-19 at Twining Village. We have tried to provide updates regularly at the same time we take many, many steps to reduce incidence of the virus and protect both our residents and our dedicated staff members. Here is our status as of May 20:

• Currently, we have 17 residents at Twining Village who have tested positive.

• Of those residents, 15 are in the nursing care center and two are in the Manor personal care center.

• We deeply grieve the loss of residents who have died as a result of the disease or complications from the disease and other conditions.

An update: Twining Village and COVID-19 • Cumulatively, we have had 13 deaths at Twining Village or at the hospital. Five individuals were long-term care residents in the nursing care center, while four were residents of the memory-care unit in the Manor, and four were residents who had been admitted from the outside community or hospitals.

• We have had 22 staff members who tested positive. Wonderfully, 20 of these dedicated staff members have returned to work after being symptom-free based on CDC guidelines. The remaining two staff members are not at work and continue to self-quarantine. I welcome your concern for those who have been affected by this disease. The process for reopening Pennsylvania …The governor of Pennsylvania has issued the following guidelines for the “re-opening” of Pennsylvania: Red Phase Social Restrictions:

• Stay-at-home orders in place • Large gatherings prohibited • Restaurants and bars limited to carry-out and delivery only • Only travel for life-sustaining purposes encouraged Yellow Phase • Stay-at-home order lifted for aggressive mitigation • Large gatherings of more than 25 prohibited • One-person retail allowable, curbside and delivery preferable • Indoor recreation, health and wellness facilities and personal services (such as gyms, spas, hair salons, nail salons, and other entities that provide massage therapy) • All entertainment such as casinos and theaters remain closed • Restaurants and bars limited to carry–out and delivery

Green Phase • Aggressive mitigation lifted As helpful information, Bucks County remains in the Red Phase.

An note on testing...The state Department of Health issued an advisory May 12 about testing of residents and staff. It’s important to note that the testing notice is an advisory, not a mandate as some media sources have reported. Additional testing of asymptomatic individuals would depend on availability of testing and whether such testing advances a strategic approach to enhanced infection control. Diakon leadership continues to review all such advisories as it focuses on strategic directions to control incidence of the virus.

A testing resource …CVS is providing 19 drive-through COVID-19 testing sites in the Philadelphia region. If you are interested in those locations and services, please log onto the CVS website for more information.

A recent success!

Three of our village residents have “graduated” from isolation after recovering from COVID-19 disease. That is great news!

Currently, we have

no residents in

independent living

who have tested

positive for the virus.

That, too, is

wonderful news.
