Alba WingsHi everyoneWell the weather is decidedly better – drier – which is good, but still a bit chilly.

Mark & Nina made up their minds to take a run out on their bike last weekend and I’m not really sure if they checked the forecast. It did look promising on the Friday but as you know the weather changes even more than a woman’s mind!

Well, they got halfway up Loch Lomond and decided to stop for lunch at the Drover’s Inn. If you’re ever in that area it’s worth a stop, if not for lunch but to hear the stories about ALL the ghosts it has. The building looks a bit like the LilliputLaneornaments;fullof character and it makes you wanttogoinandlookround;you’ve heard about having skeletons in your cupboard, well the Drovers has at least two in each cupboard!

Anyway, in the words of a well-known member (Duncan Mitchell) digress.”

So, where was I? Yes, our trav-ellers sat down to lunch and to thaw out when they heard the route that they were wanting to take had a snowfall. The run they had planned is superb on a lovely day but at this time of year there is still a lot of snow on the hills. Toooo cold.

Still, they both had a nice little run, but as Nina said, she was glad to get home and get the feeling back in her fingers and toes, etc.

Sorry Mark I’m on a roll … The following weekend he was going out with his friend for a wee jolly on their bikes. Well that’s all it was, a “wee” ride

out. They didn’t get out of their home town as his friend’s bike packed in and they had to call for a recovery vehicle. I’m not saying Mark is a jinx BUT I will think twice if he’s on an Alba run. Sorry son.

I don’t know about all of you, but I always feel when the clocks change it should auto-matically be the start of warm weather!

It’s not a dream that our Wing Ding is getting closer and lots to do to make it a great weekend. We all say it’s what you make of it yourself but a wee bit of organisation helps! As you may know it’s a new venue for us this year, Ayr Rugby Club (Millbrae, Alloway) now there’s a plug!! Still, can’t apologise as it’s in a lovely part of our coun-try and within walking distance of most of Robert Burns’s tourist attractions. You can re-enact the tale of poor Tam O’ Shanter on the famous bridge, and hope-fully minus the witch chasing you.

Today was our monthly meet-ing, and was once again very well attended. We all helped welcome Brendan, who has already joined the Club and

now Alba. So good to see a fresh new face!! I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with all the old faces, but it was the start of the 10am meetings, and it showed! Onwards and upwards.

Better not forget our con-gratulations to Mark in taking over the GWOCGB Webmaster & Forum “jobs?” Good luck from all the gang.

Scottish Bike Show was such a good weekend. The usual company and then some, too many to write about but need-less to say you all enjoyed talk-ing and promoting the Club to the public. It’s good fun getting to hear some myths they have about the Wing. It’s cumber-some;itprobablycan’tgetuptoany serious speed! Too heavy to lift if it goes down! I wouldn’t get a trailer, it would slow me down;Ihaveallmycampingequipment in my rucksack (oh really?), so you go from tent to fed and watered?

Barry and Tina came up as usual and helped man the stand, and sell the Club. We never take it for granted that they can make it, as every second year the hotels, etc., are booked for the rugby. Thank

This bears a spooky resemblance to the Drovers Inn!!

you again … Tina’s a giggler, just what was needed.

This time 18 hungry bikers went out for dinner on the Saturday night, and as in every year it was a great success. Good priced food and good company with rubbish jokes. What more could we ask for? Maybe Tom & Marion? They didn’t manage as Tom wasn’t keeping too well, so unfortunately they didn’t make any of the weekend.

Another pity was some of the Border Wingers who came up couldn’t make the Saturday din-ner as they had other commit-ments the following day. Well guys/gals try and make it next year, it would be great if you could all join us.

Pete & Janet didn’t make it either, so we will have to ask Pete to plan his next year’s calendar round our bike show. I got a fleeting glance of Alan

Mosley, just saw him talking to Duncan as I was going over with a welcome leaflet to a guy who wanted a wee bit more info about the Club.

It’s been a good time for us at the moment and will be a better time when the Wing Ding is up and running. Hope to see many of you this year.

I wish you all trouble-free riding

Broadland East Anglia RegionGreetings one and all from the BEARs in the East

Last Sunday I spent a blissful and nostalgic hour with BBC4 reminiscing with a programme called Great British Motorbikes. Oh, the joy of remembering days of yore when bikes were any colour as long as it was black, had kick starts and it was slightly risqué to be called a “rocker”.

However, life moves on and we, in the east, are celebrating.

venge) meeting next year. Some of us are preparing

for the Belgian Treffen at Easter and hoping for better weather this year – I don’t really like packing things away which have been coated in snow – although as Easter is a few weeks later this year it should be better (won’t hold my breath though and the hot water bottle will be packed). There should be a better turnout this year as we believe this will be the last Easter Treffen in Belgium after 30+ years.

During the winter months, meetings have been indoors at Diss, though some of us have been there on two wheels as spring seems to have come to our region. Ride outs are planned so please contact Tony to see where we are meeting on the first Sunday of the month as we may not be in Diss. There are also dates in the diary for static charity displays – again please see Tony as to where and when.

No more for present. Ride safely;it’sabusyworldoutthere.

Why you may wonder? Well at the Inter-Regional Bowling Competition in Gravesend our men won medals for the shield for the highest score. Are we proud of our chaps? You bet we are. Mind you we are also proud of the mama BEARs who pulled out all the stops and got really good scores.

Well done all who flew the flag for us. Many thanks to Kent who organised the event and we look forward to a return (re-

Capital WingsWe won! We won! And thrice, we won! What else is there to say?

Capital were the victors in the annual Inter-Regional Bowling Competition, held in

Gravesend, Kent in March. We came together to face

the force of teams from Kent, Broadlands and Essex. We had never won this competition before, only the wooden spoon but the boys and girls pulled to-gether to win a famous victory.

There was a last minute panic when some of the original team members had to drop out through illness so Rocky, Aaron, Nigel, Chris Woods, Phil and Yetti and Elaine, Hills, Liz, Jo, Jenny and Alison are to be congratu-

lated. They managed to score a magnificent 2,848. My sources failed to tell me the other scores but this one seemed pretty high to me.

Aaron, Gordon’s nephew, won the men’s highest score trophy (with 325) and here he is with a big smile on his face. Liz won the lowest score prize (with 137). The official photographer had the day off on this particu-lar Sunday and Rocky failed to bring Capital’s Cup to our April Mole Night. However, there are ways and means to show you the evidence of our victory and here is the trophy for all of you to see. Essex will be hosting the competition next year. I hear that they are hard in training already.

A few Moles ventured to the Hunstanton Light Parade and enjoyed a good weekend there. The official reporter also had the weekend off so not a lot of news of goings-on except about the size of Rocky’s toilet in his

caravan. Enough said on that one I think.

One special photograph did get taken though – of Royal Moles. The ordinary Capital Moles visited Sandringham and whilst there noticed that some of Her Majesty’s subjects had come out of hibernation to greet them. Here they are, happy and smiling, saying Hello!

I don’t know how many of you have heard about Yetti’s FUBAR GoldWing but 20 years after its first transmis-sion about the famous, flaming bike, the story is still being shown on the television.

Friends texted Yetti from far and wide in April to tell him the ‘You’ve Been Framed’ clip had been on AGAIN. If only he had signed that form for repeat showing fees! At least Yetti has grown back his moustache now – and much more!

Our congratulations go to Jo for passing her test and getting her full motorcycle licence in

February. She even has her own bike too so we look forward to seeing her and Chris zipping around the bends on our future rides out together.

Next month I will be able to tell you more about our Easter Egg Run and the Belgian

Treffen. Lots more events com-ing up too over the next few months.

I do a lot of reading for my job so come across some interesting headlines. Here’s a Mole-related one: “Whiplash ‘can be treated with one chat to

a physio’”. I’m off so see a nice young chap, lie down on his treatment table and tell him my problems.

The rest of you, have fun elsewhere and don’t forget … “We won!”

Miss (Helen) Whiplash

Devon & Cornwall WingsThe Elliot Arms at Tregadillit was the venue for the Tuesday Rendezvous and it was good to be able to welcome newer mem-bers and a very new bike – well at least it was new to Bill but pretty old in itself! He has gone and bought a 1978 GL1000K3, so despite the dark depths of a Cornish night Peter was right out there like a shot giving it the once over. The meals at this pub are so enormous that I’d written myself a diary note only to have a starter and I managed to stick to my guns but then got side tracked by the sweet menu so was pogged out by the end anyway!

For our monthly meeting date Chris was able to arrange a pre-season viewing of the air museum at Newquay http://www.classicairforce.com/.

Over 30 members, friends and

family turned up to enjoy the VIP treatment, which started with a welcome, hot drink and classy biscuits. We were then split into groups and taken around by volunteers who ex-plained the exhibits, their histo-ry and state of restoration. It was a really good session, there were even a couple of planes that we were allowed into out on the tarmac, one a VC10 which had been adapted to a refuelling plane so was just a flying petrol station (complete with ashtrays in the chair arms – how safe is that then?). Other visitors benefited as they were here from Hampshire and were let in on the back of our visit and kept following us around. We then had another cuppa and a photo opportunity with the bikes in the hanger by the planes. All in all an excellent day out.

Standing meetings definitely worked this month – I counted seven members on their feet. There wasn’t really much busi-ness, our new Treasurer still hasn’t been able to get his hands on the dosh so we are now go-ing to change banks and start again – so much hassle for such a small amount! We also made a decision to organise a Wing Ding next year as we haven’t had one for a while so watch this space for dates and venue.

There is yet another Bike Night getting off the ground this year so if anyone is near Trispen, Cornwall on a Thursday night it starts on 17 April every week until 4 September at St Erme Sports Community Centre.

And the end of the month turned glorious but of course everyone was looking after their mothers that day! We managed to get the bike out after Mother-ing Sunday duties and took a

ride out to Exmouth, watched the world and his dog on the seafront, had an ice cream then looped back over Woodbury Common, by which time it was

getting a bit chilly and too hazy for much of a view but it was great to get out and blow the cobwebs away.

Kent WingsHiya allSorry to be the bearer of sad news but we had a fellow ex-GoldWinger pass away recently – Norman Bates or ‘No Brakes Norman’ as we knew him in the Club. He was a character and will be missed by all who knew him.

Kent Bowling Competition: The bowling competition went well with four Regions turning out, thanks to Kent, Capital, Essex, and Broadlands.

There were some good scores across the board but at the end of the day the overall winner were Capital, well done all, so instead of going to the city, i.e. London, for the venue, Essex will be hosting the event.

Also while I’m talking about

the bowling, thanks to Steve for doing the scoring on his computer and to all for helping out at the competition.

The last meeting we had at the clubhouse in Kent went well. As the weather was bril-liant sunshine we decided to

Ann’s birthday cake

have the meeting in the beer garden, it was great to see new members coming onboard – David Downhem and his brother-in-law, also great news that Collin and Brenda Perkins will be re-joining as associate members, as he cannot ride his Wing anymore.

The AGM will have been and gone by the time this goes to print so a big thanks to Chris Hinds for all his work within the Club, hopefully we will see you more at the Kent meetings, let’s hope the new chairman can fill the big seat that you have left.

Members of Kent Wings went up to Hunstanton Light Parade for the gathering of Wings, although we’ve had no feedback

but, as always, they would have had a great time.

If you would like to come in a camper we have set aside an area in the camping field for campers under the Health and Safety, i.e. separate area for campers, before anyone rings me to say you cannot put tents with campers.

Kent Wing Ding will be around the corner before we know it. Everything is sorted, the run out, and the entertain-ment all weekend, and on the Sunday a challenge to the Re-gions with a games afternoon.

Then we will have a barbi, also live music and then some background music while we sit around the inscription tent

for some banter, so bring your drink and chairs and let’s party.

Our trophies are ready for the taking, though Sussex have said that they intend to take the lot! So come on, let’s have some Inter-Regional competition, especially for the awards on the Sunday.

If you would like to come early we have arranged it so you can come on the Thursday, so why not make it for a nice relaxing break by the sea, or maybe take a trip to France for the day or visit the various castles and gardens around Kent or just chill out on the beach.

So for now that’s all, take care and see you around the circuit.

Lancs & Lakes WingsHi folksWhat has been happening in your little corner of our beauti-ful and diverse Great Britain? From posts on Facebook it

appears that many have

taken advantage of the milder weather and ‘got on their bikes’.

This report is going off early as we have a special milestone/family celebration on Sunday

30 March, so apologies if a few things are missing. We are then off to where the sun has its hat on, mind you the door bell keeps ringing with Anniversary cards and chocolates for Mothering Sunday.

WingSpan May 2014 17WingSpan May 2014 17WingSpan May 2014 17

Out and AboutWe had a lovely surprise last week when a huge bunch of beautiful golden flowers arrived in advance of our Golden Wed-ding (the reason for the flight to the sunshine). Thank you Lancs and Lakes, we were really touched that you had (1) spent money on us, and (2) that you had planned it so that we could enjoy them before we went away.

Before that, George and Carol took advantage of the good weather on the second Sunday of the month and sallied forth into North Wales to meet up with long time friends Dennis (formerly L&L but now settled in North Wales) and Allen at Petrolheads Roadside Cafe in Bagillt on the A548 coast road. I was still under the weather and opted to stay in the warm and have a good read. They brought flowers and a beautiful Golden Wedding card that Carole had created with a lovely verse, which brought tears to my eyes. It is hard to believe that 50 years have passed since I stood shivering with nerves and cold in front of the altar and here we are doing it all again by renew-

ing our vows in church before an Anniversary/Mothering Sunday Lunch in Ciro’s Italian Restaurant at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel, with very close family and friends.

The lads and lassies in this green and pleasant land ‘up north’ have been busy planning the riding schedule, events etc., for the season. Ian is also looking for names for Dream-flight, as they have asked if we can provide some more bikes for their open day, which is on Saturday the 2nd August 2014 at the Liverpool Police Club. Ian

filled me in.“We are look-

ing for bikes for Dreamflight. This is an opportunity to let kids and adults ride on a Wing – two laps of a small field for £2. This is to send kids on a dream holiday who may not be alive for too long. The field is cordoned off from everyone so is safe. Helmets need not be worn

but we take a few old ones in case anyone wants to wear one. No one who comes has to let anyone on their bike, it is up to the owner. Kind regards Ian”

Thanks for that input Ian. So contact Ian on [email protected] asap if you can attend or help in any way.

Come and join the fun.Visit our website at http://

www.lancsandlakeswings.co.uk where there is still a lot of information about who we are, etc. If you are new to the Region, do come along and make yourselves known before the meeting so that you can be given a proper welcome. Last but not least, also visit GWOCGB website at http://www.gwocgb.co.uk. Log on and go to the Notice Board to down-load and send off your Treffen pre-inscription form and save £5.00 per membership.

lancs and lakes Biker’s CornerAgainst all odds, Andy, al-though still mopping his brow after all the DIY and house beautiful, etc., sent us some info he had picked up and forwarded to L&L members.

1. New road tax rules. A link about the new road tax rules. http://www.

2. A worrying social media trend. “The price com-parison website ‘confused.com’ says that ‘worrying numbers of motorists’ are taking photos while driving and then sharing them via social networking sites. The findings are from research published today (20 March) by ‘confused.com’ in which nearly one in 14 respondents (7%) admitted to having taken a photograph while in control of a vehicle.”

3. Poppy GoldWing pin badge. Andy forwarded all of us this message from Paul Adams, which was been on the Forum. “In recognition of GWOCGB support of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch Poppy Appeal, a limited edition (500) Poppy GoldWing pin badge has been commissioned. It is a poppy man riding a Red GL1800, available from myself at events this year in

return for a minimum dona-tion of £2.00. All proceeds to the Poppy Appeal.” (See picture above). Andy also told Paul in his reply: “I’m filling up a money tin plus some GoldWing parts which I will bring to sell for the Poppy Appeal at the Treffen.”

4. Proposed 20mph speed limit zones. Andy has just sent some info about the proposed 20mph speed limits and zones.

“The DfT is to commission research into the effective-ness of 20mph speed limits in order to “support and inform future policy develop-ment on 20mph speed limits and zones”. In the tender document, the DfT says: “While there is evidence suggesting that 20mph zones are effective in reducing

collisions and speeds (as well as leading to other benefits), there is an evidence gap on the effectiveness of 20mph speed limits”. The study is a three-year project with a final report anticipated in early 2017. The project is being tendered through the DfT’s ‘transport-related technical and engineering advice and research (T-TEAR) framework’, rather than an open competition. For more information contact Graeme Mateer at the DfTa.”

Thank you for Andy for all this.

Of course, you can get it all straight from the horse’s mouth at the monthly meetings. I understand that Biker’s Corner is back on at Sunday’s meeting so everyone is in for a treat. Visitors always welcome.

Ride safe!Christine x

Lincolnshire WingsSo Hunstanton Light Parade has been and gone and what a wonderful event it was. The sun

shone brightly, much different

to last year when it actually snowed, the GoldWings turned out in large numbers and

crowds cheered the parade. But best of all, Lincolnshire Wings won the award for the “Best At-tended Region” with five solos and three trikes, just enough to

Dick’s new trailer has been transformed with a full spray by Club Rep Sandy and has also had some LEDs attached ready for night time use and light parades.

Things are still progressing well for our two events in 2014 – the Wing Ding at the end of May and the Skegness Light Parade (SKLP) on 20 September. From the events calendar our Wing Ding is on the weekend between the Wing Dings of Kent and Alba so the Lincoln-shire Wing Ding would be an ideal stop off point (and also

you are assured of a very warm welcome). The SKLP has been attracting a lot of interest and details of the accommodation will be known by the area Reps by the time this article is pub-lished http://www.lincswings.co.uk/SLP/SKLP.htm.

outnumber the other Regions. Well done to all of our members who attended and made this a memorable occasion. The pan-oramic picture of Hunstanton shows the group of Lincs Wings members, minus one trike, and you may notice that there are a large number of yellow bikes in the Region (Lincolnshire is known for the Lincolnshire Yel-low Bellies).

One of our oldest established members, Martin Good, has for the last two years been restor-ing a 1978 GL1000 and, as the pictures show, he has produced a magnificent example of this fine GoldWing. His original purchase was for a “box of bits”, which was supposed to be a complete bike, but finding he was short of a few parts, he bought a second bike and made one good one out of the two. Working in a very confined shed, next to his cherished GL1500 “Enterprise”, he has fully restored the GL1000 and now it is almost ready for the road, just needing some fluids adding and some timing adjust-ments. We are looking forward to seeing this lovely GoldWing at some Lincs Wings meet-ings during the year and both Martin and his wife Di (who is recovering from a gallstones op-eration) are looking forward to the first ride. Well done Martin, another GoldWing restored!

Our webmaster, Stephen, who does a great job on the Lincs Wings website, tells us he is taking guitar lessons, so with any luck he may be able to give us a rendition of Little Brown Jug, guitar style, at our Wing Ding?!

South Wales WingsHello lovely boys and girls I hope you are all well. Things are gathering pace as our Wing Ding at Usk Rugby Ground gets

nearer. The few things we had to

do are now in place, the cater-ing is now online and you will all be able to enjoy breakfast and an evening meal at reason-

able cost and as usual there will be tea and coffee available free all weekend, and if you are all good little Wingers a few Welsh cakes too! The run outs are in the process of being ironed out.

We hope you will enjoy the ground as we will have exclu-sive use of all the club.

Anyone who wishes to arrive early must make prior notice to me, as we need to cater for all who come. There will be a charge of £3 per night to help cover costs. Can all members who wish to come in a caravan or motor home please pre-book your place as we need to know how best to manage the space we have – all are welcome. The theme is a “rock and roll week-

end” so get out your gear and jive the nights away.

Sad news – it seems that the Swansea Motorcycle Show run by Rodger Gale is now to stop, as good old Rodger has retired and any new shows will take a new format. I would like to thank Rodger for all the work he has done in the last few years to put on the show at Dylan Thomas Square and wish him a happy and long retire-ment.

Mr Kentin called out the

troops to find a good run out for the Wing Ding, they went out for a run around Usk, Monmouth, andTinternAbbey;a goodly nine Wingers turned out. More news to follow but all’s in hand.

May your God grant you all of your needs and some of your wants.

Sussex WingsHi allThe bikes are out and Sussex Wings are back on the road. We’ve had a good couple of months, with some great rides and new members too.

Our monthly meetings have been well attended and with a bit of sunshine we have been able to keep them short and head off out on our two wheels.

March saw a great ride down to Bexhill after our monthly meeting with 17 Wings! The

following week 12 Wings spent a dry but chilly day at

Brooklands Museum for the Velocette Day. The museum displays a wide range of motoring and aviation exhibits ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to an unparalleled collection of aircraft. It is also where the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit was constructed in 1907.

We met up at the Chalet Café near Cowfold for a spot of breakfast before heading off up

to the museum in Weybridge. It was a good day, with plenty to see around the museum and watching the Velocettes taking part in the hill climb. On leaving we headed over to Whiteways – a popular tea stop for bikers on the A29, unfor-tunately we lost Brian on the way! We were trying the ‘drop off system’ but there was a bit of a glitch. Brian was marking and I was Tail End Charlie. He was unable to pull in before me and was having to catch up, when he finally saw me leaving

the A24, he pealed off behind me only to find it was in fact Mick Delaney who was heading home! We had gone straight on, fortunately he knew where we were heading and he made his own way and was supping a nice cuppa with us soon after

we’d arrived. Sorry about the confusion mate, I’ll do better next time.

The following Sunday, the last of March was another good one. Again we headed out west, this time visiting the open day at Camping World International

in Horsham. We were invited to put the Wings on display for a few hours, which we were happy to do and were rewarded with complementary burg-ers from the BBQ. It was good to have a wander round the tents and camping accessories

and certainly got me looking forward to the season. After this we had a ride down to a café called The Lobster Pot in Felpham. Gadget has been there anumberoftimes;it’spopularwith bikers and has a great posi-tion on the seafront. I hadn’t visited before and enjoyed it, will definitely go back. It’s great to find something new, if there is something round the corner from you that is worth a visit let me or Mal know as we are always looking for places for rides out.

With the prospect of a good summer ahead of us and more group rides, Mal, our ever en-thusiastic events co-ordinator, has been getting us to use the drop off system, as you read above. It’s a great way of getting to our intended location safely and together without having to have marshals. What’s great is that a drop off system means

that you have something to do during the ride too, you end up moving up through the ride so you are not seeing the same rear end all the time. So far it’s been going well and has been used on the ride outs to Brooklands and the Lobster Pot, albeit with a little loss! but I wanted to remind all you lovely people how it works as you all need to be involved to make it work. The lead rider will stay at the front and is responsible for navigating the route, the last rider is ‘Tail End Charlie’, and they will stay at the back in last position, both will wear orange fluorescent vest. These are the only two riders who remain in their position in the group. At every junction, the rider imme-diately behind the leader stops and marks the junction and indicates the route, which the other members should follow. All the other riders will pass this

marker. The marker then rejoins the group in front of ‘Tail End Charlie’. This approach involves the entire group, and the marker gets rotated from front to back and gradually moves up to the front again. The method works but only if everyone does their bit and doesn’t forget they are in the No. 2 position, when it is their turn to mark. If you want to leave the ride you should pull into the left in a safe, visible position and wave other riders past. When ‘Tail End Charlie’ arrives, they will stop and you can then inform them that you are leaving the group. That way no one ends up following you! A roundabout should be marked by parking in a safe visible position on the exit. When going straight through at a crossroads where you don’t have right of way, you may mark it, if you wish, however the default action

Sussex Wings displaying at Camping World in Horsham (photo Peter Maxwell)

WingSpan May 2014 23WingSpan May 2014 23WingSpan May 2014 23

in such a case is to continue straight through. Therefore, if there is no marker when you ar-rive at the junction you should proceed straight on. If you do decide to mark such a junction you should do so by stopping in a safe visible position on the far side of the crossroads. When you are marking a junction, make sure you park in a posi-tion not to obstruct other road users. If necessary point in the direction that riders arriving at the junction should proceed. There is no need when using the drop off system to keep the rider behind you in your mir-rors. There is no need to play catch-up. With the drop off sys-tem there will be a marker wait-ing for you at the next junction. When you are the marker, wait for ‘Tail End Charlie’ to arrive, even if this takes a long time, as there may be traffic problems further back. After all the other riders have passed, the marker then rejoins the ride in front of the ‘Tail End Charlie’. If you are unsure whether to mark a junc-tion, do it anyway. It is better to mark a junction that doesn’t need marking than not to mark one that does. Ride your own ride, don’t allow yourself to be

pulled or pushed along. Enjoy yourself at your own pace. Please have confidence in the system and under no circum-stances must you rejoin the group before you see the ‘Tail End Charlie’ as it will split the group up. Hopefully we will have plenty of opportunity to practise this.

For those of you that have been able to make the meetings you will be aware that there is to be another bike day ‘On two Wheels’ at the Worthing Festival on Saturday 26 July at Steyne Gardens. It is being organised by Worthing Lions and Royal British Legion Riders Branch and Sussex Wings are pleased to be able to support them in this. There will be bike clubs, custom bikes, trade stalls and a light parade in the eve-ning followed by fireworks.

We have also booked our Wing Ding for 2015 so mark off the 25–28 June, as your Region needs you.

Loads in the pipeline so keep your eye on the newsletter. Which brings me to my final topic of this report. Captain Mark Philips – he kindly did the April WingSpan report for me, which was great. He is also now

doing our Newsletter, which I am certainly enjoying read-ing, especially his exploits in rebuilding the various Wings he keeps buying. What is encour-aging to hear too is that you guys are sending in articles to him, great news and it’s good to find out a little more about you all.

Finally finally, meetings for May and June are cancelled as we have events on.

Trent WingsFor all of the Trent members that attended the GWOCGB thank you very much for sup-porting this great Club of ours. Thanks to Dean and Joanne who welcomed us into their home afterwards for drinks and cakes.

Well the Wing Ding season is finally here and some of our Trent members have already been out and about. This month you have a choice of go-ing to the Yorkshire Spring Ding and FOUR other Wing Dings, whichever ones you choose to go to ride safe and enjoy the weekend. I know I’ve asked

before but could you please let me have a little write-up and maybe even a photograph or two, so that I can put some-thing different into this report. Also, let us know what events you’ll be attending and, you never know, we could even ride to them together.

As you know our Trent meet-ing usually falls on the 4th of the month but in May there are two Wing Dings on that week-end to choose from so therefore we will be having our meeting a week earlier on the 18th May, this one will be a little different as we will be meeting up at the Eagle Tavern, Heage at 10am

and will be going on a ride out. Please try and come along and support our Region.

Also, keep an eye out on your emails and Trent’s website and Facebook page for more up to date details, as remember, this report has to be written a month in advance. For anyone reading this who isn’t on Cheryl’s email list and wants adding please give Cheryl a call (number is in Rep’s section of WingSpan) and she will add you on.

Yorkshire WingsHey UpWell we are finally into the biking season at last. It’s been a long winter this year or so it seems.

I hope everybody has got all their jobs done, i.e. decorat-ing, etc., ready for the months ahead where we say sod the house let’s get on our bikes and ride.

As I write this we will have once again been to Appleyard’s for their open day and hope that it all went well and we have managed to attract a few new members to the Club. I would like to thank Barry and all his helpers on behalf of Yorkshire for making it another great day.

May sees the start of the Wing Ding season and I know things are a bit tight on the money front for all of us but I would hope that members would support their closest Regions, after all a lot of work goes into organising these events and we wouldn’t want to lose them, would we.

We are still trying to organise a fundraising day for our charity but as yet we have not found somewhere to hold it as our dates seem to clash with dates available from the towns we have contacted.

Don’t forget it’s our Spring Ding this weekend from the 2nd to the 5th at Squires Café, we hope we have good weather. Friday is quiet night, Saturday there is a disco and Sunday is race night. Inscription £2 mem-

bers, £3 non-members, free camping for tents if

you eat in Squires at least one meal per day.

Once again we have had our Easter Egg Run to Martin House Children’s Hospice and it was a good turnout from Yorkshire members. These places are brilliant and I know that the families that use them are very grateful that they exist but it costs millions of pounds each year in running costs just to keep them going.

June sees our trip to the

Dordogne area in France, seven bikes and one trike are making the pilgrimage and we are look-ing forward to that.

Well that’s it from me, so take care out there and safe riding.

Reminder: We still want your photos to send with our report.

If you have a Classic, send in your photos with articles about

how it came into your possession and why it

is so special to you.
