Before you begin% start a new estimate by selecting 'ew from the F!le menu

Each item has a formula assigned to it in the "rice book database. This formula a""ears while items are being added tothe estimate. Each )ormula has a set of 3uestions which are used to calculate an item 3uantity. These are calleddimensional -ariables. The first item you selected in the database browser 0ough ra(e 2 D!tches3Swales isnow ready for a takeoff 3uantity. The cursor 0blinking1 is ready for numerical in"ut of dimensional -ariable. $n thiscase% there are > 3uestions to determine the item6s 3uantity# $rea to 0ough ra(e and Pro(uct!on s4y(3(ay.

*alues in the 'abor <nit Price and 'abor ours for that item change in relation to the "roducti-ity change. 2s other'abor columns change% you will want to re-iew those results too. Changes to the E3ui"ment categories follow the same"attern as the labor categories.

Column relationshi"s in WinEst are "redefined% and therefore cannot be tam"ered with or accidentally broken. 2 changemade in one column will always make the a""ro"riate changes in other columns. This ser-es to maintain the o-erallestimate6s cost integrity.

Chang!ng the Column Contents

E!"eriment with changing -alues in the estimate sheet and see how those changes affect the other columns

E-ery 5ob must be analyzed in accordance to the s"ecific factors that affect costs#

• Time of year 

• 'abor market considerations

• Current material "rices

• S"ecific subcontractor bids and so on $t6s e!"ected that you6ll need to change a -ariety of the default -alues. The default -alues that a""ear in the estimatesheet are co"ies of -alues set in the database. 2ny changes you make on the estimate sheet do not affect the original-alues stored in the database unless you re"rice the database from the current estimate by selecting Database ?Manage *tem Database ? >p(ate *tem Pr!ces ? From Current %st!mate

)ilters allow you to -iew your estimate detail in a -ariety of different ways. By allowing you to condition% sort 7 subtotalinformation% you can focus on s"ecific areas of concern.

'ook at the effect the filters ha-e on the estimate Sheet -iew by clicking on F!lters ? More %st!mate F!lters ? Select afilter that you would like to dis"lay and then @A and you are now looking at that "articular estimate filter. Column widthsare ad5ustable. Try ad5usting the width of the columns so that they fit on the screen. When you switch from one filter toanother% the "rogram sa-es the column widths and any other changes that you6-e made to the filter. The CS$% Sectionsand +i-isions summary filters dis"lay a summary of the total costs of the work by CS$ sections andAor di-isions. Thesefilters allow you to 3uickly -iew the distribution of costs across the entire "ro5ect. ou may find these filters easiest to readif you change the widths of the columns to fit in a single screen width.

Custom F!lters

WinEst has the ca"ability to create and customize the filters to dis"lay the estimate s"readsheet according to yourcriteria

ou can edit the s"readsheet in the following manner#

• Select which columns dis"lay

• Select the order that the columns dis"lay• +is"lay data columns as well as cost information

• Select the sort order of the estimate sheet

• )ilter items to dis"lay only certain cost categories

• Change the column header names to your "referred names

• )ormat column s"ecifics such as decimal "oints% currency symbol H etc

• +is"lay detailed or summary information

The )ill +own command co"ies thecontents of the first cell into all of the other selected cells.

#!ew!ng Totals for the %st!mate

 

The Totals "age -iew gi-es you an o-erall summary of your estimate and lets you add marku"s% bonds% and other

e!"enses that don6t fall into the work item categories.

To mo-e to the totals "age% click the Totals "age button on the toolbar. The totals "age -iew a""ears.

The Percent and $mount columns on the left side of the screen show the distribution of the 5ob6s costs. ;n the rightside% the Hours column shows the total hours re3uired to com"lete the 5ob for labor and for e3ui"ment as estimated. $nthe e!am"le abo-e% the Totals "age -iew dis"lays the estimate6s net costs based on the contents of the estimate Sheet -iew% and cannot be changed here. To make any changes% switch back to the Ta"eoff  or Sheet -iew and alter the -aluesof the indi-idual work items to change the totals.

$((!ng Mar"ups

ou can add marku"s to your "ro5ect costs by either adding them as a "ercentage of the net cost or as a lum" sum. Towork with marku"s% click the Edit 8arku"s button on the toolbar. The &et 8arku"s s"readsheet dialog bo! a""ears.
