Fellow Winos,
We firmly believe that you don’t need a ton of cash to drink really awesome wine. We believe that a small amount of wine knowledge can go a long way. But, most importantly, we believe that exploring, learning about and drinking wine is meant to be fun! Hell, it’s alcohol, what’s not to like? Three years ago we founded our company on these beliefs and very quickly we realized we were not alone!
The point of this whole shebang is to learn about wine but have a blast while you do it. Our small, but pas-sionate team works tirelessly to pack this event with some really cool wine producers. Chat with the people pouring because the booths are staffed by winery reps, owners and winemakers who know their vino inside and out.
To help you remember what you drink, our tech team has been hard at work building a brand new iPhone app (and mobile site for you Android folks) to quickly mark every single wine you try at Wine Riot. Take a mobile app Guided Tour, check out the Top Wines and get more info about the wineries. We’ve pre-loaded every single wine, organized by booth, so all you have to do is tap “like it” or “love it” on your phone. Your wines are saved in a list you can easily access tomorrow and forever.
We’ve been selling out Wine Riots in Boston for two years and this is the first US Tour! Los Angeles is our first stop, not only because Second Glass co-founder, Morgan First was born and raised in Brentwood, but because we really love this city and see huge potential! Wine Riot LA is just the beginning. We’ve opened up an office (Olympic and Robertson) and will be bringing you totally bitchin’ wine events, large and small, plus new web content and general wine-awesomeness from now on!
Consider this our launch event for Los Angeles. We’re here to stay and this is only the beginning!

ones they like forever. Seamlessly blending wine with technology, the
goal is for everyone to drink more wine. Wine Riot is the in-person
side with thousands of people coming together to learn about wine
and have a blast at the same time. The mobile app makes sure you
don’t forget a single sip and the website lets you research your
favorite wines before and after the event. What started in Boston is
now on a full US tour with Wine Riots in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago,
New York City and Washington, DC.

WINE RIOT SPONSORS
Second Glass staffers will be giving a 20-minute course on how to best attack the Wine Riot. They will explain the new Second Glass App, built for remembering all of the wines at the Riot (free in the App Store!), introduce the Wine Intelligence Unit members, and show you the general lay of the land. Learn the best way to taste wine so you can teach your friends and go home a hero. This is your chance to hear from the founders and planners of the Riot how to get the most from your experience.
Opening Night @ 7:30pm, Riot 1 @ 1:30pm, Riot 2 @ 7:30pm
Swirling the wine in your
glass adds oxygen and
intensifies the smell of
the wine.
Really get in there for the full aromas. If your nose gets wet, you’re doing a good job!
Move the wine to the different
areas of your tongue and
mouth for the full taste.
In order to taste as many wines as possible, spit into dump bucket. It’s what all the cool kids do!
BALANCE: the harmony between major components in wine (alcohol, acidity, tannin, fruit, etc.).
BODY: the weight of a wine in your mouth. Think light body = skim milk and full body = whole milk.
BLEND: to combine two or more lots of wine to achieve a more flavorful and complex wine greater than the sum of each part. Often these wines contain multiple grapes.
DRY: the opposite of sweet. The less sugar a wine has the drier it is.
FERMENTATION: the process of yeast eating the sugar from crushed grapes. This produces alcohol and carbon dioxide.
FINISH: the flavors left in your mouth after you’ve swallowed (or spit) the wine.
NOSE: how a wine smells.
OAK: many wines are aged in oak barrels. The flavor imparted depends on the kind of oak and length of time in barrel.
OLD WORLD: refers to the wine producing countries in Europe. New World refers to countries that “recently” started making wine like the US, Argentina and Australia.
TANNIN: a gritty, puckering quality (similar to the qualities in tea), usually found in young red wines. It come from grape skins and mellows as a wine ages.
VARIETAL: a fancy word for what type of grape was used.
VINTAGE: the date on the bottle that refers to the year the grapes were harvested.

young entrepreneurs.” They’re backed by a team of amazing full-time staffers and an endless stream of
kickass interns. When you see the team running around the Riot make sure to stop and say ‘hi.’
Countries will converge...again

AMALGAMATION CONVERSATION
Room A at 7:45 / 8:30 / 9:15
Yum + yum = yummier, right? Except when it doesn't. Most wines are a blend of a few different grapes from numerous vineyards. They all have a different texture, flavor and color, so blending these grapes together is truly an art form! Learn about which wines can work together and which wines should never be bed buddies!
Shauna Rosenblum of Rock Wall Wine Company
Born into a California winemaking family, Shauna was learning about wine before she could walk. Now, at 27, she’s the head winemaker at Rock Wall Wine Company, owned and operated by her family. Located right across the San Francisco Bay in Alameda, CA, Shauna makes totally badass wines in a decommissioned Air Force base hanger. rockwallwines.com
Room B at 7:45 / 8:30 / 9:15
South Africa’s wine trade has long been based on its exporting history and location as a pit stop on the way to the East Indies for spices. Come see how this area, rich in culture and history, became a well known and respected wine region as well!
Selena Cuffe of Heritage Link Brands
Selena Cuffe is the President & CEO of Heritage Link Brands. She was a big-whig at Proctor and Gamble, Pringles, and Tampax, but now she imports amazing South African wine from incredibly inspirational people. She is pumped to be at Wine Riot and is ready to drop knowledge about South Africa’s fabulous wines! heritagelinkbrands.com
THE SAUVIGNON BLANC YOU NEVER KNEW presented by Loire Valley Wine BureauRIOT 1: 3:00 / 3:30 / 4:00 RIOT 2: 7:30 / 8:00
When you sit down at a cafe in Paris and order a glass of white wine, you’ll probably get a Sauv Blanc from the Loire Valley. This region is home to the best Sauv Blancs you’ve never heard of and they’re crazy affordable! Taste some awesome wine and learn the lingo that will get you hooked up!Loire Valley Wine Bureau: Charged with promoting Loire Valley wines in the United States, the Loire Valley Wine Bureau is an organization of growers and winemakers from region. This means you get the information directly from the people that make the wine! Meet the expert, flown in from the East Coast, to teach you about these fantastic wines. loirevalleywine.com
RIESLING ROCKS! presented by Dr. LoosenRIOT 1: 2:00 / 2:30 RIOT 2: 8:30 / 9:00 / 9:30
All the cool kids are drinking it. Riesling has been the secret, kickass wine revered by winos because it has this incredible depth of flavor. The grape makes wines that span from bone-dry to super sweet and complex. If you’re not a fan, you need to be. Come taste a slew of awesome wines and get yo’ Riesling on!Dr. Loosen: Located in Germany’s Mosel Valley (central, western Germany) the Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. Primarily producing white wines from the Riesling grape, Dr. Loosen has recently made partnerships with producers in the US Pacific Northwest to collaborate on some really cool wines. drloosen.com
Knowledge will be dropped during free Crash Course Seminars. Courses occur throughout the Riot sessions, dishing in-depth explanations of specific grapes, regions, and growing trends. Rioters can stop in for complimentary guided tastings & head back to the main floor equipped with stellar tips and know-how to help them face any wine list, party or store.
PRICE WHORE NO MORE presented by Cameron HughesRIOT 1: 3:00 / 3:30 / 4:00 RIOT 2: 7:30 / 8:00
Does this wine taste good? How much should it cost? Is it a good value? Join the folks from Cameron Hughes Wine for a blind tasting (you won’t see the labels until the end) of four wines. Take a wild guess at the grape, country, how old it is and the price. We leave it up to you to decide if the most expensive wines are really the best!
Cameron Hughes: They’re a modern day négociant, which means the winery doesn’t grow any grapes. Instead, Cameron flies around the world looking for totally bitchin’ wines, makes deals with the growers and winemakers and boom, creates a wine. This system is as old the industry itself and allows for a broad range of really interesting and awesome wines. chwine.com
WHAT THE HELL IS PINOT MEUNIER? presented by Domaine ChandonRIOT 1: 2:00 / 2:30 RIOT 2: 8:30 / 9:00 / 9:30
Pinot Meunier, a grape used to make traditional Champagne (in France), stood alongside Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for many years as a silent partner. Now it finally gets the spotlight to enjoy the recognition it deserves! Come hear (and definitely taste) what this grape has to say in both sparkling and still form.
Domaine Chandon: The rockstar French Champagne House Moet & Chandon established their Napa Valley outpost, Domaine Chandon in 1973 and began to make traditional Champagne-style sparkling wines in California. Using grapes from Yountville, Mount Veeder and Carneros, Domaine Chandon makes tasty bubbly with a very California feel. chandon.com
